OBITUARIES

DARLENE H. TORMEY

April 10, 2019 Darlene H. Tormey entered into eternal life on Wednesday, April 10, 2019. She was born April 11, 1928 to parents Otto and Mary Wolfe of rural La Farge. Darlene married Kenneth O. Frye on June 12, 1946. Together they farmed three different area farms and raised their four children. Kenneth passed away on September 30, 1961. Darlene and her children eventually moved to Richland Center where she began her retail career working as a seamstress and sales person for Hubert’s Men’s Store. Darlene married Leslie L. Tormey on June 20, 1967. Together they farmed at Blackhawk, WI. Eventually they moved back to Richland Center, continued working and both eventually retiring. Leslie passed away on January 3, 1988. Darlene worked at Schultz Bros. Company, the Thrift Shop as a manager, she was involved with the local Food Pantry, and she was a member of Park Street Christian Church and involved in their missionary circle. Darlene loved to sew and read. She was always sharing her life with her cat or dog. She loved to cook and hosted many family gatherings. Darlene is survived by three children: Leonard (Connie) Frye of Richland Center, WI, Carolyn Frye (Randy Thayer) of Middleton, WI, Michael Frye (Linda Symons) of Richland Center, WI; five grandchildren: Melanie (Mark) Harper, Michael (Tammy) Frye, Shara (Jesse) Dahlk, Kenneth (Angela) Frye, Seth Frye; five great grandchildren; one sister: Grace (Bill) Marshall of Viroqua, WI; brother in law: Ron (Marlene) Curtis of Viola, WI, daughter in law: Cheryl Frye; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Kenneth and Leslie, a son Larry, infant son Kenneth, three sisters, four brothers. Darlene’s Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, April 26, 2019 at the PARK STREET CHRISTIAN CHURCH, 148 South Park Street, Richland Center, WI 53581. Burial will be in the Viola Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday, April 26, 2019 from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:30 AM. The family suggests memorials in Darlene’s name be directed to the Park Street Christian Church Missionary Circle or to Pine Valley Community Village’s Activity Fund. MELVIN WAYNE DOSCH, SR.

April 12, 2019 Melvin Wayne Dosch, Sr., 91, of Richland Center, passed away April 12, 2019 at Pine Valley Community Village. Melvin was born in Orion Township to Verne and Alma (Epright) Dosch on December 5, 1927. Melvin was raised in Richland County, the youngest of 6 children. Melvin proudly served his country as a part of the U.S. Army, 11th Airborne Division. He was deployed to Japan after the peace treaty for WWll was signed as part of the reconstruction division and was honorably discharged. Upon returning home Melvin farmed in Richland County. Melvin e njoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors to enjoy the beauty of Mother Nature and traveling around the country. He lived and worked several places. He worked in a brass plating plant in Waterbury, CT; farmed in Richland County, WI; worked for a construction company in Madison running heavy equipment then began his own excavating company near Mazomanie and then moved it to Boaz. He was an excellent carpenter, helping to build and/or remodel many homes and for a few years owned a milk route. When Melvin retired, he moved to Chino Valley, AZ where he bought and remodeled a mobile home, sold that and then moved to Earlboro, OK where he bought property and rebuilt a home. Melvin suffered a stroke in 2010 and was moved to Pine Valley Community Village. While there, Melvin made many friends with the staff and gave them all an education in feeding the gophers. Melvin was married to Winifred L (Miller) Dosch and together they raised 8 children. Survivors include seven children: Allen (Zonita Battershell) Dosch of Surprise, AZ, Deborah Senn of Eden Prairie, MN, Monica (Jim) Deaver of Richland Center, WI, Lynette (Raymond) Lambert of Lansing, NY, Christine (Jarvis) Quenga of Citrus Heights, CA, Melvin Jr. (Jane) Dosch of Ridgeway, WI, John (Mary) Dosch of Wisconsin Dells, WI; 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, son Warren, ex-wife Winifred, 2 sisters Marguerite (Kenneth) Sumwalt and Mildred (Lloyd) Burns, 3 brothers Marvin (Barbara), Marion, and Melbourne (Loretta) Dosch. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff of Pine Valley Community Village for the excellent care given to Melvin during his years there. We

will be forever grateful to all the C.N.A’s and the nurses. Melvin loved and cared for all of you like you were his own family. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. The family suggest memorials in Melvin’s name be directed to Pine Valley Community Village or a charity of your choice. ELEANOR J. POOLE

April 14, 2019 Eleanor J. Poole, 98, of Richland Center, died on Sunday, April 14,2019 at Schmitt Woodland Hills in Richland Center. She was born in Richland Center on July 1, 1920 the daughter of Earl B. and Hazle L. (Richards) Poole. Eleanor graduated from Richland Center High School in 1938. After graduation she attended Madison Business College and graduated from the Accounting-Secretarial course in June of 1939. Eleanor worked at Burnham’s Drug Store (Empire Drug Store) from 1942 until 1950, Richland Co. Dept. of Social Services from 1950-1952, Edwards Clinic from 1952 – 1962, and the Richland Medical Center from 1962 – 1988 and part time after her retirement in 1988. Eleanor was a faithful member of the Park Street Christian Church, where she played the organ and recorded church attendance for many years. She was an EMT, a member of the Richland Historical Society, and a member of the Richland County Homemakers. Eleanor volunteered at various community events including the Blood Bank and the Get Real Program. When she wasn’t volunteering, she appreciated attending many events in the community. She enjoyed traveling including her many bus trips with the Homemakers group. Eleanor continued her education by taking night classes to learn to paint and to make wood carvings. Eleanor was an avid writer and loved to keep in touch with relatives by writing letter back and forth. She took joy in spending time with her family and friends. Eleanor is survived by her cousins: Everette Poole of Myrtle Beach, SC, John (Lynette) Richards of Ithaca, Orlen (Alice) Richards of Ithaca, and Paul (Barb) Denman of Sextonville; many other relatives and friends. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, many cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at the Pratt Memorial Chapel

with burial having followed in the Willow Valley Cemetery. Visitation was held at the Pratt Memorial Chapel on Thursday, April 18, 2019 from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM. April 17, 2019 Larry Machovec, 75, of Yuba died on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Harvest Guest Home. He was born on July 15, 1943 in Richland Center the son of Wesley and Velma (Shema) Machovec. Larry was united in marriage to Ann Frawley on March 17, 1973 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Larry farmed on the family farm. He enjoyed hunting, waterskiing, riding his Harley, and the Green Bay Packers. Larry is survived by his wife Ann; 3 children: Ed (Alana Murdock) Machovec of Reedsburg, Julie (John) Nath of Janesville, Dan (Sierra) Machovec of Richland Center; 5 grandchildren; Samantha Machovec, Jack, Jillian and Josie Nath, and Killian Machovec; 2 sisters: Mary Ann Dunn of New Lisbon, Elizabeth (John) Knauf of Stockbridge, brothers and sisters-in-law: Mary (LaVerne) Miller, Mike (Avis) Frawley, Patricia Luttig, Steve Frawley, Colleen Christensen, Mark (Jolene) Frawley, Philip Frawley, Jeff (Deann) Frawley, Robert Frawley, Kelly (Kris) Frawley, JoEllen Frawley; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Wesley and Velma, brothers Ronald and Edward Machovec, brothersin-law Vince Frawley and Richard Dunn, and sisterin-law Theresa Deckert. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Richland Center. A visitation was held at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church on Monday, April 22, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a rosary having been prayed at 4:00 PM. FLORENCE SHIELDS

April 17, 2019 Florence J. Shields age 94 of Melancthon Creek died on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Pine Valley Community Village. She was born in Melancthon Creek on the McCarthy/Escher farm on August 21, 1924 the daughter of Peter and Helen (McCarthy) Escher. She attended the Melancthon Creek Grade School, Richland Center High School, Richland County Normal School and the UW Platteville. Florence became a teacher at several local one room schools, being a teacher for 53 years. In 1946 she married Gerald Shields and they farmed on the Shields Homestead for many years before her son and daughter-in-law continued to farm and later grandsons. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and later St. Aloysius Church, St. Ann’s Altar Society, treasurer of St. Patrick’s Cemetery and a member of the Hillsboro Retired Teachers. Florence was co-author of 2 books on St. Patrick’s Melancthon Creek. Survivors include her son, Michael (Sharon), a grandson, Peter (Molly), 4 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Helen Escher, her husband, Gerald, grandson, Gerry, 4 sisters and a brother. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary the Assumption Catholic Church in Richland Center. Monsignor Roger Scheckel will officiate with burial in the St. Patrick’s in Catholic Cemetery Melancthon Creek at a later date. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at the Stafford Funeral Home from 4:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. with a rosary to be prayed at 3:30 P.M. MADALENE KELLER MCCAULEY

April 19, 2019 Madalene Keller McCauley, 93, of Richland Center, died Friday, April 19, 2019 at Schmitt Woodland Hills. She was born on November 28, 1925 in Orion the daughter of Ed and Ada (Emshoff) Keller. Madalene graduated from the Richland Center High School in 1943. On February 24, 1945, Madalene was united in marriage to Roland McCauley, the son of Roy and Lavilla (Baxter) McCauley at the Ash Creek Methodist Church. She was an office manager at Sears for several years and manager of Equity Livestock for 28 years. Madalene and her husband Rol farmed for many years and sold their original farm to Richland County and that is where the UW Richland is currently located. The couple bought a farm in Ash Creek and later moved to the city of Richland Center in 1979. Madalene retired from Equity and enjoyed doing many different volunteer jobs such as: working for the Hospital Auxiliary, working at the Thrift Shop, and helping with Walk for GRACE. Madalene is survived by her son: Lonnie (Dianna Steiner) McCauley of North Port, FL; 3 grandchildren: Aaron (Molly) McCauley of Eagan, MN, Seth (Erin Marie) McCauley of Stillwater, MN, Michelle Bristol of Richland Center, WI; 7 great-grandchildren: Connor Kilkelly, Liam Kilkelly, Eloise McCauley, Smith McCauley, Teagan McCauley, Ashlan McCauley, and Cody LeVake; 4 greatgreat-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Madalene was preceded by her parents, husband Roland, sister Freda Jones, brothers Lester Keller, Theron Keller, Melvin ‘Bud’ Keller and Virgil Keller. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 26, 2019 at the Pratt Memorial Chapel in Richland Center at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Richland Center Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the Pratt Memorial Chapel from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again on Friday from 12:00 PM until the time of the service at 1:00 PM. The family requests memorials in Madalene’s name be directed to Schmitt Woodland Hills or the Peace United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Schmitt Woodland Hills for the wonderful care they provided during the last few years while Madalene resided at Schmitt.
