For the first time since March, the Freeport Chamber of Commerce reconvened for its regular networking luncheons on July 15, at the Seafood Grill by the Nautical Mile. “Freeport is waking up and moving forward,” said Jenny Jorge, Chamber of Commerce president. “Everyone is working hard on not only on reopening and getting

their customers back, but also on making people feel confident about returning as customers.” Kathryn Gawrych, owner of Real Life Ninja Academy, at 272 Buffalo Ave., said her business was only nine weeks old when she had to shut down because of the coronavirus pandemic. The shutdown caused her to lose a great deal of business, as parties that had been booked for spring and summer had to be canceled.

When she reopened on July 14, Gawrych saw some clients return, along with new customers who wanted to sign their children up for her daycamp sessions. “Kids need activities to ke e p t h e m p re o c c u p i e d through all this, so I’m getting business back, but it’s only about 25 percent of what I used to have,” Gawrych said.
