Mepham makes history with first county title Mepham’s girls’ volleyball team captured its first Nassau County championship in program history on Monday afternoon with a four-set victory over top-seeded, defending champ Long Beach in the Class AA final, held at East Meadow High School. Coached by Tom Wildeman, the second-seeded Pirates took the first, third and fourth sets to claim the crown and avenge a loss to the Marines in last year’s title match. At right, captains Sam Raikos and Makayla Daube were instrumental in Mepham’s victory. Raikos had 18 kills and 10 digs, and Daube added 19 assists and 6 kills. Story, additional photo, Page 7.
