Hewlett House hosts its inaugural garage sale Men’s Health Awareness month page 5
Hewlett House hosted its first garage sale on May 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with support from students and families from the Norman J. Levy Lakeside School in Merrick. The community sta ple, known for its support of cancer patients and their families, has partnered with
students from the school since Hewlett House opened in 2000. Funds raised from the garage sale will help cover operational costs, including supplies, wig stands and materials for crochet comfort items donated to hospitals across Long Island, including Mount Sinai South Nassau in
Oceanside, for patients undergoing chemotherapy. “We get phone calls from all over,” Geri Barish, founder of Hewlett House said. “When peo-
ple see what we do with the kids, the teachers, the community, I think it’s really important in this day and age.” — Melissa Berman
