Our cover story this issue takes a dispassionate look at one of the troubles still bugging the lithium battery industry — fire and the dangers of thermal runaway. We argue that safety will always be a concern with some types of batteries but, overall, huge progress has been made in lithium safety but the regulations have yet to catch up.
Elsewhere we look at various aspects of life in the energy storage business. We look at the way social media can be used for our marketing efforts, a closer examination of red lead in battery formation, and Pat Moseley continues to discuss the stochiometric aspects of lead dioxide. Plus, a lot more too!
Sadly we also remember the passing of two battery giants — Bill Brecht and Ralph Brodd — Bill was the inventive genius who spent a lifetime in pushing lead technology and engineering further and Ralph, perhaps the single most important in putting lithium square and centre in the US economic drive to create an electric vehicle industry.
