A flutist who’s found her sound Locust Vally senior performs in Oyster Bay Music Festival By WILL SHEELINE wsheeline@liherald.com
Abby Vuong, an incoming senior at Locust Valley High School, began her career as a musical performer with an embarrassing crash. Now, nearly a decade later, the flutist is playing at the highest levels, including her second performance in the Oyster Bay Music Festival earlier this summer. As a third-grader, Vuong had her sights set on becoming “the next Yo-Yo Ma,” the legendary cellist. But the cello, she discovered, was far too large for her. She has twice performed in the Oyster Bay Music Festival, most recently taking part in a festival master CONTINUED ON PAGE 16
