An unlikely friendship

Te Swedish literary classic about the old man Petson and his curious cat Findus is hugely popular among children worldwide. Since the first book was published in 1984, another 20 book titles have been released. Te author and illustrator Sven Nordqvist creates humorous and detailed stories.

Sven Nordqvist

Sven Nordqvist was born 1946 in Helsingborg, Sweden, and has been drawing and painting his whole life. In 1983 Sven Nordqvist won the publisher Opal’s picture book competition with Agaton Öman and Alfabet. In the book, Pannkakstårtan, Petson and Findus were born. It wasn't initially intended to be a series, but somehow the old man and his cat stuck around, and are still some of Sweden's most popular characters today.

During his teenage years, Nordqvist was very inspired by the characters in MAD magazine. He also has an interest in carpentry and technical construction, which has also lef its mark on his character Petson.

Sven Nordqvist's illustrations are characterized by their richness of color and detail, which is difcult to find an equivalent to. Each picture is like its own world full of small characters, and you can look at them for a long time and still find new details that were previously missed. Perhaps that is precisely why the illustrations are so popular and liked by everyone, from small children to adults who have long since lef picture books behind.

Te experience room at Sundsvalls Museum

Te clever old man Petson and the quirk cat Findus are the main characters in this experience room, which has its starting point in the UN's global goals, filled with gadgets and the occasional mugle. Here, children can play and tinker in Petson and Findus’ world and at the same time learn about the climate.

Te experience room has been designed together with Lina Sporrong, scenographer, who among other things worked with Petson and Findus’ world at Gröna Lund in Stockholm.

Petson & Findus celebrates 40 years!

In 2024, Petson and Findus turned 40! It’s been 40 years since the first book, "Pannkakstårtan," was released in 1984. Troughout 2024, this was celebrated with competitions, new products, and other fun things.

Locations

”Hemma hos Petson & Findus” is a bookable exhibition designed to tour around locations in Sweden. It started in Skellefeå and had around 30 000 visitors. Te upcoming exhibition locations are:
