Harpers Ferry, Iowa Scenic Unit #722 American Legion and Auxiliary We invite you to join the fun, festivities and Memorial Day Parade, Monday, May 30, 2022. The day begins with an Ecumenical Church Service at 9:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. The parade starts at 10:00 a.m. with a full line up of floats, the Waukon Junior High Band, Waukon, Iowa, classic cars and trucks, clowns, you name it. After the parade there will be a short program at Veterans Park, near the Harpers Ferry post office, honoring the local veterans who have given their lives for peace. During this program, the laying of wreaths by the Ladies Auxiliary will be done for each who has lost his life in war. ALLAMAKEE Junior High band members will play at the program, and Jon Michael Payne will sing “ The Star Spangled Banner”. Katerina Kovark, Girls State Citizen, 2022, will read a short poem about the “Five Sullivan Brothers”. Participating in the short program will be Gloria Payne, American Legion Auxiliary President, Commander Bob Sturch, American Legion Scenic Unit #722, Mr. Dan Conway, American Legion Scenic Unit #722 Chaplain. A 21 gun salute by the American Legion Scenic Unit #722, and Taps played by Russell Hagen, along with Tim Lund, on the echoing trumpet. At 11:00 a.m. on Memorial Day, May 30, 2022, the Annual Pork Chop dinner will be held at the Harpers Ferry Community Center, Harpers Ferry, Iowa.
