ACT 1

SYNOPSIS

A couple of local soldiers from Messina are back home from war and the papers are full of news with their successes and promotions. One of the soldiers, Benedick, finds his way back to his favorite watering hole, owned by his dear friend Leonato. Beatrice, having heard the men are back, comes to Leonato to hear more of the news and is surprised to see Benedick there. The air becomes thick with the couples’ charged exchanges and it quickly becomes clear that the two have a history together. Claudio, a young decorated war hero and Benedick's new friend, becomes instantly smitten with Leonato’s shy and silent daughter, Hero. Claudio appeals to Don Pedro, the "Prince," for help in wooing Hero. Don Pedro devises a plan to help Claudio win Hero’s hand by pretending to be Claudio later that night at a costume party. Don John, the bitter illegitimate half-brother of Don Pedro, and his associate, Borachio, hearing of this, hatch a plan to undo Don Pedro and prevent the match. Don John appears at the costume party and approaches Claudio who is in disguise as Benedick, delivering some disturbing, albeit false, news involving Hero and Don Pedro. Ensnared by Don John’s false words against Hero, Claudio sinks into foul humor, casting her off. Meanwhile, Beatrice and Benedick continue their sparring and declare publicly their vows never to be wed. Leonato vows to set up Beatrice and Benedick with the help of the others. Later that night, Don John shares fears that his plot to come between Claudio and Hero has failed, but Borachio swears he can fix it by planting Claudio outside Hero's bedroom window so he will see Borachio woo Margaret while she is dressed as Hero. The act finishes with Leonato, Don Pedro, Ursula and Hero laying the trap to ensnare Beatrice and Benedick.

ACT 2

The act begins with Dogberry and the watch. Dogberry lays out how they must enforce the law and stand watch over Hero's window since there might be some mischief later in the night. Just as Dogberry departs, Borachio and Conrade appear conversing about the funny fashion of the times and how Boracchio successfully managed to deceive Claudio into thinking Hero had relations with another man the night before their wedding. The watchman overhears this confession and arrests Borachio. Meanwhile, at the Church, Claudio accuses Hero at the altar, humiliating and publicly shaming her. The wedding is cancelled and Leonato, distraught to hear the kind of woman Hero is, harshly denounces his daughter. The Friar (with the help of Beatrice and Benedick) hatches a plan to fake Hero’s death while they try to restore her honor. Beatrice explains to a now smitten and somewhat reformed Benedick the harm that has been done through Claudio’s slander. Beatrice demands that Benedick kill Claudio. Benedick, with much regret, promises to challenge Claudio. Benedick meets up with Claudio and Don Pedro and presents him with a challenge. Thinking that Benedick is joking, the challenge is not met and instead the two viciously tease Benedick about his love for Beatrice. With his manhood injured, Benedick leaves them. Meanwhile, Dogberry brings Borachio to confess to Don Pedro and Leonato. Claudio, upon hearing the truth, promises to make amends to Leonato by marrying Leonato’s niece, who supposedly looks identical to Hero. Meanwhile, Benedick musters up the courage to ask Leonato for Beatrice's hand in marriage. Leonato gladly accepts. Claudio goes to Hero’s monument, where he gives a testament and restores Hero’s honor. Claudio goes to the church to marry Hero's identical cousin, only to learn that his bride is in fact Hero and she still lives. Benedick and Beatrice come together at the end of Hero and Claudio's marriage and publicly declare their love for each other with the help of Leonato. Benedick, to save face, asks Don Pedro not to remind him of his prior words on marriage.

Lincoln is also a writer and independent filmmaker. He has made four documentaries, one of which, Speak Easy, won the 2010 LA Film Awards. He is an immigrant from the UK and incredibly proud to be an American Citizen. JAMES LAVENDER (Leonato, Company) trained at Rose Bruford College of Theatre & Performance in Kent, UK. He has appeared in many Aquila Theatre performances, including: The Tempest & Wuthering Heights (2014-15); A Female Philoctetes (2014); Twelfth Night & Fahrenheit 451 (2013-14); The Importance of Being Earnest & Macbeth (2011-12); As You Like It & An Enemy of the People (2010). PALMYRA MATTNER (Beatrice, Company) is a Syrian/German graduate from the conservatory program at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting. She grew up on the Middle Eastern island of Bahrain where she made her first foray into the world of acting by participating in local theatre. Having played parts from ‘Mary Adams’ in Amanda Whittington’s Be My Baby, to ‘Penelope Toop’ in Philip King’s See How They Run, she received a diverse taste of roles under her belt. During her time in New York, Palmyra has expanded her acting portfolio to include: ‘Beatrice’ in Much Ado About Nothing, ‘Ranevskaya’ in The Cherry Orchard, ‘Zinaida’

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING in Ivanov, ‘The Captain’ in Commedia Extravaganza, ‘Little Stone’ in Euridyce, as well as multiple roles in The Winter’s Tale. She has also had the opportunity to perform self-written pieces with the Stella Adler Studio’s Outreach at the Phoenix House, as well as originating the role of ‘Mother’ in Fay Simpson’s adaptation of Raymond Carver’s Scotty. DESIREE SANCHEZ (Director/Adaptor) directed and adapted Aquila’s 2015/ 2016 productions of Romeo and Juliet, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Philoctetes. Past productions she has directed and adapted include: The Tempest and Wuthering Heights for the 2014/2015 season, Twelfth Night and Fahrenheit 451 for the 2013/2014 season, A Female Philoctetes at BAM Fisher’s Hillman Studio, The Taming of the Shrew and Cyrano de Bergerac for the 2012/2013 season, Herakles at BAM in March 2013 and the Festival of the Aegean in Syros, Greece and the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation in Athens in July, 2012, Macbeth and The Importance of Being Earnest for the 2011/2012 season, and Six Characters in Search of an Author for the 2010/2011 season; created movement for Aquila’s A Very Naughty Greek Play (Aristophanes’ Wasps), Catch-22, Julius Caesar, The Iliad: Book One, and The Comedy of Errors; performed in The Iliad: Book One at the Festival of the Aegean in Syros, Greece; and was the lead teaching artist for Aquila’s Shakespeare Leaders program in Harlem. Desiree had a twenty-year dancing career including working as a principal dancer for the Metropolitan Opera Ballet where she worked under the direction of numerous directors and choreographers including Francesca Zambello, Mark Lamos, Doug Varone, John Dexter, Franco Zeffirelli, Julie Taymor and Andrei Konchalovsky. Other companies and choreographers she has worked with include the Boston Ballet, Neo Labos Dancetheatre, Donald Byrd/The Group, Sean Curran, Gelsey Kirkland, Bill T. Jones, Heidi Latsky, Eun Me Ahn in Korea, and Robert La Fosse. She performed for the Papermill Playhouse as a featured dancer in the musicals Carousel and The King and I. She has also taught at Long Island University as a visiting associate professor of dance, and has a Certificate of Movement Therapy from The New School. PETER MEINECK (Lighting Designer) founded Aquila Theatre in 1991 and worked extensively in theater in London, New York and throughout Europe. He has produced and/ or directed more than 50 professional productions of classic drama and has lit many of Aquila’s shows. Favorites include: Iliad (1999), Cyrano (2001), Catch-22 (2009), Macbeth (2011), Fahrenheit 451 (2013). He is currently Professor of Classics in the Modern World at New York University where he specializes in ancient performance and the application of cognitive science to the study of the ancient world. Peter has published widely on ancient drama and culture including several volumes of translations of ancient plays with Hackett Publishing. He is also Honorary Professor of Humanities at the University of Nottingham. He is a graduate of University College London (BA hons. Ancient World Studies) and the University of Nottingham (PhD Classics). Peter also serves as a Firefighter Captain and EMT in Westchester, NY. JAMES MCDANIEL (Costume Designer) is grateful to be returning to Aquila for the 2016-17 Season after having designed the Capulet parachute dress for Aquila’s 2015-16 production 19

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING of Romeo & Juliet. James is currently the Assistant Costumer at Syracuse Stage and the Costume Coordinator for Syracuse University. James has a Master of Fine Arts in Costume Design and Technology from The University of Houston and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre from the University of Oklahoma. At The University of Houston, he designed Our Lady of 121st Street, Mother Courage and Her Children, The Philadelphia Story, The Narrator and Brick Wall. Other Houston designs include MacBeth for Stark Naked Theatre Company and Tea and Sympathy for Back Porch Players. James has also designed costumes for two full-length modern dance productions, Regifting Lions, choreographed by Toni Valle and Catalina Molnari, and Shifting Spaces, choreographed by Theresa Chapman and featuring the artwork of artist Lucinda Cobley.

ALEX DUNCKER (Assistant Stage Manager) is originally from Jackson Hole, WY, and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Technical Theatre from the University of Vermont. Now based out of New York as a Stage Manager and freelance Sound Designer, Alex is thrilled to join the Aquila Theatre team to continue her career of innovative theatre-making. Her most recent endeavors include Sound Designer for Iron Crow Theatre Company in Baltimore and her fourth consecutive year as Production Stage Manager and Technician for the Jackson Hole Playhouse. In addition to her professional career, Alex also created, wrote, and directed a devised theatre project titled Pregnant with Famous that she plans to continue working on in the future and served as a Student Ambassador for the Global Art Corps.

ROBERT ROGERS (Technical Director) has been involved in Technical Theatre for over ten years and served as Technical Director for Aquila’s 2016 Spring and 2014-15 Tour Seasons. His most recent endeavors include Production Manager/ Technical Director for Penobscot Theatre and Technical Director for Gretna Theatre. He has also been everything from Assistant Tent Boss for the Zerbini Circus to a Chief Pilot of Maintenance at a $2.5 million dollar helium balloon in Tennessee. Additionally, Bob spent time in Qinhuangdao, China, where he was the Technical Director for an international cooperation project for the theme park show: Snow White’s Birthday Adventure!

Aquila Theatre’s mission is to make classical works accessible to the greatest number and is now celebrating its 25th Anniversary. A play becomes ‘classical’ because we recognize that after a time it transcends the original culture it was created for. It retains the power to provoke the central question of what it means to be human. THOMAS P. SWETZ (Production Manager) holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theater Arts – Performance Option from Western Connecticut State University. Tom’s training is varied from Stage Combat to Voice, Acting to Technical Direction. For the last 24 years, Tom has owned a dance studio in Lagrangeville, NY with his wife, Jacqueline. He is a proud member of the New York State Theater Educators Association (NYSTEA); the Society of American Fight Directors (SAFD), where he is a certified Combatant in Single Sword, Broadsword and Shield; and, the Society of American Magicians (SAM). He has worked on the NBC series Mercy, the Harrison Ford movie, Morning Glory, and the Showtime series, The Big C. Tom spent three years performing for Hersheypark, with his last year in a show he wrote, produced, directed and performed. Tom is also the Scenic Designer/Technical Director at Arlington High School in Lagrangeville, NY. He has been a professional magician for 35 years. For more info please see www.redmagik.com. DANA GAL (Company Stage Manager) hails from the Midwest. After earning a Bachelor of Arts from Arizona State University and doing her stage management fellowship at American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, she continued to work in the Bay Area and various summer stocks on the east coast. Since moving to New York a few years ago, she has been working with Third Rail Projects on their hit productions Then She Fell and The Grand Paradise. Dana is thrilled to work with Aquila Theatre Company on her first tour. ALEXA HAYNES (Costume Technician) is a recent graduate of WCSU. Her credits include costume designing WCSU’s Under the Lid and The Snow Queen, as well as being the assistant to the designer for WCSU’s Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. 20

TAJ EXPRESS: THE BOLLYWOOD MUSICAL A young aspiring Indian composer, Shankar, is given his first big break in the film business, to create the music for a brand new Bollywood movie, Taj Express. Music is the key factor in the success of a Bollywood movie. Shankar dreams of writing a song as successful as A.R. Rahman’s Oscar winning smash hit Jai Ho in the movie Slumdog Millionaire. ‘Jai Ho’ means “Be victorious”, and writing the music for the movie Taj Express is Shankar’s big opportunity to claim his own victory.

MOHSIN SHAIKH (Male Dance Performer) Mohsin is the definition of raw dancing talent. His body can send chills to the audience, his dance moves can leave the audience taken aback.

Shankar invites the audience into his studio and his creative world, to share the secrets of how this Bollywood movie is made. He takes the audience through the script, page by page, making the music for each character and event in this roller-coaster romance. He must write music for passionate dance numbers, thrilling fight scenes, dramatic car crashes and high energy celebrity parties in the first act. Then he must create the score for the stunning landscape of a train journey, ritualistic dances, festival celebrations and some dramatic revelations in the second act.

RAHUL SONAWANE (Male Dance Performer) Rahul was a part of India’s first ever Hip-Hop crew which was also the finalist of “India’s Got Talent Season 1”. With a personal fascination for Hip-Hop and being from a family that loves Bollywood, he is well trained in Hip-Hop and Bollywood and has been dancing for the past 13 years. He also has an avid interest in music and plans to get into sound engineering and music production in the future.

ASHISH GAKWAD (Male Dance Performer) Ashish is a professionally trained Bollywood, Contemporary, Hip-Hop performer. He is also good at Kalaripayatu- a martial arts style originating from South India.

MIKHAIL SEN (Narrator) Mikhail is an actor trained at Drama Centre, London and The Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute, Moscow. He has worked across film, television and theatre with well known directors such as Derek Bond, Daniele Bartolini, Mahesh Dattani, Anna - Helena McLean and Kussum Haider, among others. His body of work also involves collaborative productions with companies like the Royal Court (U.K) and MoonFool Theatre (U.K). Recent credits include: The Stranger, Legend of Lovers, 9 Jakhoo Hill, Flypaper Trap and The Love of the Nightingale. HITEN SHAH (Arjun) Having been so deeply involved with dance since his childhood, he never realized when dance became the language he spoke. He caved his way to Bollywood being a dancer for the past decade. He has performed meticulously around the world in Bollywood’s leading musicals, movies & stage shows. The experience has not just added to his growth but also gave him the opportunity to lead. He looks forward to entertain the world with his best performances for years to come. TANVI PATEL (Kareena Kaboom) Tanvi is a performer trained in Jazz, Hip Hop, Indian Folk & Bollywood. She feels dance is a communication of the body and the soul and to express that is too deep to find in words. The nuances of stage- the music, the lights, the sweat, the extravagant costumes and last but not least the applause by the audience is what it takes to quench her thirst as a performer. SADHWI MAJUMDER (Female Dance Performer) Sadhwi has been trained in Kathak since the age of 4 and Bharathnatyam since the age of 6 by the best Gurus in the respective fields. She has a keen interest in different dance styles such as Contemporary, Folk & Bollywood. She was in the top 10 of India’s premier dance reality show Dance India Dance Season 5 and was the finalist in India’s Dancing Superstar.

SNEHA SINGH (Female Dance Performer) Sneha is a performer trained in Bharathnatyam, Salsa & Hip Hop, with a keen interest in the performing arts. She has performed thrice at the World Salsa Championships. She was also in the Top 10 of So You Think You Can Dance-India.

SHRADDHA DANDGE (Female Dance Performer) Trained in Bollywood & Indian Folk since childhood, Shraddha knows what it needs to bring the oomph to the dance floor .

KIRAN WAGHCHAWRE (Male Dance Performer) Bollywood, Hip Hop, Indian, Krump- you name it and he does it PRIYA SHETTY (Female Dance Performer) Priya is a pure Bollywood dancer featuring in several Bollywood films. NIRAJ LAMA (Male Dance Performer) Niraj was a member of the “Desi Hoppers” crew that represented India at the World Dance Championship in Los Angeles, returning home with the Crowd Favorite trophy. He also featured in Americas Got Talent Season 11 and is proficient in Hip-Hop, B-Boy and Bollywood. SAHIL MAYENKAR (Male Dance Performer) Sahil has been dancing since the age of 3 and has featured in several of Indias dance shows. Versatile at Hip Hop, Popping, Latin and Bollywood. HANDAN RAINA (Guitarist) Chandan has been playing the guitar for the past 15 years and has performed with top Indian bands such as 2Blue, Luke Kenny, Bhaskar Collective, Samved & Gaurav Dagaonkar. ANISH KALE (Percussionist) Anish Kale’s element of sound includes Techno House, Minimal Techno, Progressive House, Commercial, Psychedelic, Euro house, Dutch house, Glitch hop & Bollywood and has been in the industry for more than 12 years now. The first instrument he started playing at the age of 13 was Bongos, the other instruments that he performs on are the Darbuka, Djembe, Rotos, Snare, Duff, Congos, Tom and Tabla. He has also perfomed with the stalwarts of Indian music such as Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Ghazi Khan, Sukhbir . 31

TAJ EXPRESS: THE BOLLYWOOD MUSICAL AVADOOTH PHADKE (Flautist) Avadooth is a fourth generation flautist. He is classically trained under the guidance of Pt. Rupak Kulkarni. Music has been his passion since the childhood. Avadhoot has performed with Ustad Taufik Qureshi and Maestro Louiz Banks.

CREATIVE TEAM SHRUTI MERCHANT (Producer/Director) Shruti Merchant began her career assisting her sister Vaibhavi Merchant in films like Dhoom, Lakshya, Baghban, Kuch Na Kaho, Kal Ho Na Ho, Devdas and Jab Tak Hai Jaan. She made her debut as a Choreographer and won the Big Entertainment Award for best Choreography for the song “Thug Le” from “Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl”. Prior to directing Taj Express, she toured with travelling musicals for over five years as a touring choreographer. She has performed in countries like Australia, UK, Switzerland, South Africa, Spain, France, Singapore and the United States to name a few and it was during this time that she experienced the global theatre scene first-hand. Touring internationally she has gained experience and knowledge in the field of direction and production of stage shows. With Taj Express, she has created a path-breaking song, dance and drama extravaganza that will entertain and enthral audiences of all ages, world-over. Shruti hopes to have Taj Express tour in every big and small city around the world - to give audiences a true flavor of India. VAIBHAVI MERCHANT (Director of Choreography) Vaibhavi Merchant is one of Bollywood’s leading dance choreographers. The grand daughter of pioneering Indian choreographer Shri B Hiralal, Vaibhavi’s journey with dance began at an early age. During her career, Vaibhavi has choreographed dance numbers in numerous hit Bollywood films. She has been awarded a National Film Award for her choreography in ‘Dhol Baaje’ from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Her recent hits include Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Dhoom-3, Fan, Sultan and Befikre. Vaibhavi was also the choreography director for The Merchants of Bollywood, which has been touring globally for the past ten years. With Taj Express, Vaibhavi has worked towards bringing the magic of the story on stage through the expression and grace of various dance forms. PRANAV MERCHANT (Executive Producer) Pranav Merchant has spent his life building businesses in varied industries including Real Estate, Entertainment etc. and guiding them to profitability. His passion for the International Musical Business brings Pranav on board the Taj Express, where he hopes to introduce audiences in India and abroad to the true essence of India while creating a global platform to showcase Indian talent. As the Executive Producer, Pranav has been dedicated to getting some of the Indian entertainment industry’s most gifted talents involved in Taj Express. TOBY GOUGH (Writer) An award-winning international music theatre writer and director, Toby Gough is the creator of hit musicals such as The Merchants of Bollywood, The Bar at 32

He is also currently working on two new musicals- Miami Libre with Cuban artists living in Miami in collaboration with the Grammy-nominated super group Tiempo Libre and a new hip-hop project, in the Dharavi Slums of Mumbai. He recently produced The Cuban Gypsy Project album with world music guru Damian Draghici and other legends of Cuban and Gypsy music. Toby is director of Brazil!Brazil!, Irish Celtic and Irish Celtic Generations Musical. He has created pioneering community engagement, conflict transformation projects in Sri Lanka, Yugoslavia, Africa and Australia. He directs a world music theatre venue- The World Festival, in collaboration with Brian Cox and Peter Gabriel, which won the Spirit of the Festival lifetime achievement award. He is also the recipient of five Scotsman First Prize Awards at The Edinburgh Festival and two Spirit of the Festival Awards, two Total Theatre Awards, the Guardian International Theatre Award and has been nominated for a Grammy Award for his work with Tanzanian musicians, the Zawose Family. SALIM & SULAIMAN MERCHANT (Music Composers) Salim and Sulaiman are a renowned Indian music composer duo credited with a host of chart-topping hits. In the past decade the duo have composed music for blockbuster Bollywood flicks such as Chak De India, Fashion, Neal ‘n’ Nikki and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi to name a few. With the title track of the Taj Express which was composed exclusively for the show, Salim and Sulaiman have created a score that features traditional Indian sounds while maintaining a global flavour. ABHIJIT VAGHANI (Music Director) Having started his career with fun and spunky jingles, Abhijit Vaghani made a beeline into mainstream Bollywood, scoring absolutely thrilling and record-breaking backgrounds and tracks in Blockbusters. His eccentric sense of style and individuality equipped the scenes with precision and character. Interpreting visual scenes into matriculate sounds comes naturally to this promising young musician. His productions are greatly appreciated and acknowledged not only within the Bollywood Film industry and its audiences, but internationally as well. The national and international acclaim that he has achieved in such a short span of time only proves his dedication and passion for the world of music. His work as a music producer in latest hit moviesSarabjit, Fan, Ki & Ka, Kapoor & Sons and Bajirao Mastani displays inspirational productions, which reflect his passion, drive and the ability to create unimaginable harmony. BIPIN TANNA (Costume Designer) Taj Express is Bipin Tanna’s second experience with a musical on stage in addition to various Bollywood movies and TV shows. Designing costumes for the show was an extensive and intriguing project which resulted in over 1000 costumes and more than 500 accessories featuring exquisite details, colours, glamour and bling. One of the goals is to put Indian textiles on the international map and the Taj Express is as much a journey through the vast array of Indian textiles as it is through India. 33

THE STORY Taj Express is the love story between Kareena, a beautiful actress, and Arjun, a handsome hero of the streets. At first it seems that they are both from opposite worlds, but their love for dance brings them together. Arjun rescues young people from the streets and offers them a training in classical dance. Kareena longs for freedom from the pressures of being a celebrity as well as a showbiz relationship that her producer is forcing her to adopt for publicity. Deep in her heart she is searching for fulfillment. The story of Goddess Saraswati is the allegory for her story, the pursuit of knowledge through rejection of material possessions and subsequent escape from the clutches of Lord Brahma. Arjun knows the path she must take to find enlightenment. She must rediscover the essence of dance, poetry and meditation and the meaning of true love. For this discovery, she must leave Bollywood and the world she knows behind. Travelling on board one of Indiaâ€™s iconic steam engines, Arjun and Kareena escape on a thrilling adventure across this colourful, exotic and magical land. The journey takes them from the film studios of Mumbai, to the southernmost tip of India, from the temples of Varanasi to the fields of Punjab, ending with a fabulous wedding in the Royal Palaces of Rajasthan. No Bollywood story is complete without a villain and this story is no different. Shakaal, an underground Mob Boss, has a vendetta against Arjun and a mission to bring Kareena back to Bollywood or destroy them both. In the final dramatic encounter, Shakaal is defeated and Arjun is revealed to be an undercover Prince who marries Kareena in a fabulous, opulent, Indian wedding.

The Drumline Live band will climax the “Halftime” dance routine with dazzling choreography and musical selections that highlight the best of the ‘80s, ‘90s and 2000’s Hip-Hop music.

As the football game ends, the POST GAME PARTY begins. Most HBCU homecoming parades and post game parties resemble the huge street celebration in New Orleans, Louisiana called Mardi Gras. It’s time for everybody to join the parade and party in the aisles with the Drumline Live Band, HBCU style! Meet us in the Lobby!!

DON P. ROBERTS (Founder/Musician/Educator/Entrepreneur) Mr. Don P. Roberts, M.M.Ed. served as the Executive Band Consultant for the twentieth century fox hit movie, Drumline. He was responsible for training the actors, writing the precision drills, rehearsing the band, etc. As the chief band consultant, he played a vital role in the making of Drumline and its success. The movie received national and international acclaim. In 2003, it was nominated by the naacp as “most outstanding motion picture” and also nominated for an “american choreography award” for outstanding achievement in a feature film. Mr. Roberts also serves as the president and ceo, director, playwright, and creator of the critically acclaimed theatrical production, Drumline Live, which toured all across the U.S., Japan, and korea from 2008-2013. The Drumline Live tour was managed by Columbia Artist Management Incorporated (CAMI). Drumline Live is now working in collaboration with the Creative Booking Agency (CBA) in preparation for the upcoming 2017 tour. Don P. Roberts received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) in Tallahassee, Florida. While at FAMU, he served as drum major, student conductor, and student arranger in what is considered to be one of the finest band programs in America. He received a Master’s Degree in Music Education from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. Presently, Mr. Roberts is pursuing a Doctorate Degree in Administration from Argosy University in Sarasota, Florida. JACQUES A. BELL (Choreographer) Known as the “Jacques” of all trades, he has grown to encompass a multifaceted range of talents from dance and choreography to music, theater, and film. Originally from Montego Bay, Jamaica, Mr. Bell relocated to Long Island, New York, where at a tender age he began to exhibit a noticeable love for the arts. Years later he again relocated to his current home of Atlanta, Georgia where as a high school student, he received countless accolades as an instrumentalist, performing in some of Georgia’s most accomplished student and professional ensembles. This foundation in music was further augmented at the University of Georgia where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from the Hugh Hodgson School of Music and became a highly sought-after Musician, Music Educator, and Clinician. While quickly gaining recognition for his work with industry personalities such as Def Jam recording artist, Ne-Yo, Mr. Bell began to receive numerous high profile opportunities in Music Videos, Television, and Stage Productions, with his work being showcased on major television networks including MTV, BET, and VH1. He has similarly been afforded the opportunity to work with noted aggregations such as the Atlanta Falcons Cheerleaders, the Atlanta Hawks “A Town” Dancers, and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Jacques is highly motivated in perfecting his craft and is currently the Principal Saxophonist of the Atlanta Wind Symphony and director of the Gwinnett School of Dance Hip-Hop department.

THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE CONCERT BAND The United States Air Force Concert Band is the premier symphonic wind ensemble of the United States Air Force. Stationed at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C., it is the largest of six musical ensembles that comprise The United States Air Force Band. Featuring 53 active duty Airmen musicians, the Concert Band performs throughout the United States via biannual tours, live radio, television and Internet broadcasts, as well as at local concerts across metropolitan Washington, D.C. Additionally, Concert Band members perform in smaller chamber ensembles at official military and civilian functions, education outreach events and local concert venues. The Concert Band performs a wide variety of music ranging from classical transcriptions and original works to solo features, light classics, popular favorites and patriotic selections. Remaining true to the Air Force’s pioneering spirit, the ensemble is renowned as a champion of new works for band, with dozens of world premieres to its credit. It is in constant demand by many of the world’s most highly-respected professional musical organizations, including the American Bandmasters Association, Music Educators National Conference and The Midwest Clinic. As part of The U.S. Air Force Band, the Concert Band honors those who have served, inspires American citizens to heightened patriotism and service, and positively impacts the global community on behalf of the U.S. Air Force and the United States. The excellence demonstrated by these Airmen musicians is a reflection of the excellence displayed by Airmen stationed around the globe. Each member is proud to represent all Airmen, whose selfless service and sacrifices ensure the freedoms we enjoy as citizens of the United States of America.

THE SINGING SERGEANTS

The Singing Sergeants is the official chorus of the United States Air Force. Stationed at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C., the group is one of six musical ensembles that comprise The U.S. Air Force Band. Featuring 23 active duty Airmen musicians, the Singing Sergeants presents more than 200 performances annually performing a wide range of musical styles, from traditional Americana, opera, and choral standards to modern Broadway and jazz. The Singing Sergeants regularly perform with their instrumental combo and in smaller configurations, such as duets, Barbershop quartets and specialized musical ensembles, at military and civilian ceremonial and diplomatic functions, education outreach events and local concerts throughout metropolitan Washington, D.C. Originally formed as a men’s chorus in 1945 from the rank and file of The U.S. Army Air Forces Band, the Singing Sergeants became the first premier military chorus to integrate women in 1973. Today, the group’s members often perform for the Department of Defense and other high-level military and civilian functions, using music to bridge language and cultural differences and helping advance positive diplomatic relations through song. The chorus is regularly featured at regional and national music education conferences, including the American Choral Directors Association, the Music Educators National Conference and Chorus America. At varied venues, the Singing Sergeants reach a diverse audience with the beauty and power of music. As part of The U.S. Air Force Band, the Singing Sergeants honors those who have served, inspires American citizens to heightened patriotism and service, and positively impacts the global community on behalf of the U.S. Air Force and the United States. PARKING—Parking is available in the parking garage directly in front of RiverCenter, 900 Broadway. A fee of $2.00-$5.00 is charged after 6:00pm for some events. Parking for those with disabilities is available in front of RiverCenter’s main entrance. Parking also is available without charge on the streets around RiverCenter. The garage is managed by the City of Columbus, not RiverCenter.
