MILFORD RUSSELL SHANNON
May 22, 2020 Milford Russell Shannon, more commonly known as Russell, 84, went to be in the arms of the Lord on Friday, May 22, 2020 following a long battle with heart disease. Russell will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Sally, and four children Michael, Kathleen, Daniel, and Marjory. Russell was born in Richland Center on September 14, 1935, the son of Milford LeRoy and Dorothy (Farley) Shannon. After graduating from Richland Center High School, he joined the United States Army, serving in Korea as MP Specialist Second Class from 1953 to 1956. Russell married Sally Denman on August 2, 1958 and together they raised four children in the Dayton Ridge area. He was a farmer, a carpenter by trade, and an avid outdoorsman. He devoted his time to his family, church, and neighbors. He loved his family and was always there for them. Any time he was called, he was there to lend a helping hand. Russell could build or fix anything, from buildings to machinery and everything in between. He was a talented woodworker and created keepsakes like dollhouses for the granddaughters and barns for the grandsons. He believed a job well done was done with precision and integrity, a lesson he passed on to his children and grandchildren. Russell was occasionally a man of few words, other times he was a man abundant with words. Whether it was in person or over the telephone, he loved a good conversation, many of which were with family and friends at family gatherings. Russell always had a lesson or a story, not many did you hear twice. Traditions were especially valued in the Shannon household, from holidays to birthday parties alike. Russell was a very knowledgeable man, mostly selftaught through his endless reading and life experiences. He loved and had a great appreciation for the outdoors. When he wasn’t working, you could find him in the woods, hunting, cutting wood, camp-
ing with family and friends, on the lake catching supper, or reading in his chair. Russell was a man of God. He had his own special bond with each one of us, all in different ways. Although his old rocker will sit empty, we will always remember his kind soul. He will be truly missed. Survivors include his wife of 62 years Sally Shannon, four children Michael Shannon, Kathleen (Steve) Dobbs, Daniel (Cheryl) Shannon, and Marjory (Dan) Willis; nine grandchildren Mary Shannon (John Pickarts), Jeffrey Shannon, Stephanie (Brady) Nelson, Jordan Dobbs (Roxie Thompson), Jared Dobbs, Ashley (James) Jilek, Adam Shannon, Cody (Courtney) Willis, and Sawyer Willis; six great grandchildren Melanie Shannon, Ava Jilek, Adelaide Pickarts, Helana Shannon, Maisyn Willis and Isaac Russell Willis; two sisters Virginia Bruckner and Patricia Burkhamer; brother-in-law Jack Denman; sisters-in-law Susan (Maramon) Keehn and Jane (Steve) King; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents M. LeRoy and Dorothy Shannon; mother-in-law Marjorie Denman; father-inlaw Gerald Denman; brothers-in-law Carl Bruckner and Duane Burkhamer. HOWARD B. MORRIS
May 25, 2020 Howard B. Morris, 95, of Gotham, died Monday, May 25, 2020 at Pine Valley Community Village. He was born on January 15, 1925 in Richland County the son of Bernie and Alice (Wilson) Morris. On September 10, 1946 Howard was united in marriage to Bernita L. Sneath in Dubuque, Iowa. Howard worked as a carpenter for Madsen Construction for over 50 years. He enjoyed being outdoors: hunting, fishing, camping and birdwatching. Howard is survived by his wife of 73 years Bernita; 4 sons: Ron (LaDon) Morris of Gotham, Don (Millie) Morris of Gotham, Larry (Joan) Morris of Gotham, Kurt Morris of Viola; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; Sister: Waneta (Darrel) Persinger of Richland Center; Brother-inlaw: Bob Simpson of Gotham; Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Howard was preceded in death by parents, step-mother Minnie, two sons James and Steven, granddaughter Shana Morris, brother Harold Morris, sister
Lorraine Simpson, and sister-in-law Charlotte Morris. Funeral service was held on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Pratt Memorial Chapel with burial having followed in the Button Cemetery. Visitation was held on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at the Pratt Memorial Chapel from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM. CLAYTON K. HANSON
May 25, 2020 Clayton K. Hanson, 60, of Richland Center, died Monday, May 25, 2020 at the Richland Center Hospital. He was born in Vernon County on October 28, 1959 the son of Orie K. and Coral M. (Revels) Hanson. After high school he served in the United States Army. Upon his return he had many different jobs before working at the Richland Foundry until he left because of health issues. Clayton enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, and spending time with his family. He loved grilling out for his family and especially making mac and cheese with bacon for Aydin. Clayton is survived by his wife Sally, children: Jeremy (Alaina) Hanson, Shantel Hanson, Kevin Hanson; step children: Kyle Mitchell, Kaitlyn (Chris Conner) Mitchell, Karson (Molly) Westedt; grandchildren: Gracie, Christopher, Aydin, Finleigh; sister: Margie (Floyd) Piepenhagen, Caroline (John) Andren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Clayton was preceded in death by his parents, son Bryden, sister Shirley (Harold) McGill, Kay (Richard) Balstad, Lois (Roger) Bjerkaas, and niece Lisa Balstad. Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at the Pratt Memorial Chapel. Military honors will be provided by the Local Veterans Military Memorial Honors Unit. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be directed to the family. May 26, 2020 Lewis James Bethke, 91, of Richland Center died
Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at his home. He was born on September 11, 1928 in Richland Center the son of Avolt and Beulah (Sharp) Bethke. Jim graduated from Richland Center High School in 1946. He enlisted in the US Navy and served his country from 1946 until his Honorable Discharge in 1948. On October 19, 1949 he was united in marriage to Jeannine Weston. Jim enjoyed playing softball, bonfires, hunting, fishing, bowling, horseshoes, and taking trips to Northern Wisconsin. Jim is survived by his wife of 70 years Jeannine; 5 children: Sue (Jim) Glass of Lone Rock, Jim (Socorro) Bethke of Elgin, IL, Lisa (Tom) Gethings of Richland Center, Julie Bethke and Olaf Olson of Richland Center, Kim (Bill) Cory of Richland Center; 21 grand and step-grandchildren; 34 great-grand and step-great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grand and step-great-great-grandchildren; Sister-in-law: Judy Derse Bethke of Stoughton; Brother-in-law: Bill Weston of Muscoda; Special nephews: Denny Haug and Brent Harris; Many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters Marge Hamilton, Dennis ‘Bud’ Bethke, Mary Lou Haug, Sid Bethke, and Gary Bethke, and two step-grandchildren: Alex Martinez and Christopher Gethings. MICHAEL P. THOMPSON May 27, 2020
Michael P. Thompson, born August 24th, 1950 in Chippewa Falls passed away Wednesday, May 27th, 2020 at Mile Bluff Medical Center, at the age of 69. Mike was a graduate of Richland Center High School, Class of 1968, where he made his name playing baseball and pulling pranks. That witty sense of humor would follow (or lead) him through every part of his life. He proudly served our country in the United States Army, where he was based in Germany until his Honorable Discharge in 1971. After inheriting his father’s strong work ethic and business skills, he boasted a successful career predominantly in retail and sales, and has since passed along that gene to his two children that always made him so proud. He spent many years vacationing in nostalgic Hatfield with family and close friends, leaving behind wonderful and comical memories to last us all a lifetime. Mike loved all things sports, from playing
to coaching to watching, and he always stayed loyal to his Brewers, Packers, and Badgers. His commentary before, during, and after each game will be forever missed. And his laughter will never be forgotten. Mike was survived by his father, Everett “Bud” Thompson of Richland Center; 2 children, Josh (Renza) Thompson of Shawano and Heather Thompson of Oakland, California; 2 sisters, Kathy McCumber and Laurie Thompson, both of Richland Center; 3 grandchildren, Payten Thompson, Jorden Thompson, and Teagen Thompson, all of Shawano; 3 step-grandchildren, Happie Anthony, Reef Anthony, and Morgan Anthony, all of Shawano; 1 niece, Tiffany (Will) Wanless of Amherst, Virginia; and 1 grand-nephew, Jon Carrasquillo of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his loving mother and biggest fan, Marian “Peggy” Thompson; nephew, Jon Roh; 1 grand-nephew, Ian Townsend; 1 brother-in-law, Jerry McCumber; and many pets that he always loved like the rest of his family. May 29, 2020 Richard S. Ziaja, 82, of Lone Rock died Friday, May 29, 2020. He was born on June 9, 1937 in Chicago the son of Joseph and Aniela (Ziaja). Richard was in the US Navy for 2 years. On April 15, 1961, Richard was united in marriage to Melanie Zydlo in Chicago. He worked as a Union Local 194 Painter on the North Shore of Chicago for 40 years and upon his retirement Richard and Melanie moved to Lone Rock. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and puzzles. Richard is survived by his wife of 59 years Melanie, 5 children: Tim (friend Lynn) Ziaja of Minneapolis, MN, Tammy (Mark) Flynn of Chicago, IL, Tom (Beth) Ziaja of Chicago, IL, Ted Ziaja of Minneapolis, MN, Todd (Erin) Ziaja, Austin, TX; 10 Grandchildren: Taylor, Emmett, Lily, Kayley, Rachel, Connor, Gigi, Aiden, Kevin, Ryan; Many other relatives and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and 6 brothers and sister. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church with burial to follow in the Button Cemetery. ROBERT “BOB” SALZER May 29, 2020 Robert “Bob” Salzer died at home on May 29, 2020, surrounded by people who loved him. He was born in Milwaukee, WI, on August 22, 1947, to Robert and Shirley Salzer. After residing at Southern Wisconsin Center for over 35 years, he moved to Valley View Home in rural Richland County in 1997. Bob was a very social man who never forgot a face. He was able to find pleasure in the little things in life but trucks were his passion. He loved looking at truck pictures and magazines, drawing trucks, watching trucking shows, or just sitting along a highway watching trucks roll by. Bob is survived by his adult family home providers Ed, Colleen, and Leah Uhlenhake, his “granddaughter” Sloane, his loving care staff, his housemates, special friends Dave and Anita Walker and Lina Palionis, his guardian Dick Pavlak, and many community friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Tim. Wispy trails of diesel smoke; An air horn’s solemn groan, No smokies in the mirror; the Kenworth brings Bob home. His radio is silent; the trucker’s done his job. His log book sits upon the seat that rode those miles with Bob. Gear jamming was his music and motels were his life. May 17, 2020 Marybel Rego, age 92, of Loyd, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2020. She was born on August 23, 1927 in Richland Center, WI, the daughter of Albert and Mary (Shannon) Lyman. On May 1, 1947 she was united in marriage to William F. Rego at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Germantown. This marriage was blessed with nine children. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Germantown. Marybel was a great storyteller, and family was everything to her.
