Mike Jones is an outstanding student originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, home of Skyline Chili and the Cincinnati Bengals which Mike is a fan of both. Mr. Jones relocated to Washington, DC with his family during the pandemic. Since his arrival at the Richard Wright Schools, Mike has quickly become a student leader and stellar athlete. Mr. Jones is a student ambassador with future college aspirations. Mike Jones has been the leading offensive player all Spartan season and he hopes to play college football among his many goals. A leader on and off the field, Mike believes in manifesting what he wants in the future and is willing to do the hard work to accomplish what he wants to do. Mike’s strong desire to succeed is matched by his family who have been there to support him and he wants to be able to support home one day.

“BELIEVE YOU CAN AND YOU’RE HALFWAY THERE.”

This RW Ambassador plans to be an entrepreneur with many thriving businesses from real estate (for which he plans to purchase homes for his mom and grandmother) to his own clothing brand. He is thinking about majoring not only in business for college but also engineering. His travel aspirations include Ghana, where he also has family. Mike believes in writing your goals down and focusing on those goals. Mike contemplates that “even if 100 people believe in you, nothing will happen if you don't believe in yourself.” “IF YOU BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, YOU CAN DO ANYTHING.”

When Mike came to Richard Wright, his favorite thing was that it felt like a family. Since then, he has had many fond memories, his biggest was the Spartans' first win and how hyped they were. Many more wins are in the future for Mr. Jones as he looks forward to enjoying every moment of his Senior year and beyond. A huge kudos to Mr. Jones for demonstrating student excellence and determination!

Family, the energy throughout the building has truly been electric. We are also thankful for the young people who showed up for Saturday School this past Saturday. Parents if your child is in the 8th, 9th or 10th grade, we need them in Saturday School. Our Saturday programming is designed to address the deficiencies we analyzed at the start of the school year.

Parents, we are constantly evaluating student academic data and overall performance. As you know, all of our students were given a diagnostic exam at the beginning of the school year to assess their academic performance levels. After the assessments were completed our Academic Leadership Team did a thorough analysis and concluded that we need to revive our Saturday School to address academic deficiencies.

The analysis revealed some areas of concern which need some extended time to address. This is not uncommon for students to show signs of needing improvement during the lack of schooling in the summer. In order to ensure that we are completing the task of ensuring that every student is “College Ready”. We need all students in grades 8-10th in “Saturday School”. Please see the schedule below.

Students are prohibited form using cell phones during school hours.

All students must have signed permission slips for all after school activities.

Parents please feel free to call the school in cases of emergency.

All students must be in full uniform.

Research reveals that young people between the ages of 6-18 need at least 8 hours of sleep to perform at their highest potential.
