Boohee Nam is a Korean contemporary painter whose artistic journey has been devoted to exploring the human body as a vehicle for emotion, spirituality, and modern expression. Throughout his career, Nam has examined the human form as a timeless subject through which beauty, psychological depth, and existential reflection can be conveyed. His work bridges classical figurative traditions with contemporary experimentation, transforming the body from a representational form into a dynamic metaphor for human experience and modern society
Educated in painting at Chung-Ang University (B F A ) and later completing graduate studies in art education at Konkuk University (M.F.A.), Nam developed both an academic and professional career, serving as a professor of fine art while maintaining an active studio practice. International travel and artistic research in cities such as New York, Paris, and London expanded his visual language, leading to increasingly expressive and semi-abstract approaches characterized by energetic brushwork, layered materials, and experimentation with oil, acrylic, gel, and charcoal. His paintings emphasize movement, tactile surface, and emotional intensity, reflecting contemporary themes of isolation, connection, and transformation.
In recent years, Nam has been working in Vancouver, British Columbia, where the region's natural beauty has become an important source of inspiration The landscapes, atmosphere, and changing light of the West Coast continue to influence his evolving artistic vision, bringing a renewed sense of place and harmony to his work.

A few years ago, my daughter and son-in-law opened a restaurant called Olivo Cafe in an industrial park along the Fraser River
Led by their frequent riverside walks, I took a closer look for the first time Indeed, on the Fraser River, I saw a small motorboat pulling a long raft upstream, tied to a rope
Seeing this young couple's innocence, their immense strength and hope, I immediately began to envision a largescale work based on this scene.

By the time I began the piece, it was the very beginning of spring
The forest was ablaze with pale green, and here and there, dazzling white wild cherry blossoms were growing
Yellow and pink blossoms were in full bloom along the forest paths. Many people, dressed in fresh, bright attire, strolled through the surrounding landscape, savoring the beauty.
And from a long observation deck built into the river above the reed bed, I could see the entire expanse of the Fraser River.
Under the warm, blue sky, and the large, white clouds that spread out, the river water reflected even more blue, and the orange rafts scattered across the river contrasted with it, creating a striking scene.
To the east, in the distance, in the endless forest upstream, the majesty of snow-capped Mount Baker loomed in the haze, revealing a fantastical spectacle
I tried to express these most impressive scenes so that they stand out at a glance as the subject of the work, and I slightly shifted the positions of the trees along the park's forest path to create a sense of depth and variety In particular, I placed a young couple at the bottom of the screen, standing hand-hand on a riverbank, gazing at a boat towing a raft. I hope ey will be able to achieve their dreams and hopes with the me vigor.

Killarney’s Zumba® For A Cure comes to the Killarney Community Centre on Saturday, April 18th, 2026, and this year’s event is all about heart, healing, and community. Held in the gymnasium at 6260 Killarney Street in Vancouver, BC, this powerful day brings people together to move with purpose and honour the loved ones who shape our lives With three uplifting one hour Zumba® sessions led by some of Vancouver’s most inspiring instructors, the room will be filled with energy, joy, and the shared strength of everyone dancing beside you When registering, please choose which of the three sessions you’d like to dance in
Cancer touches every family, every neighbourhood, every community. Behind every participant is a storyof courage, of loss, of survival, of love. This year, we’re opening space for those stories to be heard. We invite you to share your cancer journey or tell us who you’ll be dancing for. Selected stories will be featured on our social media to honour your voice and remind others that they are not alone. Your story may be the one that lifts someone else up.
Registration is $45, which includes a limited edition event T shirt featuring an extraordinary Augmented Reality artwork by artist Tarcila Neves. For this year’s Killarney’s Zumba® for a Cure, I wanted to create a piece that didn’t just represent survival, but embodied triumph. The result is "Invicta" - Latin for "unconquered woman " This 20"x12" mixed media piece captures the spirit of a warrior who has risen from the battle of cancer not diminished, but stronger and more radiant
The artwork depicts a woman immersed in the joy of Zumba® She is wrapped in a vibrant pink ribbon, traditionally a symbol of the battle against breast cancer However, in "Invicta," this ribbon is transformed It is no longer a mark of struggle, but a personal crown of strength, swirling around her as she moves with rhythm, purpose, and joy. To bring this vision to life on canvas, I utilized a unique combination of materials including reclaimed cosmetics, gold, and chameleon metallic paints. These elements give the physical piece a shimmering, shifting quality that changes with the light, mirroring the dynamic nature of the human spirit.
Beyond the Canvas: Augmented Reality and Audio
While the physical painting captures a single moment of triumph, the story continues in the digital realm. "Invicta" is designed as a fully interactive Augmented Reality (AR) experience. By scanning the artwork (or the event T-shirt) with a smartphone, viewers can unlock hidden digital layers that bring the dancer to life.
The AR component activates a custom animation where the pink ribbons unfurl and dance around the figure in 3D space, breaking the boundaries of the frame This visual spectacle is paired with an immersive audio component - the rhythmic beat of Zumba® music blended with an empowering narrative

Integrating AR is about more than just spectacle; it is a tool for deeper community engagement and accessibility. Traditional art can sometimes feel static or distant, but AR invites the viewer to participate It allows those who may not be able to attend the event physically, or who experience art differently, to engage with the message in a multi-sensory way
Whether viewed on the original canvas at the auction or on the event T-shirts worn by hundreds of participants, the AR technology ensures the message of "Invicta" travels further
A Personal Mission
This creation is deeply rooted in my personal history I lost my father to a rare form of cancer, a loss that has profoundly shaped my art and my purpose I firmly believe that if there were more financial resources dedicated to research and specialized support, people like my father would still be alive today
This belief drives my commitment to this event. "Invicta" is not just a celebration of those who survived; it is a fight for those we’ve lost and a push for the future. We raise funds because financial support is the difference between loss and life. All proceeds from the auction will directly support programs for cancer survivors - so they may continue to dance through life, unconquered.

Our story with Orangetheory Fitness began long before the doors of River District ever opened. We first crossed paths as members at Orangetheory South Surrey, drawn - like so many others - by the energy in the room, the supportive community, and the way the workouts quickly made us feel stronger. Orangetheory’s unique blend of strength, cardio, and coaching had a life-changing impact on us, and soon a dream started to form: what if we brought this feeling to a brand-new neighbourhood?

That dream became Orangetheory Fitness River District. In early 2020, before a single wall of the studio existed, we set up a simple table in the community and began pre-sales. We still smile thinking about those early days - two guys with a vision, a lot of hustle, and a belief that this neighbourhood would embrace something special Many of the people who signed up back then are still with us today They’re our Founding Members, and they remain the heart and history of our studio
Then the world shifted The pandemic brought closures, uncertainty, and challenges we never imagined when we started this journey But through it all, our team and our members showed extraordinary resilience We adapted, we learned, and we stayed connected Surviving those years wasn’t just about keeping a business running - it was about keeping a community together
Two of our original coaches are still part of our team, reminding us daily of how far we’ve come. With Dave’s background in Sports Marketing and Stephen’s experience in the transportation industry, we brought different strengths to the business - sales and operations - but shared one passion: helping people feel healthier, stronger, and more confident.
Last year, on October 10, 2025, we celebrated our 5th anniversary. Five years of growth, perseverance, joy, and community. Five years of people showing up not just for the workout, but for each other.

For many local business owners, Spring is when the calendar begins to fill again. Clients return. Staff settle back into routine. The pace starts to build. That makes this time of year a useful checkpoint, not for setting new goals, but for noticing what is already pulling on you.
If this year is starting to feel a lot like last year, it is worth paying attention. The same long days. The same decisions landing on your desk. The same pressure to stay involved in everything just to keep things moving.

These challenges are common and they usually do not come from lack of effort. They come from unclear roles, unclear priorities, and too much resting on the owner.
When structure is missing, owners fill the gaps with their own time. The business keeps running, but it never really lets go. Sound familiar? The first quarter of the year is still early enough to change that. Choose one area to tighten. One task to step out of. One decision that protects your time instead of consuming it.

Meet Gizmo & Onyx –River District’s Favourite Sibling Duo
Gizmo and Onyx are a loveable brother-and-sister duo, both four years old and full of charm, quirks, and personality. Wherever they go, they attract attention - not just for their adorable looks, but for their joyful energy and unique backstory.
Gizmo was named after the lovable character from the movie Gremlins, and just like his namesake, he’s sweet, curious, and sometimes a little mischievous. Onyx, on the other hand, was named after the Pokémon - thanks to the striking black patch over her right eye that makes her truly one of a kind.
These two are a rare and special mix: half Border Collie, onequarter Corgi, and one-quarter Blue Heeler Naturally, that means they’ve inherited a perfect blend of intelligence, energy, and a whole lot of cuteness.
Gizmo has more Corgi traits - he’s got a rounder build, short legs, and a big love for lounging He’s the relaxed one of the pair, happiest when curled up on the couch for a good nap He absolutely lives for squeaky toys and will happily spend hours playing with them.
Onyx, meanwhile, has the tall, athletic stance and high energy of a Border Collie She’s playful, social, and always on the go Her favourite activity is playing fetch with frisbees, and she never misses an opportunity to say hi to people she meets along the way. If you pet her just right, you might even get a signature butt wiggle!
Both Gizmo and Onyx are serious treat-lovers and especially look forward to visiting their friends at Bosley’s for some welldeserved snacks
They’re proud residents of River District and love how dogfriendly the neighbourhood is From Day of the Dog, Bosley’s Haunted House, Trick-or-Treating for dogs and other pupfocused events, there’s always something exciting happening It’s the perfect place for two social, fun-loving dogs to call home
Whether they’re lounging at home or making new friends around the community, Gizmo and Onyx are living their best lives - and stealing hearts wherever they go
