Cheerleader coaches receive top Nassau County honors By TAYloR GRAYSoN tgrayson@liherald.com

Kristal Hernandez and Kristen Lynch, cheerleading coaches at West Hempstead Secondary School, have each been named Nassau County Section 8 Class C Coach of the Year, the West Hempstead School District recently announced. The coaches were informed of their win on Nov. 5 and officially awarded on Nov. 15. Both coaches were recognized for their dedication, expertise and passion in leading the Rams’ cheerleading team of about 14 stu-

dents. The cheerleading team performs at football games in solidarity with other sports groups in the school building. Section 8 of the New York State Public High School Activities Association is a governing body for high school sports in Nassau County. It is also known as Nassau County Public High School Athletic Association. Hernandez has served as varsity coach for three years, bringing extensive experience from her time as a Division II competitor at Long Island University, where she participated in multiple National Cheerleaders Continued on page 2 November 21, 2024
