3/8'' Seam Allowance Alotted 2'' Measure line above to be sure scale is correct.
Fold the fabric with the wrong side of fabric facing each other. Place the paper template on fabric and pin in place. Cut the fabric out exactly along pattern edge (pattern allows for 3/8'' seam allowance). Once fabric is cut, remove paper pattern while still keeping fabric pieces together. With the with right sides still facing each other, sew the centerline (curved edge) of the face mask using 3/8'' seam allowance. Do the same with the lining of the face mask. Clip the seam allowance about ½'' apart along the curved edge, being careful to cut only to the stitch line and not through it. This will allow the fabric’s raw edge to stretch without pulling the seam when you turn it right side out. Repeat this process on both the outer layer and the inner layer of the mask. Turn the pieces right side out, press the seam allowance to one side, topstitch near the seam line. Repeat the same to the inner layer. Take the inner layer and measure in 1'' on each side and make a line with a temporary marker or tailor chalk (a white crayon will also work well). Using this line as a guide, fold the fabric along that line to the wrong side of the fabric and press. Repeat on the other side of inner layer. (line is marked on pattern piece) Fold the raw edge of inner layer to the press line and fold over again. Keeping all the layers folded, press again for a clean seam and topstitch to hold in place. Repeat on both sides of the inner layer. Place the inner layer on top of the outer layer, with the right side facing each other. Match up center seams of the top and bottom of the mask and pin to hold in place. Sew the top and bottom seam lines using the allotted 3/8” seam allowance. Clip the seam allowance about ½'' apart along the curved edge, being careful to cut only to the stitch line and not through it. Leave about ½'' from the ends un-clipped. Repeat on both the top and bottom of the mask. Turn the face mask right side out. Press seams flat. With the inner layer facing up, start at the raw edge and topstitch near the edge (about ¼'' or less). Repeat the same to the top and bottom seam line. To make the pocket for the elastic ear bands, fold the side raw edge ¼'' from the edge, then fold again so that the edge meets the edge of the inner layer. Press and then topstitch in place. Repeat on both sides of the mask. Measure and cut the length of the elastic band needed (usually around 6''-8'' depending on the size of the face). Insert the elastic band through the pocket and tie a dead knot to the ends. Repeat the same to the other side. Pull the elastic band until the knots are hidden in the pocket. Wear and breathe normally! Change often and launder after each use. *Disclaimer: this face mask is not meant to replace the surgical face mask.
