At a time when independent schools are facing a number of challenges, it is wonderful that The RGS Worcester Family of Schools is doing so well. In recent months, we have been shortlisted for several Awards, leapt up the academic rankings at GCSE and A Level and been recognised for our leadership nationally in educational technology. The interaction of our pupils with one another and with their teachers was identified as a ‘Significant Strength’ in our recent excellent ISI Inspection report which stands out and this culture of working together was also expressed in The Good Schools Guide review now available. By giving the pupils incredible choice and opportunity, they achieve amazing things both academically and in their co-curricular pursuits. From speaking publicly to hundreds of people at the BETT Fair in London, to achieving international selection in sports, to performing in exceptional concerts and plays, the pupils really are demonstrating that there is no ceiling to their achievements. EXCEL captures the most recent of these, along with superb trips and tours, achievements in the creative arts, charitable and community works. Activities across all four of our Schools are included along with Alumni events and experiences. EXCEPTIONAL ISI INSPECTION The RGS Worcester Family of Schools is proud to have received an exceptional Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) inspection report (January 2025), including highlighting a ‘Significant Strength’ of the school. The ‘Significant Strength’ recognition was achieved as a result of the School’s outstanding leadership, exceptional Pastoral Care, and steadfast focus on each pupil’s development. Inspectors praised the positive learning environment and noted the strong, supportive relationships between pupils and staff. They highlighted that students are confident and well-rounded, excelling academically while benefiting from a nurturing atmosphere that supports their personal growth and well-being.

TOP CO-ED DAY SCHOOL IN THE WEST MIDLANDS RGS Worcester was recognised in The Sunday Times Schools Guide 2025, ‘Parent Power’, ranked 1st of all co-educational independent day schools in the West Midlands, and the highest ranked school in Worcestershire. Nationally, the School gained significant attention by climbing 34 places in the independent school rankings. RGS Worcester Headmaster, Mr John Pitt, said: “At RGS Worcester, we were delighted to receive an ‘honourable mention’ for the second year running for moving up the rankings so significantly – over 80 places in two years. GOOD SCHOOLS GUIDE The Good Schools Guide visited RGS Worcester in January. Their reviewer Ms Lucinda Wallis shared an insightful reflection on what made RGS Worcester truly exceptional. Her review highlighted the outstanding teaching, exceptional Pastoral Care, and the diverse Co-curricular opportunities that defined life at our School. After spending a full day with staff and pupils, Ms Wallis captured the dynamic, welcoming atmosphere that set RGS Worcester apart. “With academic standards at an all-time high, this friendly, immaculate campus school buzzes with activity and ingenuity, mindfully nurturing the talents and interests of each pupil as they hop across the stepping stones of their pedagogical journey, confidently equipped to follow their own path in a challenging, modern world.” The Good Schools Guide

EDTECH AND THE DIGITAL LEARNING PROGRAMME Digital Geniuses Pupils and teachers from The RGS Worcester Family of Schools attended the 40th-anniversary BETT Show at the ExCeL Centre in London. Over 30,000 visitors gathered to explore cutting-edge educational technology. A group of 40 pupils experienced virtual reality, robotics, and AI-powered platforms, even testing their skills in e-sports. In the afternoon, they delivered an inspiring presentation on AI, with Ridhima Canchi showcasing her use of Goodnotes (pictured below). The event reinforced RGS Worcester’s commitment to preparing pupils for the future through innovative technology.

EdTech Tour RGS Worcester and RGS The Grange hosted a Digital Learning Study Tour with the West Midlands EdTech Hub, bringing together school leaders from across the region. The event featured presentations by RGS pupils, demonstrating their digital expertise, followed by a tour of both Schools to see how technology enhances teaching and learning. 5

GB Honours for RGS Rowers Sixth Form students Olivia Hodgson and Lucy Whiteley were selected to represent Great Britain in the World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals. Both rowers have shown incredible dedication to Rowing throughout their time at RGS.

Footballers Earn England Caps Year Eleven pupils Theo Houston and Max Kilby recently played for the National Under 16 Independent School Football Association team. They represented England in an international match against Wales in Cardiff where both players received their first ISFA England Cap.

World School Games Year Ten pupil Lexi Agoston proudly represented England Swimming at the ISF Under 15 Gymnasiade in Serbia. Competing in the 50m, 100m and 200m Breaststroke, as well as the 50m Butterfly, Lexi joined young athletes from over 55 countries in this prestigious event. She set new personal bests and secured Bronze in the final of the 200m race, contributing to England winning the Games. 6

Rising Stars in Fencing Shine on the National Stage Year Eleven pupil Issy Pottinger has fenced in three international events this year as she progresses in Épée. She is currently ranked 10th in Great Britain Under 14 Girls Épée rankings. Year Eight pupil Emily de Bono won the West Midlands Under 12 Épée Championship, qualifying for the British Youth Championships in Sheffield. Last year, Emily was selected to represent England in the Under 14 Fencing team at a European Fencing competition in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Canoe Challenge Conquered Sixth Form student Lochie Lovell took on the world’s longest non-stop Canoe race, the Devizes to Westminster. Paddling 125 miles and navigating 77 locks, Lochie completed this challenging journey, ending in Westminster, London. Lochie and his partner won the race beating 38 other boats in the Junior Doubles category.

Students’ Science Success RGS Worcester scientists celebrated their bestever results in the Science Olympiads, a prestigious competition that tests students’ knowledge and skills across Chemistry, Biology, and Physics. The Olympiad challenges students to apply their scientific understanding and critical thinking in various scientific fields, promoting a passion for science and recognizing exceptional achievements. In Chemistry, students earned 3 Gold, 11 Silver and 18 Bronze, with Gold awards going to Sam Taylor, Henry Welsby and Matt Fallows. In Biology, the students achieved 1 Gold, 10 Silver and 10 Bronze, with James Evans earning a Gold. In Physics, Year Eleven pupils secured 18 Gold, 36 Silver and 26 Bronze in the Intermediate Challenge, while Lower Sixth students earned 5 Gold, 17 Silver and 8 Bronze in the Senior Challenge. Gold awards were given to Noah Dunnett, William Cartwright, Jacob Hartley, Benjamin Brierley, and Harry Moore. These remarkable results reflect the hard work and dedication of RGS Worcester’s talented scientists.

Outstanding Orators at Oxford

The Senior Debating Society competed at the Oxford School’s Finals Day and RGS Worcester sent two teams to Oxford after finishing first and third in the Midlands Regional round. With 114 teams from across the globe, the debaters competed against the top Debating schools in the world with debates covering topics including violence in sport and nuclear power. Both teams won one round each, with Hannah Agoston and Sasha Penlington finishing as the highest placed Midlands team.

Engineering Scholarship Year Eleven pupil Jai Sanehi has been awarded a prestigious Arkwright Scholarship in Engineering, selected from over a thousand entries nationwide. This highly competitive and respected award is a significant accolade in the field of Engineering, recognising outstanding pupils with a passion for the subject. Jai’s academic excellence and dedication to Engineering truly set him apart and this achievement marks an exciting milestone in his promising future.

Spectacular Shakespeare Speeches Year Seven pupils Lucy Wheeler and Monae Van Vliet competed in the regional round of the English Speaking Union Shakespeare Competition at King’s School, Gloucester. Both girls performed Shakespearean speeches, researched and wrote introductions and impressed judges with their understanding and stage presence. They advanced from the school round, competing against top regional schools. This marks a historic achievement for RGS, with Lucy and Monae progressing to the Wales and West regional final in May.

TRIPS

Snow, Sledging and Skiing The Year Nine Ski Trip to Marilleva, Italy, was an unforgettable experience. With a prime hotel location near the slopes, pupils enjoyed excellent skiing conditions and glorious sunshine. After days on the mountains, they refueled with delicious Italian meals and participated in fun evening activities, including swimming, karaoke and sledging. The highlight was the skiing itself, where pupils of all abilities made impressive progress, building resilience and confidence in a fantastic, supportive environment.

Rowing Retreat Over Half term, 18 rowers travelled to Le Temple-sur-Lot for a week of intensive training at La Base, a world-class venue used by Olympic athletes. The Camp featured on-water sessions to refine technique, strength training and recovery exercises.

Exploring Tokyo’s Tech and Tradition GCSE and A Level Computer Science pupils enjoyed an exciting Trip to Tokyo, blending sightseeing with tech innovation. Highlights included visits to the Tokyo Skytree, Senso-Ji Temple, and Miraikan Museum. The group explored cybernetics at Cyberdyne in Tsukuba and tried out the latest tech at Shibuya’s Apple store, including the Vision Pro headsets. They also visited Shotoku Gakuen School and enjoyed cultural experiences, including a tea ceremony, before finishing the Trip with a visit to the Tokyo Tower. The Trip combined Japan’s traditions and cutting-edge technology.

Cricket, Culture and Caribbean Adventures The Senior Cricket Tour to Barbados was a huge success, blending competitive Cricket with cultural experiences. The team played five exciting matches, securing two wins, with standout performances from George Heywood and Captain Tom Odell. The Tour also offered unforgettable experiences, including snorkeling with manta rays, visiting Harbour Lights, and exploring the Kensington Oval. The players demonstrated excellent teamwork and respect, representing the School with pride on and off the field. This Tour provided valuable cricket development and a deeper appreciation for Bajan culture.

Swimmers Make Waves The Under 15 Girls’ Swimming team competed in the ESSA Secondary Schools Team Relay National Finals. In the Freestyle relay, they qualified for the final with a solid 10th place finish. In the Medley relay, they shone, qualifying 7th and improving to an impressive 5th place in the final. Competing against elite ‘swimming schools’, their performance highlighted their skill, teamwork, and determination.

Rugby 7s Success The Rugby 7s season started with RGS co-hosting top schools at Sixways for 'The Schools Championship 7s' Tournament. The 1st VII triumphed, winning the Shield at the King’s School Worcester Rugby 7s. The term ended at Rosslyn Park, where RGS teams from Under 11 to Under 18 competed in the world’s largest school Rugby tournament, showcasing impressive performances across all age groups, with particular success for the Under 18 Girls and Under 14 Boys.

Unbeaten 1st XI Hockey Home Streak The 1st XI Hockey team had an exceptional season, playing 28 matches and remaining unbeaten in all of their home games. During the season teams from Under 12 A to F, through to the 1st XI, ensured that every player had the opportunity to compete in challenging fixtures, making it a fantastic season for Hockey at RGS Worcester.

Rowers Sweep the Worcester Regatta At Worcester Head of the River, RGS rowers triumphed with victories from the Open J16 4x (Sihan Fu, Zac Johnson, Oliver Maggs, Cooper Collins, coxed by Toby Prendergast), the Open J18 4x (Zac Jew, Matthew Ferris, Henry Welsby, Michael Liu) and the Women’s J18 4x- (Olivia Hodgson, Lucy Whiteley, Martha Colclough, Lottie Richardson). At the West Midlands Junior Championships, RGS earned Gold in the WJ18 2x, Open J18 4x, WJ18 1x, plus Bronze in several categories.

‘Sisters n Sport’ Finalists The 1st VII Netball team qualified for the ‘Sisters n Sport’ Netball Finals Day at Loughborough University, where they proudly finished 3rd in the country in the National Plate competition. They secured their spot with a decisive win over Sedbergh School in the play-off - a fantastic achievement for the team!

MAJOR SPORTS EVENTS AT RGS Challenge Cup Conquerors In the ‘Challenge Cup’ Football match, the 1st XI team put in the most complete performance in an exciting match at Sixways Stadium. RGS took an early lead as centre-forward Hayden Parkes scored within 15 minutes, followed by Albert Padmore’s second goal. In the second half, Hayden Parkes added another goal and goalkeeper George Hallam kept a clean sheet. Captain Will Edgehill sealed the victory with a fourth goal, ensuring an impressive 4-0 win for RGS.

Superball Success The annual ‘Superball’ Netball fixture saw RGS Worcester triumph over King’s School with a 26-22 victory at the University of Worcester Arena. This marks RGS’s seventh win out of nine since the event began in 2014. The evening featured a thrilling 2nd VII match, followed by a coaching session and dance routines from younger pupils. The 1st teams played a closely contested match, with RGS pulling ahead in the final quarter. The 1st VII played with determination throughout the match creating an electric atmosphere. When the final buzzer went the sell out crowd of 1400 people jumped to their feet in celebration.

A Tale of Two Tournaments The ‘Severn Shield’ Hockey match, hosted by King’s School, saw King’s take an early 2-0 lead. Despite RGS dominating possession and scoring once, they couldn’t find an equaliser. Head of Hockey, Miss Sally Walton OLY, praised the team’s resilience and effort. Congratulations to King’s School, and well done to RGS for their spirit. Three weeks later, in a spirited rematch, RGS Under 18s triumphed 3-1 against King’s School in the England Hockey National Cup, with goals from Amelia BentleyHughes and Fynn Butler. RGS’s determination and skill, led by Martina Grace and Mya Walford, secured the win and a place in the next round.

Modus Challenge Cup RGS Worcester made a strong start in the 17th ‘Modus Cup’ against King’s Worcester, scoring a try within the first two minutes. However, King’s Worcester responded with a 17-7 lead by half-time. RGS fought back in the second half to lead 19-17, but King’s clinched a 29-19 victory with two late tries. 16

Geographers Dive into Devon Twenty-three Lower Sixth Geography A Level students travelled to the Field Studies Centre in Slapton, Devon, to collect data for their Non-Examined Assessment (NEA). They researched infiltration rates, coastal processes, and sustainability in Totnes. Despite windy conditions, the students remained resilient, with early morning runs along the Devon coastline led by Mr Roberts.

LEGO Robots, Teamwork and Triumph RGS Worcester pupils participated in the LEGO Spike event at the University of Birmingham, where they tackled a sustainability-focused design challenge using LEGO Spike robots. After an insightful introduction to engineering, pupils collaborated, problem-solved and competed in exciting robot matches. Our teams proudly secured 2nd and 3rd place, with individual accolades for design and innovation. Congratulations to Mr Pope for winning the ‘Team Coach Award’ for his outstanding support.

Remembrance Day Tribute The annual Remembrance Day Service at RGS Worcester honoured those who lost their lives in the World Wars and in other conflicts. The Service, introduced by the Headmaster, marked the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings and featured a commemorative film, a performance by the Chamber Choir, and a Guard of Honour from the CCF. Tributes were paid to 83 RGS alumni listed on war memorials and remembered the courage of those affected by conflict, including the people of Ukraine and the Middle East. School Captains laid wreaths in a moving tribute.

MUSIC Rhapsody in Blue: A Colourful Cathedral Concert The RGS Worcester Family of Schools’ musical year concluded with ‘Rhapsody in Blue: A Concert in Colour’ at Worcester Cathedral. The evening featured twelve colour-themed pieces, beginning with solo songs from RGS Springfield, RGS The Grange, and RGS Dodderhill. Lower Sixth student Sasha Penlington delivered a truly superb performance of Gershwin’s ‘Rhapsody in Blue,’ supported by the orchestra. The Junior Choir performed ‘Colours of the Wind’ and ‘Blue (Da Ba Dee), while the Chamber Choir captivated with ‘Stars.’ The Concert ended with a golden medley, marking Mr Soman’s final performance as Director of Music.

RGS Live The second annual ‘RGS Live’ Pop and Rock Concert was a resounding success, showcasing talented pupils from across the School. The evening featured performances from the Guitar Group, Year Ten band, drummers, and vocal solos by several students. Highlights included the Sixth Form group ‘Noodle Soup’ performing ‘Glory Box’ and band AKT-II closing the show with ABBA’s ‘Does Your Mother Know’.

Chamber Choir Sings at Windsor Chapel The RGS Chamber Choir had the privilege of singing Evensong at St George’s Chapel, Windsor. They performed Psalm 28, Gabriel Jackson’s Responses, and Brewer’s Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in D, with the anthem ‘Beati quorum via’ by Stanford. Before the Service, the Choir enjoyed a private tour of the Chapel, learning about its royal history and connections to RGS - the current Director of Music at St George’s, James Vivian, is a former RGS student. The Choir’s performance and the day’s experiences were truly memorable for all involved.

Sasha Hits the High Notes RGS Worcester Lower Sixth student, Sasha, achieved the prestigious LTCL Level 6 Piano Diploma. This advanced qualification, equivalent to a final undergraduate recital, recognises Sasha’s exceptional talent and dedication. Director of Music, Mr Jonathan Soman, praised her outstanding maturity, technical mastery, and work ethic in reaching this remarkable achievement.

DRAMA

A Wild Ride with Bonnie and Clyde RGS Worcester’s Senior School production of ’Bonnie & Clyde’ was a captivating and emotional retelling of the infamous duo’s tragic story. The talented cast, including Kitty Hildred as ‘Bonnie’ and Arthur Hasling as ‘Clyde’, delivered powerful performances, particularly in their renditions of Dyin’ Ain’t So Bad and Raise a Little Hell. The show blended intense drama with moments of comedic brilliance, such as Izzy Hadley’s portrayal of Blanche. With strong direction, stunning set design and a talented ensemble, the production highlighted the exceptional skills of RGS performers and the emotional depth of this classic tale. 20

Ash Girl a Spellbinding Stage Story RGS Worcester Senior Drama pupils captivated audiences with a striking reimagining of The Ash Girl by Timberlake Wertenbaker. The production, exploring contemporary themes through a darker take on Cinderella, featured two full casts and exceptional performances. From the eerie forest set to the haunting portrayal of the seven deadly sins, the play offered a powerful reflection on beauty, self-worth, and materialism. The production was made all the more impressive because all aspects were organised by the pupils themselves including marketing, ticket sales and backstage.

CAREERS Careers EXPO Sparks Inspiration The eleventh annual RGS Careers & Higher Education EXPO, is the largest Careers event of its kind in Worcestershire. The event brought together pupils, parents and visitors to explore career, University and Apprenticeship pathways. With exhibitors from top UK Universities, businesses and industries, it provided valuable insights into higher education and the workplace. Open to RGS pupils and students from across Worcestershire, the EXPO offered practical guidance and inspiration to help shape future aspirations.

Careers Seminars The monthly Careers Seminars at RGS Worcester featured talks from experts across various professions, most recently including Physiotherapy, Law and Architecture. Catherine Barrett introduced pupils to Physiotherapy, discussing its role in rehabilitation and injury prevention. Judge Christopher Lester shared his journey in Law, covering career paths, challenges and the roles of solicitors and barristers. Mark Owen from Owen Hicks Architecture provided insights into Architecture, highlighting its diversity, challenges, and career paths, including University routes and Apprenticeships, along with the importance of creativity, technical skills and teamwork in the profession.

OEs Offer Apprenticeship Advice Former pupils Lydia Jackson (2019-23) and Ben Reynolds (2015-22) visited RGS to share their experiences of Degree Apprenticeships in Finance and Real Estate. These Apprenticeships offer the chance to earn a Degree while working, gaining valuable experience and a salary. Lydia and Ben offered unique insights, helping current pupils explore this growing alternative to traditional University study.

DESIGN TECHNOLOGY STEM Fun at Williams Racing Year Nine DT Engineering pupils attended an engaging STEM experience day at Williams Racing. They designed and built Formula 1 nose cones, working with a £100,000 budget to test prototypes in a crash test challenge. Later, they experienced esports simulators and toured the Williams Racing museum, learning about F1 car technology. The event was a fun and educational STEM experience.

Morgan Cars Visit Year Ten DT GCSE Resistant Materials pupils visited Morgan Cars in Malvern, observing the craftsmanship behind these iconic vehicles. They witnessed the entire manufacturing process and were impressed by the precision and detail achieved through low-tech methods. Seeing aluminium and ash transformed into beautifully engineered cars was fascinating. With Morgan Cars being the only manufacturer using these techniques and located near RGS Worcester, the visit provided a valuable, real-world learning experience.

Electric Performance at Greenpower Challenge RGS Worcester pupils participate in the Greenpower Challenge, where they design, build and race electric cars. The Year Seven team travel to renowned venues like Goodwood, competing in sprint-style races on full-size circuits. The event offers pupils hands-on experience in engineering and teamwork, demonstrating their innovation and problemsolving skills. Being invited to race at these prestigious events highlights RGS’s commitment to sustainability and STEM education.

ART AND TEXTILES

Portraits of ‘People and Places’ RGS Worcester Art students proudly displayed their work in a special exhibition, ‘People and Places’, at Worcester Cathedral’s historic Chapter House. The exhibition, featuring exclusively examined works, offered a unique opportunity to view the creative achievements of Sixth Form students. Head of Art Mrs Jo Hunt praised the students for their dedication, originality and skill.

Textiles Inspiration Lower Sixth Textiles students visited London to gather research for their Personal Investigation coursework. The trip began at The Saatchi Gallery, exploring the Flora in Contemporary Art and Culture exhibition, followed by a visit to the V&A Museum’s History of Fashion Collection. In the afternoon, students attended the immersive ‘Vogue: Inventing the Runway’ show at The Lightroom. The day provided valuable inspiration for their projects, which form a key part of their A Level qualification.

Oliver Jr! Thrills Audiences Audiences were captivated by RGS Dodderhill’s outstanding performance of Oliver Jr!, which ran over three days. Directed by Mrs Ashley Allen, Teacher of Drama and Head of Performing Arts, the cast and crew brought their best performances to the stage, delivering a spectacular show filled with memorable musical numbers and impressive acting. The pupils brought iconic characters to life with warmth, humour, and emotion, offering a journey through Victorian London. The RGS Worcester Family of Schools was recognised by Day Nurseries as one of the Top 20 Nursery Groups in the UK.

Top of the Bench Four pupils from Years Nine, Ten and Eleven represented RGS Dodderhill in the regional final of the Top of the Bench Chemistry competition at the University of Birmingham. They completed a written Chemistry paper and a practical titration challenge. The day also included a lecture on Green and Sustainable Chemistry.

DofE Adventure A group of RGS Dodderhill girls recently completed their Silver Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) practice expedition in the Forest of Dean. The girls showed excellent teamwork, navigation, and resilience as they trekked through the scenic landscapes. Over the weekend, they tackled challenging terrain, planned their routes, and camped overnight, gaining valuable experience for their upcoming assessment. This expedition not only tested their physical endurance but also enhanced their leadership, problem-solving and teamwork skills—an essential part of their DofE journey.

Tournament Triumphs and Team Spirit The Year Eleven team had a fantastic weekend at the Condover Hall Netball tournament. The girls took part in five competitive Netball matches against teams from various schools and clubs nationwide. They also enjoyed adventurous activities including high ropes and climbing during their downtime. The weekend combined both thrilling competition and fun moments with friends, creating a team spirit and a love for Sport.

Cricket Camaraderie The Under 13 Girls had an incredible experience competing in The Lady Taverners Indoor Cricket Tournament at the University of Worcester Arena. This fantastic event provides a brilliant platform for young female cricketers to showcase their skills, develop teamwork and grow in confidence.

Alpine Adventure in Austria Pupils enjoyed an unforgettable week on the slopes in Austria. Alongside thrilling Ski runs, they experienced curling, thermal spas and plenty of mountain adventures. The trip was filled with laughter, excitement and cherished moments, creating memories that will last a lifetime. 29

Stepping into Spring The Senior girls dazzled audiences with their ‘Stepping into Spring’ Performing Arts Showcase, featuring 39 acts from Years Seven to Eleven. The event included solo, duet, ensemble and group performances in Dance, Drama and Music. Highlights included the Senior Choir’s renditions of ‘Hallelujah’ and ‘The Rose’, Wind Band’s debut and powerful dance performances. The Drama Company’s ‘One for Sorrow, Two for Joy’ explored fate. Year Ten and Eleven pupils also took on production roles, contributing to a fantastic, collaborative evening.

Festival Voices at Birmingham Town Hall The RGS Dodderhill Choirs delivered a stunning performance at the prestigious Birmingham Town Hall Christmas Concert. The Senior Choir, alongside the Prep children, captivated the audience with a rousing rendition of ‘The Snow’, a self-penned arrangement of ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ and the festive classic ‘Let It Snow’. This experience provided the pupils with the opportunity to perform in a renowned venue, encouraging confidence, teamwork and a deeper appreciation for Music.

Prep Recital Our young musicians thrilled friends and family at the Prep Recital. Performances from all Year groups, including both beginners and more experienced performers, showcased an impressive range of classical, folk, pop and rock music across various instruments. The evening opened with our Strings Ensemble and concluded with a performance from the Music Makers Club, highlighting the fantastic Co-curricular opportunities at school. 30

Chinese New Year Celebrations

Silverstone Years Nine and Ten pupils had an exhilarating day at Silverstone, exploring the world of British motorsport! They participated in hands-on activities, learned about the technology behind Formula 1 and discovered career paths in engineering, aerodynamics, race strategy and innovation. The trip was an inspiring look into the vast opportunities within STEM and motorsport.

Pupils in Prep celebrated Chinese New Year with vibrant activities marking the ‘Year of the Snake’. Year Six performed The Legend of the White Snake, followed by a carousel of Art, Language and Music activities. Mr and Mrs Chow shared their knowledge of Chinese food and calligraphy, with pupils learning to write ‘Good Luck’ in Chinese. This celebration forms part of the School’s cultural learning, providing pupils with valuable insights into different traditions and global awareness.

Culture, Fun and Flamenco Spanish pupils had an action-packed Madrid trip. They toured the Royal Palace, Plaza Mayor and more, even spotting the King of Spain. They explored Toledo’s historic sights and visited Museo Cromatica. In Pinto, they immersed themselves in Spanish lessons at Colegio Santo Domingo and a Flamenco show. The girls showed incredible resilience, enthusiasm and academic excellence throughout the trip. .

Candlelight and Carols RGS The Grange held their Carol and Christingle Service at Worcester Cathedral. Surrounded by flickering candles, the School’s choirs filled the Cathedral with harmony. A poignant moment came as the children held their Christingles, with glowing candles symbolising hope and love. The service, with traditional carols and readings, created a sense of unity and reverence, leaving both performers and attendees inspired by the true spirit of Christmas.

Royal Albert Hall 36 of our Year Six Choir members performed at the Barnardo’s Young Supporters Concert at The Royal Albert Hall. Joined by Heather Small and Natasha Kaplinsky, the children showed incredible professionalism. They sang with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in an unforgettable experience to cherish.

Thrilling Performing Arts Week As part of RGS The Grange’s annual Performing Arts Week, Year Five took part in an exciting ‘Play in a Day’. Pupils brought Roald Dahl’s beloved characters to life, from the heartwarming friendship of The BFG to the suspense of The Witches, the clever tricks of Fantastic Mr Fox and the magic of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. With dazzling characters and costumes, it was a day full of creativity and performance! 33

Medieval Day Brings Learning to Life Year Two had a fantastic time during their Medieval Day as part of their ‘Turrets and Talons’ topic. Dressed as kings, queens, knights and dragons, the children took part in archery, jousting and crown-making. They decorated biscuit shields and enjoyed a medieval banquet at lunch. In the afternoon, they crafted clay castle pencil pots and created flags to top them off. It was a fun-filled day that truly brought their learning to life!

Science Fair During National Science Week RGS The Grange hosted the much-anticipated Science Fair, where pupils demonstrated their incredible scientific investigations on the theme ‘Adapt and Change’. They explored topics ranging from the evolution of air travel and advancements in phone technology to splitting the water molecule.

Pupils Design the Future! Year Six pupils participated in an immersive architecture workshop led by Glazzard Architects and Loughborough University’s School of Architecture. Pupils worked in teams to design a relaxation and learning space, collaborating with 67 Loughborough Architecture students. The day sparked excitement for future learning spaces, with pupils set then visiting Loughborough University to see their designs brought to life by the University Architecture students. The workshop is part of RGS’s STEAM initiatives.

Coral Crusaders at Lego League RGS The Grange’s Coral Crusaders impressed at the Lego League Regional Finals, competing against 18 schools in robotics, coding, and innovation. The team’s innovative research project aimed to clean the Diglis Fish Pass without draining water, earning them the prestigious Judges’ Award. Their hard work, problem-solving and teamwork were recognised, with members Maia, Max, Lila and Josh even interviewed by BBC News.

Forest School Fun Our pupils love their time in Forest School, where they can explore, create and connect with the great outdoors. From hands-on activities like den building to observing wildlife, every session is a chance to develop confidence, creativity and teamwork. Forest School is a key part of our approach to outdoor learning, encouraging resilience, independence and a lifelong appreciation of nature. 35

National Hockey Champions The Under Eleven Girls Hockey Team triumphed in the National IAPS Hockey Finals, defeating St Michael’s Prep School in a tense semi-final through extra time and penalty flicks. They secured a 1-0 victory over Clifton College in the final. Special thanks must go to former RGS pupil Alice Atkinson, now in the full England Hockey squad, for her inspiring message for the girls ahead of their final match. Continuing their success later in the season in the ‘In2 Hockey Midlands’ tournament, they scored 29 goals without conceding any.

The Under Eleven Rugby team excelled at the national Rosslyn Park Rugby 7s, the world’s largest school Rugby 7s tournament, winning their group of six teams.

The Under Eleven Boys’ Football team lifted the Matty Thacker trophy early in the season and then continued their success in the Worcestershire Schools FA Competition where they reached the final.

IAPS Netball The Under Eleven Netball Team travelled to Wrekin College for the IAPS Regionals, delivering an outstanding performance. After seven matches, the girls secured six wins, advancing to the next stage.

Pastoral Pets At RGS The Grange, we are incredibly proud of our awardwinning Pastoral Care that ensures every child feels safe, happy and supported. Our dedicated staff create a nurturing environment where pupils can develop confidence, resilience and a strong sense of belonging. With small class sizes and a close-knit community, we focus on individual wellbeing, allowing each pupil to truly flourish. Weekly visits from Pets as Therapy dog Jasmine are a real highlight.

Cheltenham Literature Festival Year Six pupils had the opportunity to attend the Cheltenham Literature Festival, where they listened to author Hiba Noor Khan discuss her book, ‘Safiyyah’s War’. Set during World War II in Paris, the book highlights the Muslim community’s efforts to protect Jews from Nazi persecution. The talk was both inspiring and educational, tying into their classroom studies. Afterwards, pupils met the author and had their books signed.

Springfield Allstars Shine Our Springfield Allstar Cheerleaders performed with enthusiasm at the Worcester Arena during the Worcester Wolves Basketball match against Cardiff. The team displayed their dedication and hard work from Cheerleading Club, thrilling the audience. With family, friends and staff cheering from the sidelines, the Cheerleaders truly did themselves proud, delivering an exciting and memorable performance!

Valentine’s Kindness Nursery pupils embraced Valentine’s Day by spreading kindness across Worcester with random acts of kindness. The children handed out roses and greenery to members of the public, brightening many faces. One recipient said, “What a lovely gesture, it made my Valentine’s Day.” This heartwarming activity helped the children learn the value of kindness, community and the joy of giving, while reinforcing the core values nurtured at RGS Springfield Nursery.

Paddleboarding Club Makes a Splash Paddleboarding Club at The University Lakeside is one of the most popular co-curricular clubs, with pupils eagerly taking to the water to practice balance, steering, and even the occasional splash in the water, making for an enjoyable and adventurous session. All the pupils taking part enjoy the opportunity to be out on the water!

A Day in the life of Nursery At RGS Springfield Nursery, our pupils enjoy a dynamic and enriching day filled with a balance of structured learning and play. Mornings begin with free-flow play, followed by specialist sessions in Phonics, Maths, Music, PE, Ballet, Languages and Cooking, all led by qualified teachers. The children also engage in outdoor exploration in our beautiful walled garden and Forest School. A cooked two-course lunch ensures the children have a delicious and nutritious meal. In the afternoon, there are more opportunities for play and learning, including time spent in the paddock or nursery garden. Children are encouraged to explore their creativity, curiosity and build confidence.

Performers Wow the Crowds in Oliver! The performance of Oliver! wowed audiences with precision, energy and talent. The leads brought their characters to life— Fagin’s humour, Nancy’s beautiful singing, Bill’s intimidation and Oliver’s innocence—while the Artful Dodger and supporting roles shone. The ensemble delivered brilliantly and the set, costumes, lighting, sound and music were expertly executed. The entire production was a fantastic display of teamwork and spirit.

BETT Show

Hockey Skills

Year Six pupils enjoyed attending the BETT Show at the ExCeL Centre in London, exploring cutting-edge educational technology. They discovered AI-powered tools, innovative hardware and even a mini DeLorean-inspired car kit! Two pupils presented at the Albion Computers stand, impressing audiences with their knowledge of AI in education. The day sparked curiosity and excitement about the future of education and technology!

The Under Eight and Under Nine girls took part in a thrilling Hockey Festival. Displaying a competitive spirit, they showed impressive stick skills and strong teamwork, scoring goals across their matches. .

Tag Rugby Talent Years Three and Four boys participated in tag Rugby festivals, playing matches and performing well in each. The pupils showed notable improvements in attack, defence and their overall attitude towards the game.

Rush Hour Concert The Rush Hour Concert provides an opportunity for pupils from beginners to experienced performers, to present their talents in front of a supportive and encouraging audience. It is a fantastic event that celebrates the musical journey of each pupil, building confidence and creativity in a welcoming environment. 43

OUTREACH AND EDUCATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS

‘Play in a Day’ Ninety Year Six pupils from Northwick Manor Primary School participated in the ‘Play in a Day’ Drama Educational Partnerships event at RGS Worcester. The rainforest-themed play, written by RGS Worcester’s Director of Drama, Mrs Jilly Witcomb, allowed pupils to explore drama, singing and dance while building creativity and teamwork. Throughout the day, they participated in workshops and rehearsed for a final performance, which was presented to an audience of parents.

Language Ambassadors Ye a r Nine Language Ambassadors hosted a Modern Foreign Languages Par tner ships event for 150 pupils from five local primary schools. The pupils participated in a variety of French, German and Spanish games, all led by the Year Nine Language Ambassadors. 44

Eggstravaganza Engineering

The annual Science ‘Eggstravaganza’ during British Science Week challenged young scientists to design a bridge strong enough to hold weight. Using simple materials including straws, paperclips and string, teams had 15 minutes to plan and an hour to build. Broadheath C of E Primary School won first place, with Northwick Manor and Great Witley C of E Primary Schools taking second and third.

Netball Action

Nine local primary schools took part in the annual RGS Worcester Primary Schools’ Netball Tournament, playing 36 matches throughout the afternoon. RGS Sports Leaders from Year Ten, working towards the Community Sports Leadership Award (CSLA) and Lower Sixth Sports Leaders completing Level 3 qualifications developed their leadership skills by offering support in umpiring, scoring and timekeeping. This event provided valuable opportunities for the pupils to put their leadership training into practice while assisting with the smooth running of the tournament.

CHARITY WORK

‘Spotacular’ Fundraising RGS Worcester enjoyed a fantastic day raising money for BBC Children in Need, with pupils donating £2 for a nonuniform day. Fundraising activities included a lively ‘Staff Karaoke’ that had everyone laughing and cheering. The School raised an impressive £2,571.52 for this wonderful charity.

Comic Relief RGS Worcester raised an impressive £2,324.22 for Comic Relief. Pupils enjoyed a nonuniform day and participated in the eagerly awaited Staff vs Pupils Netball match, organised by the Charity Committee. With some pupils being unavailable for the match due to the ‘Superball’ fixtures, the staff team secured victory for the third consecutive year!

‘The Big Push 3’ Lower Sixth student Libby Parker completed a marathondistance trail in her wheelchair for ‘The Big Push 3,’ raising awareness and funds for children with Long Covid. Supported by family, friends, and Paralympic gold medallists Becky and Matt Redfern, they have collectively raised over £10,000. Libby’s dedication continues to inspire, highlighting the ongoing impact of Long Covid. Congratulations to Libby and all involved! 46

RGS AND AO FOUNDATION Alumni Reunion In December, we had the pleasure of welcoming back the Classes of 2024, 2023, and 2022 for New OE Drinks at RGS Worcester. The iconic Perrins Hall set the perfect scene for our newest Old Elizabethans (former pupils) to reconnect. The evening was filled with joyful reunions, as friends caught up and staff reconnected with former pupils. With OEs embarking on diverse journeys—whether at University, in Apprenticeships, or travelling the world— the hall was alive with exciting stories and memories from their time at RGS.

Apprentice of the Year Former RGS Worcester pupil Emelia Hughes (201522) was named Worcestershire Advanced Level Apprentice of the Year at the 2024 Worcestershire Apprentice Awards. Now a mechanical Apprentice at Yamazaki Mazak, Emelia’s success highlights the valuable opportunities Apprenticeships provide. She also inspired current pupils at the RGS Careers EXPO, sharing her journey and experiences to encourage others to pursue similar paths.

Perrins Hall Redevelopment Perrins Hall will undergo a redevelopment, thanks to the generous gift from former pupil Ian Carmichael (1945-54) and his wife Maggie. The project will improve accessibility, sustainability and energy efficiency while maintaining the building’s historic charm. Key upgrades will include a new access ramp, an extended vestibule and energy-efficient features. This redevelopment reflects the Carmichaels’ continued support for RGS Worcester and its pupils, reinforcing the School’s commitment to blending heritage with modernity.

OEs Inspire Oxbridge Hopefuls Former RGS Worcester pupils Mar Poyser (200622) and Will Osborne (2006-21) returned to lead an Oxbridge Guidance session for Middle School and Lower Sixth pupils considering applications to Oxford and Cambridge Universities. They shared their experiences of the application and interview process, university life and their subjects. The session provided valuable insights for students preparing their own applications and we thank Mar, Will and our alumni for their ongoing support.

Beach Sprint Success Former RGS Worcester pupil Menna Sutton (201623) competed in the Home International Beach Sprint Regatta, representing Wales in the Under 23 mixed double category. The event, featuring the four Home Nations, offers a pathway for emerging rowers to join national teams. Menna demonstrated her talent by finishing second in the A Final, highlighting her potential for future international competitions.
