The Oregon school board is returning to a traditional committee structure to help members better understand issues they’ll vote on. After going without traditional committees in favor of a “committee of the whole” model since last April, board members voted unanimously Monday night to have president Steve Zach appoint chairs

for the reinstated policy and visioning committees. It will meet in a committee of the whole format – a Zach less formal meeting of the entire board – as necessary. The board moved to the committee of the whole structure, what was typically called “retreats,” to reduce the number of meetings and time spent bringing board members up to speed on committee discussions they weren’t a part of. Board OK’s Highlands of Netherwood Park plans

The park at the new Highlands of Netherwood subdivision will include a multi-use athletic field, paved multi-use path, playground, shade structure and a pavilion. The project, which is expected to

be located at the southwest corner of Peterson Trail and West Netherwood Road. The Highlands of Netherwood subdivision is a 74-acre development with 125 single-family homes, 14 townhomes and 25 single-family detached condominium units. It’s located between County Highway CC and West Netherwood Road to the west of Bergamont Boulevard. Neighborhood plans feature a coving concept with curved roads

After 27 years of coordinating activities for the Oregon Area Senior Center Adult Day program, Bonnie Haugen retired as of Jan. 31.

To celebrate, senior center staff will hold a retirement party for Haugen from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 219 Park St. Haugen told the Observer she plans to still volunteer at the senior center from time to time, and even engage in its many activities – from the exercise classes to informational meetings.
