Bridge to the Wild, Riverbanks Zoo and Garden's newest vision will transform the Zoo and Garden into the state's leading conservation resource and elevate its stature as the Southeast's premier destination for family fun. This exciting next phase of Riverbanks’ future will connect communities and immerse guests in extraordinary naturalistic animal habitats while highlighting the incredible diversity of flora and fauna around the globe.
Projects in Phase Two of Bridge to the Wild include the recently opened Saluda Skyride, an aerial lift that transports guests across the Saluda River between the Zoo and Botanical Garden; a dining facility and observation deck with unparalleled river views; a first-of-its-kind primate forest and red panda habitat; a tiger habitat on the banks of the Saluda; and an expanded lion habitat slated for construction in summer 2026.
This major makeover will attract tourists and locals alike, boosting Riverbanks’ economic impact in the Midlands to more than $175 million annually, creating an additional 500 jobs in the community, and enhancing the livability and quality of life of our community.
EXPANDED LION HABITAT
Set to begin in 2026, the expanded habitat, next to Safari Camp, provides more space, enrichment, and natural features that encourage exploration and social behavior.
PATHWAY TO THE WILD
A fully accessible path along the hillside will connect guests to brand-new immersive experiences, sparking curiosity and inspiring conservation action.
PRIMATE FOREST
A first-of-its-kind habitat along the riverbanks will offer new insights into the world of endangered monkeys and inspire guests to help combat wildlife trafficking.
RIVERFRONT RESTAURANT
An expansive dining facility and event venue along the banks of the Saluda River will provide sweeping views and an enhanced dining experience for guests.
RED PANDA HABITAT
A state-of-the-art red panda habitat will allow guests to observe these amazing animals from various viewpoints while learning to help save this endangered species.
TIGER HABITAT
World-class habitat will provide plenty of room to roam while participating in the Sumatran tiger breeding program.
