Last week was a banner one for the Baldwin High School basketball programs as both the boys’ and girls’ teams captured Long Island titles. Coached by Darius Burton, the boys continued a historic postseason run with a 75-56 victory over Amityville March 11 at Farmingdale State College in the L.I. Class AA championship game. It took a strong collective effort by the Bruins, who saw their entire starting five come through on the biggest stage. Sophomore Mical Saint Jean scored 19 points, junior point guard Ethan Sainsbury added 17, senior Chase Timberlake 12, senior Vaughdrea Johnson 11 and junior Gabe Phillips 8. The following night, also at Farmingdale, the Lady Bruins beat Westhampton, 66-34, for the L.I. Class AA girls’ basketball title. scored at least 18 points in three of four quarters on the way to taking down Westhampton, 66-34, for the L.I. Class AA crown also at Far mingdale State College.
