Fire crews stretched hose lines outside a Vincent Avenue home early New Year’s Day after flames spread from outside the structure into the kitchen walls and ceiling. Firefighters cleared the scene shortly before dawn.

Two house fires in Lynbrook on New Year’s Day leave three injured By AINSlEY MARTINEZ amartinez@liherald.com

Lynbrook firefighters responded to two house fires on New Year’s Day, the only such fires reported in Nassau County that day, according to Fire Department spokesman Steve Grogan. Command requested that the Nassau County fire marshal respond to investigate the causes. The first fire was reported at about 3:30 a.m. on Vincent Avenue. Flames that began outside the home spread into the walls and ceiling of the kitchen, causing damage to the room. Firefighters were released from the scene at about 5 a.m. The second fire was reported at 1:12 p.m.

at a home on Hendrickson Avenue and involved a fully engulfed bedroom on the second floor. Engine Company 1 was first to arrive, and Chief of Department Clayton Murphy transmitted a Signal 10, indicating a working fire, Grogan said. The engine company secured a hydrant up the block after dropping a hose line at the house, and a second line was stretched by other arriving units. Firefighters advanced the first line to the second floor and battled fire in a bedroom and the roof area. During overhaul operations, a member of the truck company fell through a portion of the burned-out floor of the fire room but was not injured, Grogan said.
