WHO’S WHO THE PERSONALITIES BEHIND BARRETT-JACKSON
RUSS JACKSON, along with Tom Barrett, founded Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car AuctionsTM, in 1971. Jackson, originally from Michigan, relocated to Scottsdale in 1960 with wife Nellie. Jackson’s passion for classic automobiles, especially of the 1930s, led him to a meeting with Barrett, who was selling a 1933 Cadillac V-16 Town Car built for actress Joan Crawford. The sale never took place, but a love of old cars led to the creation of Fiestas de los Auto Elegantes, later named Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction. Jackson died in 1993 of colon cancer. NELLIE JACKSON co-founded BarrettJackson along with her husband Russ, and Tom Barrett and held an executive position with the company since the doors opened in 1971. Her passion for automobiles and her business acumen were a driving force behind Barrett-Jackson’s evolution into the world’s leading collector car auction company. Nellie, matriarch of the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company, served as executive director until her death Feb. 10, 2010. TOM BARRETT, founder of BarrettJackson Collector Car Auction, along with Russ Jackson, launched the first auction in 1971 with vehicles from their private collections. Barrett brought the best and rarest automobiles to the event, earning the reputation of “Grandfather of the Collector Car Industry.” Barrett retired in 1997 and died in 2004. BRIAN JACKSON, son of Russ Jackson, took over the reigns of Barrett-Jackson in 1993, after his father succumbed to cancer. The younger Jackson passed away two years later of the same illness. CRAIG JACKSON, chairman and CEO, assumed control of Barrett-Jackson in 1997. Jackson has shared his family’s passion for automobiles from an early age, learning every aspect of both the collector car and restoration businesses as he climbed the corporate ladder. The result has been numerous Best of Show and First Place trophies, as well as an extensive education on classic car restoration.

he durability and effectiveness of the phenomenon known as “The Barrett-Jackson Experience” is nowhere more evident than with the phenomenal success of the Barrett-Jackson’s Palm Beach auction. From its first Palm Beach event in 2003, the BarrettJackson Collector Car Auction quickly became one of the most important collector car auctions in the country. Its growth has paralleled the rapid expansion of BarrettJackson’s long-established Scottsdale, Ariz., auction, the bellwether of the collector car industry, as well as its venues in Las Vegas and Orange County, Calif. Just looking at pure numbers, the first year sales totaled $5.7 million, putting the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Auction eleventh on the list of top-grossing auctions in 2003. Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach expanded to a three-

day schedule for 2004. The total sales doubled, to $11.5 million, and the sale rate was an outstanding 88 percent. It was the eighth largest sale total in the year. The 2005 Palm Beach auction sales exploded again, nearly doubling the 2004 total with $21.9 million changing hands. That’s as much as was sold at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction only five years before, placing the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Auction as the fifth highest sale total in 2005.
From 2005 forward, the auction has seen thousands of collector cars cross the block including the iconic 1953 Buick Roadmaster, which was formerly owned by Howard Hughes and sold for a world record price of $1.62 million. 2006 followed it up with a $35 million sales total and the unmatched beauty of the 1947 Bentley Mark VI Coachwork by Franay. It sold for $1.72 million and was a record for a post-war Bentley and for any Bentley in North America.
Palm Beach has brought a whole new base of clients and bidders to the BarrettJackson events and the crowds in the auction arena are amazing and enthusiastic. Barrett-Jackson bidders are known to have hearts of gold when it comes to helping those less fortunate too. This was especially evident in 2009 when the “Project American Heroes” 1969 Chevrolet Camaro RS/ SS custom sold for $500,000 to benefit the Armed Forces Foundation. And, BarrettJackson waives all fees and commissions whenever a car crosses the block for charity. The Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Collector Car Event has uniquely positioned itself both as the East Coast extension of the BarrettJackson experience and as an important lifestyle event with consignors, bidders, style and ambience that is unique in itself. Join us April 5-7 to experience it first hand.

here’s only one thing bigger and more astounding than the engines at Barrett-Jackson — the hearts of the bidders and consignors who donate millions of dollars to charity annually. In fact, last year’s 40th anniversary of the BarrettJackson Collector Car Auction set a new record of charitable giving. To date, the legendary auction house has raised more than $46 million for charity, with more than $21 million of that being raised since January 2010. The organizations benefitting from an influx of needed funds touch people from every walk of life. “Our executives, consignors and bidders took altruism to a whole new level in 2011,” said Craig Jackson, BarrettJackson’s chairman and CEO. “Philanthropy is a major component of the BarrettJackson culture, and due to the tremendous generosity of our customers, participants and attendees, we look forward to watching this figure grow for years to come.” Nearly $5.9 million was raised benefitting more than 20 local and national charities when Barrett-Jackson recently kicked off the 2012 automotive calendar in Scottsdale. Among the offerings was a 1964 Ford Fairlane which went for an incredible $700,000 at the 2011 Las Vegas auction, when BarrettJackson’s own Steve Davis donated it. The Fairlane was re-donated and sold again for $1,000,000 at the Scottsdale auction. All proceeds were donated to the Armed Forces Foundation. The second top-selling charity car of Scottsdale was the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette 427 Convertible, which sold for $600,000. An additional $100,000 donation being added to the price of the car

Barrett-Jackson endorsed Insurance makes up the difference. Craig Jackson is an enthusiast who appreciates a variety of collectibles, so he made sure that a wide range of collector vehicles could be covered. For the purposes of the insurance program, “collector cars” are “Classic, antique, exotic, special-interest, or limitedproduction cars that you use in car club activities, exhibitions, parades or for private collection, drive infrequently and store in a fully enclosed, locked garage
(or other secured location) when not in use.” If your collection includes unique vehicles—fire trucks, lowriders, motorcycles, scooters, replicas, kit cars, street rods, tractors, trailers, trucks or vehicles under restoration—there is a single insurance solution. When you consult Schwarzkopf or another professional at TDC Risk Management, your current insurance will be compared against the more specialized programs they have to offer. More importantly, since most car enthusiasts often pay too much for coverage yet remain underinsured, TDC can analyze your needs and put together a proposal that better suits your needs. As Craig Jackson realized, many car collectors also own multiple homes, aircraft, boats, RVs, motorcycles, collectible watches, jewelry, fine art and wine. The Barrett-Jackson endorsed Insurance program can extend to address every aspect of your lifestyle. TDC’s team of advisors can show you how to consolidate all of your personal lines insurance.
