I decided to come to Rosemeyer Jones Chiropractic after numerous times at other health care providers without any results. After his time in the military, he came back and worked for the government for a time, working near the Pentagon. He worked for Verizon as an area manager for 10 years. He then opened his own business. B ut working at his own business, he became b ored and he didn’t feel challenged. He remembered what he wanted to do when he was younger so he went back to medical college at age 41. “I feel that when you go into medicine when you a re older, it has to have a meaning. I always wanted to do it.” He did his residency and worked for a couple

years after that in Virginia where he lived with his family, wife Ana, and children Nicole and Nicolas Jr., now 27 and 24, respectively. H e always knew he wanted to work in rural medicine. It was something he and his wife, who i s also a certified medical assistant, had discussed. A s a medical student, he began researching into rural medicine throughout the United States. He looked up information on the National Rural Recruitment and Retention Network that helps health professionals search for jobs in rural or underserved areas with health care facilities. “When it came time to look for a place, I wanted to go to a place with a real need. I didn’t just want to be a number. I wanted to be part of a community.” In Virginia where he lived, there was not much need. Dr. Castillo looked at Oklahoma and Texas. When it came to Wisconsin, there were over 128 positions open. He called the Office of Rural Health in Wisconsin and talked with provider recruitment manager Tim Dybevik. Dybevik was “fantastic and very welcoming” Castillo said and asked Castillo what he was looking for. “I dreamed of having a log cabin home up on a hill overlooking a river. I really like to fish so I’d like to be close to a body of water or a river and maybe in the future I’d like to put up a vineyard. He said he would try and get me that.” Castillo and his wife recently purchased a home j ust outside of Darlington and even though it

isn’t a log cabin home, it does have the river he was looking for. Since he started in November, he and his wife have enjoyed their time here. Ana also works at the hospital and in the clinics. “ Everybody is super welcoming. The area is beautiful. People have been super nice.” C astillo says that even though the hospital is small, people don’t realize that there are a lot of capabilities that MHLC has that belong in a hospital much bigger than it is. “People are very fortunate to have this organization here. I came from a big hospital in Virginia a nd I also volunteered in the past at a critical access hospital like this. They didn’t have half of the capabilities that this hospital has. It is very n eat to see that and the commitment that everyone has to the community here.” He loves being able to take his time getting to see patients and learning more about them. “ I learned a long time ago a patient is much more than just medications and an illness; they a re a whole person and you need to find out what is going on, whether it is at home, work. There are a lot of aspects that affects the health of an individual. At the same time the doctor is not just there to give more years to someone, or help them get more years, but to make those years quality years.” Dr. Castillo will be working primarily at the Darlington Primary Care Clinic and sees patients of all ages.

There truly is brightness and hope during these pandemic times. If you haven’t done so, please drive by Legion Park and take a look at the nearly completed Broske Center. And, if that drive is late in the evening, you’ll have an extraspecial treat – the lighted cupolas. The project to replace the 1930s 2,500 square foot ‘art hall’ began in late 2018. There was consensus that a larger facility (6,500 square feet), usable year-round (in-floor heat and air conditioning plus insulated overhead doors on each end), divisible into 2 halls (each about 3,000 square feet), with a kitchen/food prep area, restrooms and an outdoor patio would serve this community for at least the next 75 years. If you have not done so, check out the City of Platteville, Wisconsin; Inspiring Community Inc; Eastman Cartwright Platteville; and/or My Hearing Loop Facebook pages. You’ll find lots of photos – of the inside and the outside of the Broske Center. The total cost of the Broske Center and its amenities in just over $1.1M. Sheri Engelke, chair of the event center committee, noted “The monies for this AMAZING facility have been donated by our community. To date, nearly 400 individuals, families, businesses, and organizations have invested in making the Broske Center a reality. We are on the final leg of this journey with ‘finishing touches’ being attended to on a daily basis. In fact, this week we installed the signs honoring major donors Bob & Barry Brodbeck; the Reeves Family & Friends; and Inspiring Community. These signs are a tribute not only to these donors but to the past, as the mounting boards are pieces of the former ‘art hall.’” Continuing Engelke noted, “We are incredibly appreciative of the investments so many have made in the Broske Center. We continue to receive monies, nearly on a daily basis. We know that the donor recognition sunbursts, inside of the Broske Center, will include the names of at least 160 individuals, families, businesses and/or organizations who have contributed a minimum of $1000 to this project. All donors, regardless of amount donated, will be recognized on a kiosk located outside of the Center.”
