New bike rack to be installed along PCA trail PLATTEVILLE – The Platteville Community Arboretum welcomes a new addition of an artistic bike rack donated by Jeff Baker of Baker Iron Works. The functional art piece featuring two pickaxes surrounding a large ‘M’ is a replica of a bike rack located on Main Street. This new bike rack will soon be placed at the David Canny Rountree Branch Trail eastside trailhead, located behind Menard’s, overlooking the World’s Largest ‘M’ on Platte Mound. “The PCA appreciates the generosity and talents of Jeff Baker,” Bob Hundhausen, PCA President, said. “The bike rack will look fantastic with the World’s Largest ‘M’ in the background.” The trail features four other bike racks: two stick family bike racks at the trailhead entrance near Delta 3 Engineering, an eyeglass bike rack near Country Kitchen to honor optometrist David Canny and a trout bike rack near the Rural Excavating railroad bridge. The Rountree Branch Trail is a pedestrian and bicycle trail that stretches from UW-Platteville to the PlattevilleBelmont Trail, paralleling the Rountree Branch stream and Business Hwy 151 for most of its 3-mile length. Approximately 125-150 people use the trail every day. Anyone looking to donate, join or volunteer can do so via the website www.plattevillearboretum.org or e-mail plattevillearboretum@gmail.com. The Platteville Community Arboretum was founded in 2004. Since the 2016 grand opening of the new paved and lighted 3-mile trail, PCA has organized 100 volunteers, half of which work two hours each week on the trail, removing mountains of invasive plants, installing benches, picnic tables, garden plots, and more. PCA also continues to plant at least 25 trees each year. They are supported by a wonderful community of financial contributors. adno=158538
