Stoughton Fair attendees enjoyed fun, food and fireworks at during the 93rd annual event. The fair consisted of animal showing and project exhibition for 4-Hers and FFA members, eating contests, carnival rides, grandstand shows each night and live music. New this year at the grandstand was a second tractor pull provided by Southwest Pullers. The fair changed the horse pull event on Friday night to help audiences better follow along with the action.

take to the track in purple T-shirts to walk the ceremonial first lap as the crowd recognizes their battle. They are then joined by teammates and supporters, talking and bonding as they walk around the track with people who have had similar experiences. “There’s a lot of camaraderie,” Annen said. “It’s very emotional if you’ve ever had anyone fighting it.” This year’s theme is “Lights, Camera, Cure,” and teams will pick a movie — Annen’s Team Cress picked Star Wars — to guide how they decorate their campsite and costumes. You don’t have to be on a team or have donated money to come to the event, Annen said, as many people come to eat or drink or look at the luminarias remembering those fighting cancer and those who have

Running Inc. took over taxi service in January BILL LIVICK Unified Newspaper Group

The city began contracting with a new provider for Stoughton Transit’s shared ride taxi service in January, but people who regularly use it shouldn’t notice many changes, city and transit officials said. The new provider, Running Inc., is “always looking for continuous improvement,” Mayor Tim Swadley said. Stoughton Transit

operates with four Dodge Caravans, two of which are wheelchair-accessible, and the city is looking into grants in hopes of acquiring another van. Swadley told the Hub the transit operation is a valuable asset because “lots of people don’t have transportation or don’t feel comfortable driving in the community.” “There’s a variety of people, young and old, that utilize the service,” Swadley said. Without it, he added, many would be dependent on family and friends for even the smallest errand.

The annual Stoughton/McFarland/ Oregon Relay for Life will return to Mandt Park, South Fourth Street, from 5-11 p.m. Friday, July 20. This year’s fundraiser for the American Cancer Society is a month later than years’ past and the closing ceremonies have moved to 11 p.m. the night of the event instead of the morning after. In previous years, teams stayed overnight, but this year the ceremony will take place a few hours after the luminarias are lit around 9:30 p.m. Planning committee member Kristine Annen said fewer people had been staying overnight, making the next day’s cleanup a challenge, but the event will have a similar feel, as most people who left stuck around

‘Lights, camera, cure’ ALEXANDER CRAMER

After the inaugural event last year brought more than 2,500 people to downtown Main Street, the Chamber of Commerce is partnering with local artists and businesses to bring the A r t Wa l k Trotter back to Stoughton. Chamber director Laura Trotter told the Hub Monday that the decision was a “no brainer,” considering the multitude of local artists willing to be featured. “We could have used artists from just around here because of how artistic our community is, and we mostly do,” she said. “But we even have (an
