Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums Receives a Mini-Grant From the Wisconsin Historical Society
The Wisconsin Historical Society and Wisconsin Council for Local History are pleased to announce that 18 affiliated local historical societies received a total of $10,125.00 through the 2019 mini-grant program. The Wisconsin Historical Foundation and the Wisconsin Council for Local History provide funding for the mini-grant program. The Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums has received a minigrant to support its ongoing collections care project. This year’s affiliate mini-grant program focused on projects and activities that strengthen a local organization's ability to preserve historical collections and manage those collections and other resources. The projects supported in part by the mini-grant program are an important part of the work done by local organizations to help collect and preserve our state's history at the community level. The Wisconsin Historical Society's Field Services Program provides support and educational opportunities to local history groups throughout the state. The Wisconsin Historical Society also partners with the Wisconsin Council for Local History, a non-profit organization consisting of all historical organizations affiliated with the State Society that promotes communication and cooperation among local history groups. Mineral Point Therapy Center to Open in August
Offering Physical, Occupational, Speech and Aquatic Therapy Getting better and growing stronger is about to become a little easier. Patients who need physical, occupational or speech therapy will soon have a new choice. The Upland Hills Health Mineral Point Therapy Center will open to patients in August. Shortly after, the center will begin offering aquatic therapy using the Hydroworx 2000 therapy pool. A public Ribbon Cutting will be held Monday, August 5 at noon. An Open House will be held from 4-7 p.m. the same day. The Mineral Point Therapy Center is located at 1050 Branger Drive in Mineral Point. Meet the therapists who will work with patients in Mineral Point, learn about the pool and enjoy light refreshments. “Providing therapies in Mineral Point is an opportunity to create easier access for patients in all of southwest Wisconsin, so they may receive rehabilitative care closer to home. We are very excited to bring aquatic therapy to Mineral Point. This service isn’t offered within a 40-mile radius. It is state-of-the-art, and best of all, it may allow patients who haven’t been able to benefit fully from land therapy another option to find success,” explained Krisann Karls, director of therapy services at Upland Hills Health. Exercising in water helps patients get stronger, relieve pain, improve balance and decrease risk of falls. People of all ages may benefit from aquatic therapy, especially if experiencing the following: • Difficulty walking • Inability to stand on one leg • Weakness: difficulty getting up from chairs, going up and down stairs or needing to take one stair at a time • Pain: too much pain using land-based therapy or exercise The Hydroworx 2000 pool is the same model used by many professional and college sports teams. The pool is a “zero entry” pool, meaning the floor of the pool (which is also a treadmill) raises and lowers so that patients can walk directly from the pool deck on to the pool floor and be comfortably lowered into the water. The pool is equipped with underwater cameras and the water will be kept at a comfortable 92 degree temperature. When the pool is not being used for therapy, it will be open to the public for walking. Walkers will need their doctor to fill out an authorization form. Walkers must also undergo a brief evaluation to determine treadmill speed and tolerance to walking in the pool. There will be a fee to use the pool as a walker (to be announced). To schedule an evaluation to be added as a walker when the pool opens, please call the Therapy and Wellness Center at 608.930.7147.
