For 25 years, RiverCenter has brought people together through extraordinary performances and the shared joy of the arts. This fall, we are delighted to welcome: • Syncopated Ladies—a groundbreaking, all-female tap company celebrating sisterhood, diversity and female empowerment, created by Emmy-nominated choreographer Chloé Arnold, a protégé of the legendary Debbie Allen. • Joe Gransden—performing the timeless songs of Tony Bennett with his 16-piece big band in celebration of Bennett’s 100th birthday! • TAKE 6—10 Grammy Awards, 10 Dove Awards, two NAACP Image Awards, a Soul Train Award and more say it all about six extraordinary voices whose harmonies must be heard to be believed. • John Crist—one of today’s most popular comedians, bringing his sharp and relatable observations about everyday life and Southern culture to our stage. I have had the pleasure of seeing each of these remarkable artists except John Crist, and I look forward to experiencing his performance with you! Presenting artists of this caliber requires the participation of our entire community. We call it The True Cost of Greatness: ticket sales cover only about 60 cents of every dollar required to bring outstanding performances to our stage. Fierce Footwork. Tap Dance Sensations. Female Force. Two sisters. One dream. Chloé and Maude are a sister dancing, choreographing, and producing duo. Both Internationally recognized tap dancers and graduates of Columbia University in Film, Emmy Award Nominated Chloé, and her sister Maud Arnold are creating opportunities to elevate and celebrate the Art of Tap Dancing through Film, TV, and live events. 13
Their work has taken them worldwide, to over 30 countries. Chloé’s choreography was recently featured in Jerry Seinfeld’s Unfrosted on Netflix, Apple TV+ musical film Spirited starring Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer, as well as over 80 episodes of The Late Late Show with James Corden. Maud’s choreography was featured in Hulu’s hit Theatre Camp starring Ben Platt, and A24’s Y2K. Chloé, along with the support of Maud, founded Syncopated Ladies, a Female Tap Dance Band widely known for their viral videos — with Chloé and Maud pacing the way, Syncopated Ladies are carving out their own place in the industry. Chloé and Maud are also the co-directors and producers of the critically

acclaimed DC Tap Festival for the past 15 years and the Hollywood Tap Festival held at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy. Recognized by the US House of Representatives as Arts Preservers and Ambassadors, The Kennedy’s Centers NEXT50 Leaders and in 2018 won the 33rd Annual Mayor’s Arts Awards for Excellence in Performing Arts. Their work showcases strength, unity, and creativity, drawing new fans to the art of tap dance, revitalizing its cultural presence. Through Chloé and Maud Foundation, their 501c3 non-profit organization, they continue to pioneer new experiences for dancers and artists worldwide.
We Stand on the Shoulders of Those Who Came Before Us
T
ap dance is an American art form born out of the necessity for freedom. African enslaved people used rhythm and their bodies as a means of communication when drums were confiscated or outlawed, and over time, this percussive dance came to be known as tap dance. Tap dancers were the biggest movie stars in American history, but black performers did not receive royalties, and their work was plagiarized. Chloé and Maud are reclaiming the rich history of the Art form and commanding the respect it deserves.
They are proving that Tap deserves the same respect as the pedestaled predominately white art forms like ballet. Tap dancing was the first art form of black people in the entertainment industry, and with it, black history was made again and again. Bill “Bojangles” Robinson was the first black person to perform to an integrated audience without black face. Edith “Baby Edwards” Hunt was the first black child on “H&H Kiddie Radio Hour”, an all-white program, in the 1930s. Tap dancing was the first original street dance of this country and it is an art form of activists who perservered through the entertainment industry so that black entertainers today have our due respect and platform.

About the Ladies
W
ith their fierce footwork and feminine style the Syncopated Ladies have accumulated over 200 million views online carving their own place in the industry and history. They have celebrated by icon Beyoncé, who not only made the Ladies’ mega-viral Formation music video the homepage of her website, but invited them to perform at the launch of her Ivy Park clothing line in London. Also receiving praise from Janet Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg on The View and many other celebrities and international news outlets, the

Founded in 2003 by Chloé at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, Syncopated Ladies were most recently featured in the hit Apple TV+ film Spirited and on hit television shows such as Bel-Air, So You Think You Can Dance, Good Morning America, Ellen, and The Talk. The Good Life: Happy 100th Birthday Tony Bennett! The Joe Gransden 16 Piece Big Band is quickly becoming one of the busiest groups on the jazz scene. Originally formed in 2009 Joe and the guys have continued to build momentum and are performing numerous shows around the country. The bands new release entitled “Songs of Sinatra & Friends” has sold incredibly well and is getting radio air play all over the world! The reviews have been fantastic! The cd was recorded in Atlanta Georgia where the band holds a steady gig twice every single month. 21

truly has its own sound and really swings!” Says Gransden, “I attribute that to the arrangements that were all written by jazz trombone great Wes Funderburk! It’s such a pleasure to front a band of top musicians that can interpret Wes’s arrangements perfectly! These guys are the best!” There legion of fans continues to grow as well.

J
azz Trumpet Player/Vocalist and Band leader Joe Gransden has performed worldwide and released 19 CDs under his own name. Renowned first for the hard bop approach of his trumpet, Gransden’s singing voice has been compared to that of Chet Baker and Frank Sinatra. “When I first heard Joe five years ago, I immediately thought of Chet,” says Jazziz magazine critic James Rozzi, “but lately his voice has taken on its own style with a deeper resonance. His trumpet has always alternated lyricism with an aggressive, angular approach. He has the ability to cover the gamut of emotions.” Joe was born in New York City but spent most of his childhood in Buffalo, NY. Coming from a family full of musicians, Joe’s introduction to music came early on through his father, a gifted singer and pianist. His grandfather was a trumpeter of merit, playing professionally his whole life throughout New York. On his mother’s side of the family was the piano virtuoso Carmen Cavallero. “Music has been a part of my life as far back as I can remember,” says the unassuming Joe Gransden. “I can remember practicing with my father, and eventually him taking me along to sit in at jam sessions. Early on
on the road as a sideman with the big bands of Tommy Dorsey and Glenn Miller. A number of A.F.M. contracted sideman gigs include Barry White, The Moody Blues, Kenny Rogers, The Temptations, Aretha Franklin, The Whispers, etc. Eventually moving to New York City, he performed with numerous groups, including sub work with Toshiko Akiyoshi and Chico O’Farrill at the famous Birdland Jazz Club. Meanwhile, Joe formed his own quartet, which performed in Brooklyn each week and included the venerable guitarist Joe Cohn. “Having my own group and being fortunate enough to travel, play, and record has been a dream come true,” says Joe. Like many developing jazzmen, Gransden’s early influences, which include Kenny Dorham and Miles Davis, were easily recognizable in his playing throughout his formative years.

“Emulating the jazz greats is always the very first step,” says the historicallyrooted Gransden. “But obviously, in order to be true to myself—who I am, what I believe in, my family background—I need to have a sound that’s my own. His recording “The Art of the Song” was recently released and is getting lots of airplay on Siriusly Sinatra XM Radio and other stations around the country. His latest recording project produced by Kenny Banks Sr. “Let’s Take A Chance Together” is set to be released in April 2026 and features new takes on the great American Songbook. Take 6 has come a long way from their days at Huntsville, Alabama’s Oakwood College where McKnight formed the group as The Gentleman’s Estate Quartet in 1980. The group eventually became known as Alliance but when they signed to Reprise Records in 1987 they found that there was another group with the same name, so they became Take 6. Their self-titled debut CD won over jazz and pop critics and they’ve never slowed down. What makes the music and the group last this long? The answers are direct and simple: faith, friendship, respect, and love of music. Box Office & Parking
BOX OFFICE The box office at RiverCenter, located at the corner of Broadway and Tenth Street, is open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m – 3 p.m., and two hours before each performance and remains open through intermission. The box office is not open on federal holidays unless there is an event that day. FREE PARKING Parking is available in the parking garage directly in front of RiverCenter, 900 Broadway. Parking for those with disabilities is available in front of our main entrance. The garage is managed by the City of Columbus, not RiverCenter.

NO BABIES IN ARMS Everyone attending a ticketed event, including all children regardless of age, must have a ticket. BACKSTAGE AREAS RESTRICTED For safety and security and out of respect for performers’ privacy, patrons are not given access to backstage areas before or after performances.

HOUSE OPENING AND LATE ARRIVALS RiverCenter’s Grand Lobby opens two hours prior to events and seating begins 30 minutes to one hour before curtain. At the discretion of house management and in compliance with artists’ contractual agreements, latecomers will be seated at appropriate intervals during events. Latecomers may be seated near the entry doors out of courtesy to performers and other patrons. PROHIBITED EQUIPMENT Please be courteous and silence cell phones. Photography and recording is prohibited in the theatres. SMOKE-FREE POLICY RiverCenter is a smoke-free facility. Smoking is permitted in outdoor areas only. Thank you for your cooperation.

ELEVATOR A patron elevator is located between the entrances to Bill Heard Theatre and Studio Theatre. WHEELCHAIRS Wheelchairs are available for patrons needing help getting to or from seating. Ushers will provide assistance. AUDIO AIDS RiverCenter patrons can now take advantage of our new and improved assistive listening system available for all performance halls. The new system utilizes FM radio waves and Wi-Fi signals to provide a superior audio experience. Please visit Guest Services to request a device to ensure your ultimate listening experience.
LOST AND FOUND Found items should be given to an usher for storing with RiverCenter Security. These items are retained by security for 30 days and then donated. Owners may claim lost items by calling 706.256.3630 during regular business hours. BAR SERVICE Please visit concessions and order from the many beverage and snack options that we have available. Cups with lids, and twist top plastic bottled items purchased from the bar are permitted inside of the theatre. Outside food and beverages are not permitted in the theatre.
