OBITUARIES
Patricia Ann Visgar (Pat), age 78, of Reedsburg, WI, passed away peacefully in her home per her wishes surrounded by her family on Thursday, August 12, 2021. This was her fourth diagnosis of cancer, which she accepted with grace and unbelievable courage. Pat was born to the late Garold Myron and Viola Teresa (Walsh) Luxton, the eldest child on January 7, 1943 and grew up in Cazenovia, WI. She attended grade school at the Cazenovia Public School, and St. Anthony’s. Pat graduated from Weston High School in 1960, and attended two years at UW-Platteville. Pat later moved to Reedsburg where she raised and dedicated her life to her five children. Pat worked a full time job in addition to two part time jobs and still found time for fun and doing for others. Her primary job was as a Certified Nursing Assistant. After working for 26-1/2 years at Sauk County Health Care Center, she retired and then worked for an additional 20 years at the Reedsburg Senior Life Center. During that time she worked 32 years at Sacred Heart School where she touched many lives and was known and loved as Mrs. V, the lunch lady. Pat and her children voluntarily took care of the many elderly people so they could remain in their homes longer. She instilled in her children the value of working hard, being humble and kind, and always doing and putting others first. Pat opened her home to more than 13 people whom at one time or another needed a place to stay. Her home was always the gathering place for friends. Pat is survived by her children: Shelly (Robb) Thompson, Rhonda Froehlich, Kristi (Pete) Leeser, Dan (Diana) Visgar, and Jonelle (Barry) Peters; grandchildren: Kase (Nate) Gassen, Chad (Sedona) Scott, Kirsten (Tiff) Peters, Jesi (Scott) Neumann, Morgan Lohr, Amber Scott, Drew (Michelle) Peters, Ali Lohr, Kelsey (Logan) Peters, Devon Visgar, Kaylee Froehlich, Dylan Visgar, Anna Froehlich, Dawson and Dalton Visgar; greatgrandchildren: Hallie Laridean Mitchell, Izabella Mitchell, Waylon and Willow McKenzie, Jaxon, Colt, and Jayce Scott, Paisley and Woodson Neumann; sister, Shirley (Tracy) Jennings; brother, Chuck (Maureen) Luxton; special nephew George (Heather) Koeller; special cousins: Jeannie (Jake) Rockweiler, Elaine (Ray), Audrey and daughter Barb; her aunt, Mary Walsh; and special “adoptive daughter” Joyce (Dave) Pulvermacher; along with many nieces, nephews, and special friends. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Garold and Viola Luxton; sister, Vickie Luxton; three brothers who passed away in infancy, Ronald, John and another prematurely; two nephews, Chuck Luxton and Derrik Jennings; and son-in-law Gary Froehlich. A special thank you to Dr. Deborah Neumann for her dedication, exceptional care and expertise; and to Dr. Roger Kulstad and Dr. Rebecca Sippel who provided the family with extra treasured months. Thank you also to the Weston Class of 1960, to all her family and friends for the visits, cards, flowers, food, and for helping her through her journey. The Mass of Christian Burial for Pat will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Reedsburg with Father Ray Dischler officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg. The rosary will be prayed at 6:30 P.M. Visitation will also be on Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be made in the Resting Green Cemetery in Ironton. Memorials of remembrance may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital; Sacred Heart School Foundation, or St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Cazenovia.
Carlyle Gale Brewer
Carlyle Gale Brewer, 86, of rural Richland Center, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Schmitt Woodland Hills on Thursday, August 12, 2021. Carlyle was born to Bernard and Violet (Bradley) Brewer near Valton, Wisconsin, on May 15, 1935. He graduated from Ithaca High School in 1955. He attended the UW-Madison School of Agriculture after high school. In 1957, Carlyle enlisted in the US Army and served for two years with the 3rd Infantry Division 123 Signal Battalion, being honorably discharged as a Specialist 4 in 1959. While in the Army, he was stationed in Missouri, Georgia, and Germany. He received sharpshooter and marksman commendations and the Good Conduct Medal. On June 20, 1964, Carlyle married Mary Hooker at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Richland Center. Together they worked the Brewer family farm for nearly 20 years. He has held many off-the-farm jobs, including driving school bus at Ithaca Public Schools, helping Wayne Anderson with farm work, working at Equity Livestock, and being a custodian at the UW-Madison for over 10 years, until his retirement in 2000. Carlyle enjoyed traveling (especially out west to South Dakota and Wyoming); working on and collecting tractors; listening to country music and going dancing with his wife Mary; deer hunting; watching RFDTV, the news, or a good western on TV; reading; visiting with friends and neighbors; and spending time with his family and friends. Carlyle is survived by his wife, Mary; four children Diane Williams (Jeff Spohnholtz) of Richland Center, Brian (Denna) Brewer of rural Muscoda/Blue River, Kimberly (Shawn) Gavin of Lone Rock, and Amy Fry (Roy Anding) of Sextonville; 13 grandchildren (Cheyenne [Joe], Chailae, Jacob, Hannah, Kasha, Jared, Wyatt, Christina, Blaise, Felicity, Ethan, Synder, and Bradley); four great-grandchildren (Tira ‘lei, Jonathan, Teigley, and Kicxly; “bonus” grandchildren (Allison, Noah, Austin, Audrey, Steffany, Halley, and Jeylah); brother and sister-in-law Linton and Mary Brewer of Richland Center; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Carlyle was preceded in death by his parents, mother- and fatherin-law August and Christina Hooker, brother Ethan Brewer, sister and brother-in-law Vera and Elder Buelow, sisters- and brothers-in-law Helen and Holly Jacobson, Evelyn and Harley Hooker, Mary and August Hooker Jr., and Wilmer Hooker. Services will be held at the Pratt Memorial Chapel in Richland Center at 4:00 PM, Friday, August 20, 2021. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 19, 2021, and again at the Pratt Memorial Chapel from 3:00 PM until the time of the service at 4:00 PM on Friday, August 20, 2021. Full military honors will be conducted by the Local Veterans Military Memorial Honors Unit following the service at the Pratt Memorial Chapel. Memorials may be made to the family. Fern E Jensen Poe, 80 of Crystal River, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 4, 2021. Fern traveled the world with her husband Eugene, as he was in the Air Force. Upon retirement they settled in Florida. Fern loved her family, flowers, flea markets and antiques. Fern was preceded in death by her parents Ervin and Cleone Jensen, Freda Jensen Rogers, Phyllis Jensen Wadsworth, Billy, Karen, and Thelma Jensen. Survivors include: Carol (Fred) Jensen Kritz, Arkansas; Richard (Marilyn) Jensen, Lone Rock. Many nieces, nephews, friends. Fern will be laid to rest in Florida.
Shirley A. Hometh Shirley A. Hometh, age 84, of Muscoda, WI, passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at her home. She was born February 12, 1937, in Fennimore, WI, to George and Mildred (Lettman) Graham. Shirley grew up in Muscoda, during her teens, she moved to Madison and worked in various jobs, in addition to being a live-in child care provider. She married Roger Hometh in November 1958 at the Little Brown Church in Iowa. During their married life they lived in Illinois, Iowa and then settled back in Wisconsin. Shirley always lived a simple life on her farm while enjoying her pets, which included a pet skunk and squirrel, but in later years just enjoyed her cats. Her greatest enjoyment was sitting at her kitchen table over a cup of coffee and a cigarette while visiting with friends, family and neighbors. Survivors include her sister, Mary Bowen of Tuscola IL; a sister-in-law, Sue Cudney of Muscoda, WI; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mildred; brother, George (Gert) Graham; sister, Sharon (Bill) Riley; brother, Michael (Verna) Cudney; brother, David Cudney; and a brother-in-law, Jim Bowen. Many thanks to Agrace Hospice for their wonderful end of life care. Upon Shirley’s request there will be no funeral services. George A. Rieder Jr., age 68, of Lone Rock passed away on August 5, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer at Agrace in Janesville, WI. He was born on May 14, 1953 in Madison, WI, the son of George A. and Virginia A. (Nellis) Rieder. He graduated from River Valley High School in 1972. George worked at American Players Theater in Spring Green for many years before retiring. George enjoyed fishing, boating, spending time with family and his one great love the Wisconsin River. He is survived by his six siblings, Barb (Dave) Dvorak of Richland Center, WI, Janice (Kenneth) Hornby of South St. Paul. MN, Kathy (fiance-Mark) Frawley of Northfield, MN, Jim (Deb) Rieder of Campbellsport, WI, Deb (Jody) Sorg of Hastings, MN, Pam (Ron) Runk of Ridgeway WI., and 14 nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Virginia Rieder and brother Jerry Rieder. Per George’s wishes, a private family memorial service will be held.
