A. Diabetic pets lack insulin in their bodies. Insulin is an important hormone that
helps glucose and other nutrients enter the cells; with low insulin, glucose builds up outside of the cells, causing increased thirst and urination, and weight loss. It is a serious health issue that can be treated with insulin injections. One of the challenges of treating a pet with insulin is determining if the injection is properly controlling glucose levels. Recently, we have started to use a human sensor Dr. Barney Smith called a Freestyle Libre to monitor the glucose levels of cats and dogs in response to insulin. The sensor is the size of 2 stacked quarters, it sticks to the skin, and is well tolerated by most pets. This system has many advantages for the pet, the owner, and for the veterinarian. It allows us to clearly see response to insulin for a pet in the home setting, without the owner needing to take blood samples. This story is an example of how veterinarians have adapted technology to make life better for everyone!

We’ll continue to see multiple offers on properly priced homes, especially in the under $375,000 price range; this is likely to continue driving prices up. The upper price ranges may be a little bit calmer, but still strong.
