RIVERCENTER INC. & the Cultural Economy: Aside from providing great entertainment, performance space, and support services for several area arts organizations, RiverCenter plays an important role in our local economy. As calculated by the Americans for the Arts Economic Impact Calculator based upon an annual budget of $2,760,000, RiverCenter activities result in more than $4.5 million in economic activity. This supports 153 full-time equivalent jobs and represents over $3.5 million in local household income. RIVERCENTER INC. & Tourism: RiverCenter supports conferences, meetings, productions, and other programs that attract tourists to our community for multiple days. Those visitors dine in area restaurants and support other retail businesses in the county during their visit. The entire local economy wins. Since our performing arts center attracts tourists to the city, stands as a symbol of high culture, improves the community's quality of life, and aids businesses when attracting talent to the region, RiverCenter receives a subsidy from the hotel/motel tax. The revenue is derived from taxes paid by visitors staying in area hotels or motels located within Muscogee County. These funds are exclusively dedicated to the maintenance, utilities, and upgrades necessary to keep the facility competitive and attractive for the city. Area residents do not fund this tax but they reap the benefits of having their very own performing arts center in Columbus. RIVERCENTER INC. & the Next Generation: RiverCenter provides extensive educational programming, both in and outside of RiverCenter, for area K-12 public schools. Activities include teacher workshops, study aids, pre- and post-visit lesson plans, subsidized tickets and transportation to low income schools, and access to the arts for over 20,000 students. RIVERCENTER INC. & Facility Partners: Through significant in-kind contributions RiverCenter supports the activities and performances of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and the Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus. Both are resident companies within the Center. ln addition, RiverCenter's south wing is home to the Schwob School of Music. Through this collaboration both organizations serve the community in uniquely different ways that would ordinarily not be possible. This synergy brings the university and our nonprofit together to create vibrancy and variety in Uptown.

FROM THE DIRECTOR Welcome to the 2018-19 RiverCenter Season! As we begin another year of bringing world-class artists and professional theatre to Columbus and the surrounding region, we are especially excited to be welcoming the production company for Something Rotten! as they prepare for their 32week national tour. EmiSunshine, a newcomer on the Americana/Country Music scene, is winning hearts and the respect of audiences and critics alike. She is a fireball of energy with a spunky charm that delights audiences. Jazz great Branford Marsalis and his quartet will grace our stage with his distinctive style that garners Norman S. Easterbrook worldwide acclaim. Classic Broadway lovers Executive Director will thrill to The Wizard of Oz, The King and I, and Finding Neverland, while those who follow contemporary trends on Broadway will find a place in our season with Kinky Boots, Jersey Boys and Rock of Ages. And don’t forget to check out our new 6:40 Series of free short talks and lectures before many of our programs! We are also pleased to announce the addition of sensory-friendly programming for the public performance of The Magic School Bus: Lost In The Solar System and other school-time programs in The Discovery Series. This year, we continue reaching beyond the walls of RiverCenter with free programming including a three-day residency by the incredible dancers of Ballet Hispánico and the mesmerizing, grand outdoor spectacle of Squonk Opera. The launch of the national tour of Something Rotten! will be felt by many in our community as the cast’s consumption of hotel room nights, food and beverage, transportation services, and materials during their two-week rehearsal period will provide significant economic impact to Columbus, supporting local retailers and area jobs. There is a lot going on, and we cannot offer this exciting programming without your support through your ticket purchase. When she isn’t acting she’s singing, baking, flying trapeze, writing, or telling jokes. Love and thanks to her family, Rob, Nicki, the Shrubs, Larry, TheaterWorksUSA, and every dog she’s ever met. @casadilla67 SERGIO CASTILLO (Homer) is an actor, writer, director, and producer for both theatre and film. Originally from California, Sergio has been seen in many productions on both coasts. He has also starred in several films and has directed six of them. MFA: Actor’s Studio; BA: UCLA. AEA & SAG-AFTRA. CLAY WESTMAN (Templeton) has recently performed in Twelfth Night (Sebastian) with Stages on the Sound, Guy Walks into a Bar (Joe) during the Irish Theatre Festival, SubUrbia (Pony) with 5th Floor Theatre Co, and the filming of The Last Cyclist (Pavel) at La Mama. A student of Larry Singer and Doriane Elliott, Clay is also a graduate of Muhlenberg College, and an Alum of the Accademia Dell'Arte in Italy. He longs to one day perform in Shakespeare in the Park. MATTHEW DWIGHT LINCOLN (Wilbur) is an New York-based actor and artist. He is excited to join TheaterWorksUSA and his talented cast in the telling of this special story. A big thank you to his favorite teacher, his mom! Graduate of Marymount Manhattan. Fun fact: Scientists believe that pigs have dreams, just like humans do! BYRON F. ABENS (Stage Manager) has stage managed many touring productions with Theatreworks, including The Lightning Thief, Click Clack Moo, and Seussical. He has worked with a number of companies both Off-Broadway and regionally. Byron holds an M.F.A. from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and is a proud

member of Equity since 2004. ANDREW RASMUSSEN (Design & Direction) is a New York-based creative director, designer and dramaturg. His work has been seen Off-Broadway, Berkeley Rep, A.R.T./American Repertory Theatre, and internationally across Europe and Asia, including original productions of: The Wild Party, RENT, The Rocky Horror Show Live, She Loves Me, and When a Man Loves a Diva. Recent adventures include Theatreworks USA’s national tour of Pete the Cat, the Off-Broadway production of Mrs. Smith’s Broadway Cat-tacular! (hailed as “Purrfect!” by NY POST). He was the Associate/Resident Director for Joseph/Dreamcoat (Tokyo), SIDDHARTHA (Milan), China Goes Pop! (Beijing), and the pre-Broadway premiere of The Honeymooners at Paper Mill Playhouse. www. AndrewRasmussen.com BRYAN BLASKIE (Music Director) is a composer and music director from Columbus, Ohio. As a composer, Bryan received the 2017 ASCAP Foundation Max Dreyfus Scholarship and the Arthur Judson Prize in Music. His musical Assistants was named Best Full-Length World-Premiere Musical and won 3rd Place in New Musical Inc.’s Search for New Musicals. His music direction for Boy From Oz earned him an Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award, a Stage Raw Award, and an Ovation Award Nomination for Best Musical Direction. He is the music director for the bi-coastal cabaret Daisy & Jordan’s Brunch of Shame featuring Jordan Kai Burnett and Tony Award winner Daisy Eagan. Bryan is a graduate of NYU’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program. JOSEPH ROBINETTE (Playwright) is a Tony Award nominee and Drama Desk Award nominee for the libretto of the acclaimed A Christmas Story, The Musical. He is the author or co-author of 55 published plays and musicals. His works have been produced at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, The Theater at Madison Square Garden and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City, the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle, the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, the BBC in Britain, in all 50 states and in 21 foreign countries. Twelve of his works have been translated into foreign languages, and another five have been antholo17

gized. Robinette collaborated with E.B. White on the authorized stage version of Charlotte's Web, and he wrote the musical version with Charles Strouse (Annie and Bye, Bye, Birdie). Other dramatizations include The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Anne of Green Gables and Debbie Macomber's A Gift to Last and The Inn at Rose Harbor. He is the recipient of the American Alliance for Theatre and Education's Distinguished Play Award for Sarah, Plain and Tall and the Children's Theatre Foundation of America medallion for his "body of dramatic works for family audiences in the United States and beyond." ACTORS’ EQUITY ASSOCIATION, founded in 1913, represents more than 45,000 actors and stage managers in the U.S. Equity negotiates wages and working conditions, providing a wide range of benefits, including health and pension plans. Chip combines the dynamics of musical mastery and technical wizardry to create a style often described as “18th Century Rock-n-Roll.” He named the band Mannheim Steamroller for the 18th century musical technique that we know today as the crescendo. CONDUCTOR William Bullock, conductor, brings fifty years of conducting and administrative experience to his work with Cantus Columbus. In 2000 he retired as professor emeritus from Columbus State University’s Schwob School of Music, where he had served as coordinator of music studies and director of choral activities. Previously he held similar positions at the University of Southern Mississippi and Tarrant County College (Fort Worth). His BME, MM and Ph.D. degrees are from Florida State University. He recently retired as Executive Director of RiverCenter for the Performing Arts. Bill has conducted and adjudicated choruses in seven south and southwestern states, conducted concert tours of Mexico and Eastern and Western Europe, and led study tours of Scandinavia and Australia. He has participated in international choral conferences in Vienna, Sydney, and Vancouver, founded the Six Flags over Texas Choral Festival, and served as Mississippi state president of the American Choral Directors Association, executive director of Southeastern Music Center, and choirmaster for Methodist and Episcopal churches. A choral literature authority, Bill has published journal articles, musical editions and arrangements, a book on the cantatas of J. S. Bach, and a well-received edition of the Brahms Requiem that includes his own modern, prosodic translation. A recipient of several awards, he is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Kappa Phi, and various professional organizations (including the American Choral Directors Association) and is listed in biographical publications, including The New International Who’s Who in Music. 52

CANTUS COLUMBUS

Cantus Columbus, a professional chorus, was founded in 2000 by Dr. William J. Bullock. It presented its inaugural concert in the spring of that year at the Springer Opera House and that December inaugurated its annual series of Christmas concerts at Columbus’ Saint Luke United Methodist Church. The concerts of its subsequent seasons have been performed at RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, one each in Studio Theatre and Bill Heard Theatre, the rest in Legacy Hall. The group has occasionally performed run-out concerts in LaGrange and Savannah. Made up of singers from Columbus and the surrounding areas, the chorus is proud of its performance standards and the quality and variety of its literature. Its annual Christmas concert, A Cantus Christmas, which draws sell-out crowds, recounts the Christmas story with music of master composers and familiar audience carols. Frequently the chorus also presents a spring concert. Except for one program of Psalm settings performed at First Baptist Church of Columbus, these concerts have presented lighter works in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. Recent spring programs have been joint presentations with the Vega Quartet and have featured arrangements of the music of Cole Porter, Rodgers & Hart, George & Ira Gershwin, and Jerome Kern and a diversity of “serenades” by a variety of composers. Now a resident performing ensemble at RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, the chorus is supported by grants, contributions, concert sponsors, and ticket sales. The group rehearses in Columbus at the Schwob School of Music and at St. Thomas Episcopal Church and First Baptist Church. AXIOM BRASS QUINTET The Axiom Brass Quintet has quickly established itself as “one of the major art music groups in brass chamber music” and has been praised for its “high level of musicality and technical ability.” The ensemble’s members are Dorival Puccini, Jr, trumpet and manager; Michael Hawes, trumpet; Matthew Bronstein, horn; Corey Sansolo, trombone; Kevin Harrison, tuba. The group is the only brass quintet in 27 years to win the prestigious Chamber Music Yellow Springs Competition (2012) and the only American ensemble to win the Preis der Europa-Stadt Passau in Germany (2012). It has won other contests as well, including the 2008 International Chamber Brass Competition. Internationally recognized for its groundbreaking programming, the Axiom Brass Quintet performs not only standard brass quintet repertoire, but also original works for brass quintet, jazz and Latin music, and transcriptions of string quartet compositions. The quintet’s performances have captured the hearts and imaginations of audiences, leading to appearances by the ensemble on national radio and television and to appearances and concerts in Asia, Europe and across the U.S. Highlights of quintet’s past seasons include concerts in the Dominican Republic, Germany, Portugal, Spain, China, South Korea and Japan; a four-week residency at the Grand Tetons Music Festival; release of the ensemble’s début album New Standards, clinics and performances at the 2010, 2012 and 2015 Midwest Clinic, New York débuts at Symphony Space and Merkin Hall, and master classes at The Juilliard School and Manhattan School of Music. The Axiom Brass Quintet is dedicated to enhancing the musical life of communities across the globe and educating the next generation of musicians. It has presented master classes with orchestras and bands around the U.S. This season the quintet continues its rigorous touring schedule across the United States and undertakes a return tour of the Dominican Republic. It also will collaborate with the professional chorus Cantus Columbus (Columbus, Georgia) on that group’s nineteenth annual Christmas concert, Message of the Season—Music of the Masters.

ORGANIST Aesook Moon, organist, received her undergraduate degree in organ performance from the Seoul Presbyterian Seminary and a master’s degree from Hanyang University in Seoul, Korea. She earned a second master’s degree in organ performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. In 2006 she received the doctor of musical arts degree in organ performance from the University of North Texas. While in Texas she won first place and the best hymn playing award in the William C. Hall Organ Competition. Currently Aesook serves as associate organist-choirmaster at Trinity Episcopal Church in Columbus. She also is a collaborative pianist in Columbus State University’s Schwob School 54

of Music, a position she has held since 2009. In this position she accompanies voice and instrumental students and the University Singers. Prior to coming to Columbus, Aesook was an adjunct organ instructor at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and served as organist for First-Centenary United Methodist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee. More recently she has served as organist at First United Methodist Church, Dothan, Alabama, and as pianist-organist at St. Luke United Methodist Church, Columbus. During her career she has presented many solo organ recitals and accompanied several choirs. Aesook lives in Midland, Georgia with her husband and two sons.

PIANIST Janie Lee Bullock, pianist, received the BME degree from Florida State University and the MM degree in piano performance with emphasis in accompanying from the University of Southern Mississippi, where she collaborated in many vocal and instrumental chamber music programs and musical theater performances. She has done extensive choral accompanying and has been pianist/organist for several choral concert tours throughout Eastern and Western Europe with the Columbus Civic Chorale and with the Young Presbyterian Singers. She is a collaborative pianist at CSUâ€™s Schwob School of Music, where she plays recitals, juries, competitions, master classes and auditions. Ian 2007 Janie Lee accompanied the national winner of the MTNA Young Artists vocal competition in Toronto, Canada, and in 2008 accompanied the national finalist at the MTNA conference in Denver, Colorado. She has served as a church musician in Methodist and Episcopal churches for more than thirty years and has been the organist at First Baptist Church of Columbus since 2003. She is also active in musical theater, having been music director and pianist for Broadway shows in Texas, Mississippi, and Georgia. Currently, she is principle pianist with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and has been pianist for Cantus Columbus since the groupâ€™s founding.
