Letter from Jodie Richland County through Fresh Eyes In the last two months I have been incredibly fortunate to host some family, friends and new colleagues into our wonderful community. Whenever people visit, I try to give them a well-rounded experience so they can get a feel for this amazing community that I call home. It is always fun to see the community through a fresh set of eyes. I know that for those of us who live here, we can some mes become so accustomed to what we have that we take it for granted. I thought I would share 3 quick stories that demonstrate what I have heard! In June, I hosted Jen, my good friend for over 20 years. She used to live in Ashland (back when I did) but had been gone from the state for over 10 years! She spent nearly a week here and we did a host of things around town and in the area. She was just absolutely amazed by a lot of what Richland County had to offer! From fabulous food op ons to outdoor recrea on and more. It was also fun to be able to introduce her to so many of you that we ran across throughout the visit! In July, I hosted an “Aunt Jodie” weekend with my nephews Colin (age 10), Drew (age 8), and my niece Nadia (age 5). They love coming to visit and the Carrousel is always a highlight. I earned mega “Cool Aunt” points by ge ng them a sneak peek of the new Buckeye Imagina on Museum (opening next week!). But we also visited the Carrousel, the Mansfield-Richland County Public Library, the Splash Pad at the Y, parks in Mansfield & Lexington, the Blueberry Patch, Nickel & Bean, Relax…and even had them sit through a mee ng with me at the Richland County Founda on (Thanks Brady & team!). They cried when I had to drop them off. I’m sure that was in large part to saying goodbye to my dog Lizzy (who they love), and in smaller part to saying goodbye to me – but my nephew Drew told me proudly – “I’m moving to Mansfield when I grow up, it’s awesome here!” How great is that! Finally, just today I had the chance to have lunch with the team from Bowling Green State University Center for Regional Development who are going to be helping us “dream big” about redeveloping the municipal parking lot in downtown Mansfield (don’t worry…we are keeping the parking). Two of the people were here for the first me. It’s no stretch to say they LOVED the community. One of them said, “I would love to live in Mansfield, you have so much going on!” Once again…so great to hear from an outsider’s perspec ve.

I am completely blessed to have the role I do in Richland County. I’m a relentless cheerleader for all the awesome things we have. I am a fervent believer in the comeback story we are con nuing to write. Is there work le to do? Goodness, yes! Are there very difficult problems le to solve? Sure are! Are we up to the task? Absolutely! I hope these short snippets encourage you. Take a look at your community through fresh eyes. From Plymouth to Butler, Ontario to Lucas…. we are a story in the making, and yours to transform! Onward!
