RAY H. SCHROEDER
July 14, 2020 Ray H. Schroeder of Richland Center, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 14 surrounded by his family. He was born on June 17, 1925 in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. Son of William and Amanda Schroeder. Ray graduated from Wonewoc High School. Upon graduation, Ray entered the Merchant Marine Corp stationed on the Great Lakes. While in the Merchant Marine, Ray sang in the Great Lakes Naval Choir. When he returned, he
attended and graduated from the University of Wisconsin Radio School. Ray served his country during WWII as a Radio Man in the Navy from 1942-1945. In October of 2015 Ray was honored for his service to his country with a trip to Washington DC as a part of the Badger Honor Flight. Upon his return to the states Ray met the love of his life, Harriet while both worked at Badger Ordinance in Baraboo. Ray and Harriet were married on May 15, 1954 in North Freedom, Wisconsin. They enjoyed 66 years together filled with love and happiness. Ray began a lengthy career with the Department of Motor Vehicles as a driver’s license examiner in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1958. In 1962 Ray and his family moved to Richland Center to be closer to family and friends. In addition to his career with the DMV he embarked on a 55 year career as a part time high school sports broadcaster and radio show host with WRCO Radio. Ray was the radio voice for River Valley Blackhawks and Richland Center Hornets foot-
ball and basketball games. He was best known for his popular Saturday Big Band Radio Show “Reminiscing with Ray”. Ray was involved in his community as a member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church where he sang as a tenor in the choir for 46 years. He served on the Richland County Highway Safety Commission and was a poll worker for many years. Ray served on the Richland Center Police Commission until the time of his death. In addition to his life long love of music, Ray was a proud member of the Backroad Express Riders for 30 years. Ray was a huge Wisconsin sports fan, and he loved following his Packers, Badgers and Brewers. Family meant the world to Ray. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ray was known for his sense of humor, he loved making people laugh. Ray is survived by his wife, Harriet; children: Mark (Connie) Schroeder, Lisa (Brian) Tennant; grandchildren: Emily Schroeder, Maria Tennant, Evelyn Tennant, Amanda
(Sven) Binder, Ashley (Paul) Krumenauer, Mike (Victoria) Meyer; great grandchildren: Athena Clemente, Liam and Alaina Binder, Adeline Krumenauer. He is further survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Ray was preceded in death by his son Kent and other relatives and friends. A public visitation will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at the Pratt Memorial Chapel from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. The family requests that everyone in attendance practice social distancing and wear a mask. A private funeral service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Richland Center. A livestream will be available for the public on the Pratt Funeral Service Facebook page on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at 2:00 PM. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with their arrangements. Prattfuneralservice.com. The family would like to thank Agrace Hospice Services staff for their compassionate care. Memorials will be established in Ray’s name.
