More than 350 people turned out for the 6th Annual Taste of Fennimore which has proven to be a great event for those suffering from cabin fever. The 2019 competition was extremely strong with a variety of 30 businesses offering their amazing local fare. As part of their ticket each person received a ballot to vote on their top three products in three categories. “Which is not an easy task to narrow down to only three” reported Promotions Coordinator, Linda Parrish. The Fennimore Area Chamber of Commerce (FACC) is pleased to announce the top vote getters. Top vote getter in the Peoples Choice Eatery was Tmothy’s Café, this category was for chamber member businesses who offer sit down dining. Timothy’s owner, Pam Manning is shown with chef Greg Adkins, they offered Timothy’s version of beef sliders smothered with onions and special seasoning.
Top vote getter for Peoples Regional Favorite beverage was Frank Beer Distributors who has a terminal in the Fennimore business park. They offered samples of some of their popular beverages including New Glarus Raspberry Tart, Leinie Orange Shandy, White Claw Mango Taste 2019 Peoples Choice and New Glarus Cabin Fever just to Food - Steve Schulte name a few. Accepting the award Valley Fudge & Candy from Frank Distributors employees are L to R Willie Kuehni, Mitch Cooley and JJ Callahan. The top vote getters for People’s Choice Regional food was Valley Fudge and Candy Company with a store in Coon Valley who offers their products at Carr Valley Cheese. More than a dozen different flavors of fudge were offered ranging from chocolate, chocolate mint to one of their new flavors of chocolate amaretto. Steve Schulte, one of the owners, is shown accepting the award. The FACC Taste committee members would like to thank everyone who helped to make this Chamber fundraiser a huge great success. From sponsors to all of the vendors who brought an array of different types of food and beverages. We could not have done this without such great teamwork. Proceeds from Taste are used to help support community activities like Fun Fest and promotion of the community and businesses in local and regional promotional materials.

Legion Park Event Center Update Thanks to the many who have embraced this project to bring a climate-controlled, year-round space for family reunions, birthday and graduation parties, weddings, business meetings, corporate parties, auctions, community festivals, and other events to Legion Park in Platteville. Fundraising is going very well. Our goal for the base building is $600,000 and we have monies and/or pledges for approximately 75% of the goal. Sheri Engelke, chair of Legion Park Event Center Committee, shares, “The dedicated members of our event center team have been holding preliminary informational meetings with contractors as well as visiting contractor build sites, checking with past customers and reviewing initial quotes. From that effort, our team has identified two primary construction candidates. The requested design and specifications have been provided to these contractors; and our team will be meeting in the next couple of weeks to make a final selection of the contractor. Approximately 30 days after contractor selection, we will be inviting the public to join the contractor and our team for a complete review of the planned project.” It should be noted that the construction timetable now calls for a groundbreaking in association with 2019 Dairy Days Contributing to this decision: the many events held in Legion Park through the summer; the wettest fall (2018) in recent history; the snowiest winter some can remember with projections of flooding; the 6 to 8 week timetable to approve plans and $600K in committed funds prior to contract signing [NOTE: the sooner the contract is executed, the better. Steel and lumber prices (like gasoline) are increasing daily]. To paraphrase a much used quote, “Now is the time for all to come to the aid of our community.” Follow the great leadership shown by the volunteers leading this initiative and the many wonderful contributors. Join us now and be identified as a community collaborator. Donations of any size are important whether it is $10, $500, $2,500, $5,000 or more.
