Subject ClassStart Time

Subject classes start at 7:45 AM sharp, so students should be settled into their classes before then.

ClassLength

Each class will be 60mins in duration. 6 periods in total per day.

MovingBetweenClasses

In the Middle Years Programme (MYP),students move to different classrooms foreach subject.

• BreakTimes Students have two breaks during the day although this may varynext year:

• Snackbreak–20 minutes

• Lunchbreak–40minutes

• Fridays Lesson 1 starts at 7:45am. School ends at 11:30am

• EndoftheDay

After completing all lessons, students can either:

• Take the school bus home, or

• Leave with a parent/ guardian or an older sibling that is 15 years or older. Consent must be given for this.

1 Aconsistentcasemanager

Every student on the Inclusion Register is assigned a case manager / inclusion teacher. In Grade6 this is usuallythe sameinclusion teacher throughout the year — a familiar,consistent point ofcontact for your child.

2 Whendoes supporthappen?

SessionsarescheduledduringConnectEdandiStudy.

Wherea studentis exemptfromthethirdlanguage(Language Acquisition), this time mayalso be usedfor inclusion support—so support never pulls astudent awayfrom core subject lessons.

Pull-outandpush-insupport

Inclusion teachers mainly deliver pull-outsessions (small-group or 1:1 outsidethe classroom)and,attimes,push-in support — working alongside the student within theirlesson.

There is an Inclusion Assistant that is designated to asubject groupandprovides mostly push-in, in-class support — helping students access thecurriculum in realtime, duringtheir lessons.

The counsellor can help with friendshipproblems, school worries, orifyou’re having a toughday.Theyhelp youfeel better and giveadvice. You can always go tothem for support.

Whencanyouvisit?Youcanseethe counsellor during breaktime if he or she is not busy. It’s best tocheck first or ask ateacher tohelpyoufindagoodtime. There is alsoaself-referral form,whichwill besharedwiththe students at thebeginningof theyear.

BehaviorExpectations

Thepoints system is a wayof getting Osrah points and learner profile awards. If you followthe learner profiles wellin class and during breaks you can get a positivepoint! Maybetwo if you go aboveand beyond. Though, there are negativepoints also given, teachers really try to support you to giveyou theoption to changeyour behaviorfor thebetter. This is the 3 C system.

The3C's systemis a way of giving a student a chanceto correct behavior.

• C – A chanceis given as a warning not to do what you did again.

• C1– A choice is given as a choice for wanting to do it again ornot to.

• C2– A consequence. You'vedone something sillyorrepeated it again. This consequence maybe an email home ora lunch time reflection.
