Bethany Congregational Church in East Rockaway hosted a semiannual event last Saturday, bringing authors, artists and fans together for a community raffle and meetand-greet that was also a fundraiser benefiting the church’s natural disaster relief and community collaboration initiatives. The event has been dubbed HurriCon, and described by its organizers as New York’s “only benefitrelief comic con.” David Donovan, a church board trustee and the event’s organizer, sparked the idea for the fundraiser in 2018, when the church needed to restore its floors after assisting residents during Hurricane Sandy.
