Cold sores are actually not related to colds or fevers but can be triggered by any illness, fatigue, stress, sun or wind exposure. A. This is a scenario that occurs often and usually is tolerated well by the child. There are many benefits of participating in multiple sports and the increased amount of exercise is good for the child, but one must keep the following thoughts in mind. As a child grows and the body’s tissues develop, stress and strain to the growth plates of long bones, muscle and soft-tissue injuries, and over-use injuries are common and can contribute to chronic injury and pain. At that time there was less than 2 months’ worth of housing inventory just about everywhere in Dane County, and there were multiple offers on just about every house. Currently we have about 3.5 months of inventory available. This means we’re currently in a more neutral market, but it’s still generally considered a seller’s market. It’s hard to tell if this is just the typical seasonal slowdown (the number of buyers tends to taper off once kids are back in school), or if this is a sign of a shift Keith & Kinsey Schulz in market cycles. When you look at price ranges, it turns out there is 4.7 months of inventory in the $300,000+ price range and only 2 months of inventory in the under $300,000 range. Q. Should my dog eat a grain-free diet? A. Grain-free diets have been popular for some time now, however, a recent increase in heart disease in
dogs eating certain types of diets may give some concern that diet could play a role in causing heart disease. There are many myths and misperceptions about diet and owners are often very confused when choosing a healthy diet for their dog. A condition called dilated cardiomyopathy has been caused by taurine deficiency in some cats, which is why standard cat foods are supplemented with taurine. Recent theories and research suggest that the up-tick in cases of DCM in dogs may be due to taurine deficiency in the grain-free diets that seem to be so popular. Many pet owners have, unfortunately, bought into the grain-free myth. The fact is that food allergies are very Brian Hoelscher uncommon, so there’s no benefit of feeding pet foods containing exotic ingredients. While grains have been D.V.M. accused on the internet of causing nearly every disease known to dogs, grains do not contribute to health problems and are used in pet food as a nutritious source of protein, vitamins, and minerals. There have been a few studies that suggest that exotic proteins such as kangaroo meat may be to blame as well. There is still much we don’t know about the link between grain-free diets and heart disease in dogs. Our strongest recommendation at this time is that unless specifically recommended by your veterinarian, there is no benefit to feeding grain-free diets to your dog. High quality grain-inclusive diets are widely available and will provide all the nutrients your dog needs to stay active and healthy.
