The scope of the project includes public domain elements along Marrickville Road from Victoria Road to Railway Parade and then extending along Railway Parade to Sydenham Railway Station. The project scope also includes public domain elements immediately adjoining the intersections of Marrickville Road with Lower Railway Parade, Buckley Street, Barclay Street, Sydney Street, Gerald Street, Meeks Road and the Fraser Park access road.

The design of the project has been developed in general accordance with the adopted Masterplan. Design development has included consultation with a wide range of public authorities, council representatives and other key stakeholders. This Community Consultation Plan represents the current design of the project, to be used by Inner West Council as the basis of further public exhibition of the project.

New landscaped kerb blisters provided at intersections to improve pedestrian amenity and safety by reducing road crossing distances, while maintaining capacity for semitrailers to turn. Large Eucalyptus Mannifera tree retained, in widened treepit planting area with groundcover planting.
New parking protected bi-directional bicycle path on the 10 southern side of Marrickville Road and Eastern side of Railway Parade, from Sydenham Station to Meeks Road.

Following extensive community engagement and public exhibition of a Draft Masterplan, Inner West Council adopted a Final Masterplan for the Marrickville Road (East) Public Domain Project in September 2018. The project aims to promote active transport between the Marrickville Town Centre and Sydenham Railway Station and deliver a pedestrian and cyclist environment that is safe, pleasant and enjoyable to use.
