Q. My cat is urinating outside of the litterbox, what should I do?
A. Cats may urinate outside the litterbox for a variety of reasons but it may be indicative of underlying health issues. Always start with a thorough veterinary medical exam. Urinary tract infections are a common cause of changes in litter box behavior. Maintaining clean litter boxes is essential, and location matters. A general rule of thumb is to have one box on each floor of the house with the total number of boxes in the house equaling one more than the total number of cats. Unscented litter is very important and daily cleaning of all boxes must be done. There are several products on the market such as Cat Attract litter or Feliway pheromones that may help. If the problem persists, your veterinarian may prescribe medications that assist in the reestablishment of good litter box habits.

I have heard that dogs are like wolves. Is that correct?
A. If we go far enough back in evolution wolves and dogs are distantly related. Current theory suggests modern wolves descended from an extinct ancient species and that dogs evolved from that branch. Recent research has shown that modern dogs lived among Homo Sapiens 32,000 years ago, so the evolutionary split between wolf and dog preceded that. The domestication process has changed the nature of dogs considerably from that of wolves. Confusion about wolf and dog behavior began decades ago due to misunderstanding a study of captive (unrelated) wolves. Faulty assumptions about dog behavior resulted in the notion that dogs struggle with us for dominance and must be kept in check by humans. This has been thoroughly debunked by science, yet it remains in popular culture. Today, wolves and dogs are distinct species. Wolves are true pack animals who hunt together, raise each other’s young and typically form around an extended family. There is no dominance struggle or conflict within the pack. Wolf pups play, but adults do not. Dogs are opportunistic scavengers, not pack animals. They form loose social bonds and often play into adulthood.

The Town of Pleasant springs has an immediate opening for a Deputy Clerk/Treasurer-Finance Accountant. This position is currently a 30-hour position with hours of Monday through Thursday and Fridays off. The current wage for this position is $21.63 dependent upon knowledge and experience. The purpose of this position is to provide statutory support and assistance to the Clerk/Treasurer, Town Board, and Plan Commission as needed, by performing various tasks, to include municipal accounting tasks, bank reconciliation, journal entry prep and posting, accounts receivable and accounts payable, assisting with administering elections and knowledge of the WisVote election administration system, municipal licensing, preparing minutes and agendas, record keeping, staff support to the Plan Commission, friendly customer service and support to include residents, Town Board, and Plan Commission. This position is fast paced and performs a variety of accounting, tax collecting, and functions as required by state statutes of the Clerk’s and Treasurer’s office, administrative office support functions including front line interaction with residents and customers. Must have a friendly and professional attitude. This position requires attention to detail and the ability to multi-task along with quality customer service and team cooperation. Ability to work independently or in a team environment. The level of responsibility and hours may vary, especially during certain times of the year, for example, elections and tax time. The Deputy Clerk/Treasurer fills in for the Clerk/Treasurer in her absence.
