Amity library renovations almost done By CAROLYN JAMES cjames@liherald.com
The Amityville Public Library will temporarily close at the end of the day on Aug. 14 as its nearly three-year renovation project enters its final phase. While the library building is closed, limited services will be available at Sgt. John J. Kreyer VFW Post 7223, 300 Broadway, Amityville. Library officials said they expect the renovated facility to reopen in the fall. “We understand it has been a long journey but we are confident that the community will be satis-
fied once the project is finished.” Assistant Library Director Shadd Jamison said. “We welcome everyone to visit the new and improved library once it is complete.” Temporary services at the VFW will include exercise programming and a limited collection of books and book checkout and return services. “There will be a scaled down version of our normal services,” Jamison said. “In the meantime, we are recommending that our library users go other neighboring libraries such as the Copiague and Lindenhurst, where library cards will be accepted.” CONTINUED ON PAGE 16
