The 2019 Stoughton Conservation Ice Fisheree on Lake Kegonsa, again turned out to be another great event. The Board of Directors and its Fisheree Committee would like to thank all of its sponsors, local businesses and members for their generosity, donations and support. It was a close call if the fishing contest would even take place this year due to ice conditions, as there were areas that seemed to be in question of its safety. With that being a concern, a few committee members investigated the lake just days before the event, we determined the cold weather did provide us with the ice thickness needed to continue. The walleye in the photo was released and tagged for the Bounty Hunt and was worth $10,000.00 if caught during the event. It was not caught and is swimming freely and will continue to be worth $100.00 if caught in the 2019 fishing season. The cold weather did slow down a lot of people from fishing, but fish were caught and registered. Thanks to Springers, the kids’ games were held indoors to keep the kids safe from the bitter cold. Clenching and grinding is such a common stress response that many dentists work with their patients to teach relaxation techniques. Here’s a simple one. Take a deep breath, run your fingers down both sides of your face, and then take another deep breath. This technique helps your body learn to relax and helps your facial muscles relax. Here’s another tip. Ask your dentist about a night guard. While this will not stop you from clenching and grinding, it will preserve your teeth. Another option is Botox. Really. Botox works to calm your jaw muscles and reduce clenching and grinding. Many dentists are trained to administer Botox, which is typically given every 3-4 months. This option has worked especially well for our patients who clench and grind and want to protect their teeth and dental work.

Barring any medication or physical issues that might prevent you from losing weight; it might be your fitness tracker that’s the issue. Fitness DC, CCEP BCMT, CSCS trackers are a fine tool for tracking activity, but are completely inaccurate at calculating the calories you’re burning, even worse, they often over estimate totals. Once you have your true daily number of calories consumed you can start to make changes to the diet. Keep working out, it’s good for just about everything, but remember that no amount of exercise can combat a bad diet, just eliminating one soda is about the same as going for a 30 minute run. Depression (major depressive disorder or clinical depression) is, by definition, a medical illness characterized by a chronic sense of sadness and loss of interest in activities. Depression can often dictate the way in which you feel, think, and act – and if not treated, it can lead to everything from alcohol and drug abuse to attempted suicide. It’s estimated that 350 million people worldwide suffer from depression. More than two million adults 65 years of age and older are faced with depression of some kind. Signs of depression are easy to overlook in older adults, as they’re often mistaken for other signs of aging. Studies show that when depressed, seniors may not clearly display typical signs of sadness such as crying. Instead, they tend to withdraw from the people they care about and the things they once loved to do. Signs to watch for: Irritability, withdraw, decrease in cognitive ability, increased pain and digestive problems. If you recognize any of these signs in your senior loved one, talk to him or her about what he or she is feeling. Although you may receive some resistance initially, it’s important to let him or her know that you’re there to help. From there, it’s vital that you inform his or her primary health care provider or mental health expert to have symptoms assessed professionally.
