The IRS is highlighting each of these scams on consecutive days to help raise awareness and protect taxpayers. The IRS also urges taxpayers to help protect themselves against phone scams and identity theft by reviewing safety tips prepared by the Security Summit, a collaborative effort between the IRS, states and the private-sector tax
Beginning early in the filing season, the IRS generally sees an upswing in scam phone calls threatening arrest, deportation or license revocation, if the victim doesn’t pay a bogus tax bill. These calls most often take the form of a “robo-call” (a text-to-speech recorded voicemail with instructions to call back a specific telephone number), but in some cases may be made by a real person. These con artists may have some of the taxpayer’s information, including their address, the last four digits of their Social Security number or other personal details. The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), the federal agency that investigates tax-related phone scams, says these types of scams have cost 14,700 victims a total of more than $72 million since October 2013

Phone scams again made the IRS’ Dirty Dozen list, an annual compilation of some of the schemes that threaten taxpayers not only during filing season but throughout the year.
“Taxpayers should be on the lookout for unexpected and aggressive phone calls purportedly coming from the IRS,” said IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig. “These calls can feature scam artists aggressively ordering immediate payment and making threats against a person. Don’t fall for these.”

Doctor Patient Relationship
Submitted by Upland Hills Health Center The doctor-patient relationship is the absolute cornerstone of patient care. In very simple terms, the medical interview includes gathering information, developing a treatment plan, and ensuring adherence to that plan. The doctorpatient relationship is a critical piece of every step of the process.
Step 1: Full Disclosure In the first part of a medical interview, the doctor
gathers information so that they can make a complete and accurate diagnosis. This requires full, active participation from the patient. If the relationship is not strong, he/she may withhold a key piece of information. It may be that the patient is embarrassed, anxious, nervous, or simply doesn’t trust his or her provider. For example, hepatitis C is a viral illness that effects the liver. It is passed from person to person through the blood, so is more common in IV drug users or former users. In recent years, treatments have become available that can completely cure this disease, preventing liver failure or liver cancer. If a patient does not tell his doctor that he used to use illegal drugs because of a poor doctor-patient relationship, a crucial screening test that could prevent cancer could be missed.

Step 2: We’re in this together! After the information has been
gathered, the doctor makes a diagnosis and develops a treatment plan with the patient. Once a diagnosis is established the treatment plan must be something acceptable to both the doctor and the patient — it is a shared decision. Without a good relationship, a poor decision about treatment can be made! For example, a complaint of chest pain is complicated and possibly represents a life threatening condition. Chest pain can be caused by bad heartburn, muscle pain, or, most notably, a heart attack. If a doctor doesn’t have a good relationship with a patient, he may assume that the patient’s symptoms aren’t severe or that the the risk of a heart attack is lower than it is. This could lead to a suggestion of an antacid or simple pain reliever when work up for a heart attack is needed.

What is the point of a plan if the patient is not willing to go through with it!? The doctor-patient relationship is critical in this step as well. If the patient does not trust the doctor, is not confident in the doctor’s skill, feels that they weren’t part of the decision, or if they are just unsure about the doctor, they are less likely to follow the treatment plan. Without a strong doctor-patient relationship, it can very difficult to care for patients. The doctor may have trouble gathering all the needed information during a visit. The doctor may also be less able to make an accurate diagnosis and well thought out treatment plan. Lastly, the doctor may be unable to “sell” the treatment plan to the patient. Good relationships aren’t only important in a person’s personal life, it could mean a real difference in your health. Introducing Dr. Ian Stormont, Urologist at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster Originally from Southwest Wisconsin, Dr. Ian Stormont graduated from University of Wisconsin – School of Medicine and Public Health, Madison and gained specialized training in residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center and now brought his expertise home to our region. His special interests include urinary problems, issues related to prostate enlargement, erectile dysfunction or ED, kidney stones, low testosterone, and urologic cancers. Most of these issues can be addressed without surgical intervention. If treatment progresses to surgery, Dr. Stormont provides the most up-to-date minimally invasive treatment options. Urologist Dr. Ian Stormont joined Grant Regional in August last year and has helped turn this new focus to men’s health with the wide array of treatments and procedures that he has brought to our region. Grant Regional Health Center is setting its sights on creating new awareness of men’s health by encouraging preventative checkups with a new comfort level in talking to your provider. Dr. Michael Bottrell grew up in Platteville, WI , graduating from PHS in 1974. He enlisted in the US Navy as a dental technician and attended UW-Platteville for his undergraduate degree, In 1983, he graduated from the University of Washington School of Dentistry in Seattle. Since then, he and his wife, Kathy, have practiced dentistry and raised their three children in Platteville. Dr. Bottrell loves the art and science of restoring teeth to their most beautiful form and function. He engages in a wide variety of recrational activities, including shooting, Gracie Jiu Jitsu and trying to keep up with his grandchildren. Dr. Bottrell earned his Master Fitness Trainer certificate from the National Federation of Professional Trainers in 2018. When he is not doing dentistry he is thrilled to see clients achieve higher levels of fitness but is most passionate about his training to decrease violence against women.

The Bloomington Area Sportsmen's Club will present tips for archery skills before the spring 3-D archery shoots, and the spring hunting seasons. Dr. Dave Bergmann is a native of Platteville whom went on the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point to major in Biology with a Chemistry minor.
