Festive Season celebrations with Seniors Christmas Concert
The Club once again spread festive cheer with its much-loved Seniors Christmas Concert, held on Tuesday 9 December 2025. This popular annual event welcomed more than 400 senior members for a joyful day of entertainment, celebration and community spirit.
Guests were treated to a delicious two-course menu before settling in to enjoy a series of live festive performances and special guest appearances. Adding to the Christmas magic, members were warmly greeted on arrival by the one and only Mrs Claus.
The concert was officially opened by MC Jace, who commenced proceedings with the National Anthem. This was followed by a heartfelt address from Club President
Christine Butters, who thanked members for their continued support and wished everyone a wonderful festive season.
Entertainment was a highlight of the afternoon, with outstanding performances by special guest artists Grace Rizzo, Danny Elliott and Sharna Le Grande. Their lively and engaging performances had the audience singing along and embracing the Christmas spirit.
The Club extends a sincere thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the event such a success.

Report Executive
Dear Members,
We hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Christmas and New Year, and that you welcomed 2026 with open arms. Welcoming a New Year is always an exciting and refreshing time—but it feels especially significant this year as we officially farewell 2025.
CONGRATULATIONS DARYL MELHAM AM – CLUB PATRON
Revesby Workers’ Club is proud to announce Daryl Melham AM as a Patron of the Club, following the Annual General Meeting held in October. Daryl’s relationship with the Club spans over 50 years – beginning as a Barman and Tray Steward in the 1970s, becoming a member in 1976, and joining the Board of Directors in 1980. His leadership has shaped the Club's growth and success, serving as Vice President (1982–2010) and President (2010–2024).
His incredible record of service spans more than four decades, including an extraordinary 44 years on the Board of Directors. During this time, he provided steady leadership through periods of major redevelopment and guided significant community-focused initiatives that helped shape the organisation’s long-term success.
A committed advocate for the local area, he worked tirelessly to support charities, schools and sporting groups, ensuring they received the resources and recognition needed to thrive. Through his oversight of the ClubGRANTS program, he helped direct millions of dollars in contributions back into the community, strengthening essential services and supporting countless local projects. Beyond his direct community involvement, he further served the public as the Federal Member of Parliament for the Seat of Banks from 1990 to 2013. His dedication to public life and the wellbeing of his constituents was recognised nationally when he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2017.
Having stepped down from the Board in 2024, the Board unanimously supports this appointment in recognition of his extraordinary commitment and legacy.
Please join us in congratulating Daryl on this well-deserved honour.
MEMBER ANNIVERSARY EVENTS
We were pleased to host our Member Anniversary events on 23 October 2025 in our Melham Function Centre. Our 40-, 50- and 60-year members joined us for an afternoon celebration, while our 25-year members were welcomed at an evening event.
These gatherings provided a wonderful opportunity to connect, reflect, and honour the dedication of our long-standing members. Each recipient received a commemorative certificate and pin, and members celebrating 40, 50 and 60 years

16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM

were also presented with our True to our Traditions history book on USB.
This year, we were especially proud to acknowledge our 60-year members—an incredible milestone that represents a lifetime of loyalty, connection and contribution to our community. Reaching 60 years of membership is a rare achievement, and we were honoured to celebrate this extraordinary commitment alongside those who have been part of our story for more than half a century.
We would also like to acknowledge the exceptional efforts of our Marketing and Food & Beverage teams, whose hard work and coordination ensured both events were a great success.
We look forward to celebrating these special milestones with our members again later in the year.
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign played a significant role in club activities last November/December reinforcing the Clubs' commitment to promoting respectful relationships and supporting those impacted by domestic violence.
On November 24 we marked the first day of the campaign with a significant milestone—the reopening of Biyani House – Revesby Women’s Shelter. In partnership with Women’s Community Shelters, Biyani House, State Government, and local organisations, the Club celebrated the launch of a new core and cluster refuge. The Club provides the property for the shelter, while the NSW Government invested $2.29 million to deliver four self-contained units and refurbished facilities within the house, creating a safe haven for women and children escaping violence.
Our staff proudly participated in Canterbury-Bankstown’s Tug O’ War Cup, an event designed to promote respectful relationships and raise awareness about ending domestic violence. Competing with enthusiasm, our mixed team secured second place, demonstrating both strength and solidarity for this important cause.
Early December marked the release of a special Purple Shirts Helping Hands episode, which aired on Channel 9, aligning with the 16 Days of Activism and amplifying education around domestic violence prevention.
BANKSTOWN STOKE SUPPORT GROUP
The Club proudly congratulates Tony Finneran on receiving the “Improving Life After Stroke Award” at the 2025 National Stroke Awards. Tony’s dedication to supporting stroke survivors has had a profound impact, helping individuals regain independence and confidence. As a long-standing Committee member of the Bankstown Stroke Support Group, (a Revesby Workers’ sub-club) Tony has championed inclusive activities, peer support, and greater awareness of stroke recovery needs—creating a welcoming community for those affected.
CHARLOTTE’S WISH WALK
Revesby Workers’ proudly supported Charlotte’s Wish Walk Week, inspired by the memory of 12-year-old Charlotte O’Brien, whose tragic passing in 2024 highlighted the urgent need to address bullying and youth mental health. The Club hosted the launch walk on November 3 and a Purple Friday walk on November 7, raising $14,945 through staff and community efforts. This contributed to a campaign total of $48,947. See page 8 for the full story.

Director Reports

Christine Benham Vice President
Oh no!! Not 2026 already! 2025 was another major year for the Club, our management and staff, across all facets of our business, deserve huge accolades for their outstanding work. We thank those members who patiently supported the major works to Health Mates in the final quarter of the year... and what a great facility it is!
The Club was proud to receive two major industry awards this year. At the annual Clubs and Community Awards, Clubs NSW honoured us with the Heart of the Community Award in recognition of our commitment to Biyani House – Revesby Women’s Shelter. In November, Leagues Clubs Australia presented the Club with the prestigious John Knipe Award, acknowledging the impact of our Tertiary Scholarship Program.
Within Revesby Workers Club, we have lots of sub-clubs that are run by dedicated volunteers who are committed to enhancing other peoples’ lives. From sporting groups such as Little Athletics, Football, Bowls, Netball, and Cricket, to interest-based groups like the Garden Club, Ladies Group, Stroke Support Group, Toastmasters, and many more – there are lots of opportunities for our members to get involved, so please consider joining.
This year, we held two highly successful volunteer recognition events at Revesby Greens, celebrating the incredible contributions of our sub-club volunteers. It was wonderful to see so many passionate individuals come together to share experiences and achievements. Among the highlights were stories from our Hockey Club, which achieved remarkable success at the World Masters Games in Taipei in May 2025, fielding two teams and bringing home gold medals for both! Their journey was made possible through months of enthusiastic fundraising and teamwork.
Revesby Greens is a wonderful venue for social gatherings, and we encourage our sub-clubs to make the most of it. While it may not accommodate the larger presentations some sub-clubs require, it’s perfect for team get-togethers and fundraising events. Plus, Barefoot Bowls is available and offers a fun, relaxed way to enjoy the space.
Revesby Workers’ Swim Club enjoyed another successful
year, continuing to build its junior ranks. Exceptional management and a commited team of volunteers were evident in the smooth running of two highly successful swim meets, attracting participants from across Sydney. The Little Athletics Centre saw substantial growth—not only in participant numbers but also in performance, achieving impressive results at Zone and Regional levels. Our Senior Cricket team celebrated an unexpected triumph, winning the 3rd Grade Premiership. Remarkably, this team was formed from players of two sides that finished last in 1st and 5th Grade the previous season. The Revesby Workers’ Netball Club also had an outstanding year, securing several premierships and earning the title of Association Champions.
Revesby Workers’ Club, through Club Grants, has proudly supported local Special Schools for many years. The teachers and staff at these schools do incredible work with children who are intellectually and often physically disabled, showing true dedication and care. This year, we again funded the MiniFit program for both Caroline Chisholm School and Broderick Gillawarna School, as well as the Morris Music Program—and seeing the joy on the faces of participating students was truly heart-warming.
The Club’s Charity Committee (which I am privileged to chair) continues to raise funds to assist our local community, most recently by purchasing essential “wish list” equipment for Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital. We are deeply grateful for the support provided through our Friday night meat raffles at Revesby Greens, which have attracted a loyal group of supporters—and we always welcome newcomers!
Our Charity will shortly be purchasing much-needed equipment for the hospital as soon as we receive their updated list of requirements. We are truly lucky to live in Australia. Let’s continue to support the wonderful volunteers we have in this country when we can.
We look forward to another great year for Revesby Workers’ Club in 2026.

As I wrote this quarter’s report, I reflected on how quickly the year has flown by. It reminded me of John Rowles’ classic, If I Only Had Time. Like the lyrics, I wondered where time has gone. Rowles performed at the Club in 1972 and again in 1980 to a packed audience. I was there in 1980—it feels like only yesterday!
Having said that, it was wonderful to see families enjoying Christmas and New Year at the Club. Guests loved the festive foyer display and Santa photo opportunities for children. Our staff embraced the season too, celebrating with their annual Christmas breakfast and Service Awards, adding to the joyful atmosphere throughout the holidays.
Our refurbished Health Mates gym is earning rave reviews from staff and regulars, with holiday usage remaining strong. This investment benefits members and the Club, and with all the excitement around the new equipment, I might just dust off the Lycra and give it a go!
And for those sports lovers who’d rather watch the action with a drink in hand than hit the gym, get ready! Our Vegas Watch Party is set to bring footy fans together to cheer on the mighty Bulldogs as they take on St George in the NRL season launch in Las Vegas. It’s shaping up to be a huge year for the Dogs—don’t miss it!
Our February board meeting set the year’s tone with updates on NSW Government changes to gaming hours, plans to replace two ageing escalators from the foyer to the gaming floor, entertainment across venues, and our continued commitment to support school children, charitable causes, and local community organisations.
The Club’s commitment to giving back has never been stronger. Through grants and sponsorships, we’ll continue supporting those in need—from sporting and cultural groups to schools, community organisations, and causes like Charlotte’s Wish Walk for mental health, the Mayor’s Sleepout for homelessness, and the Tug ‘o’ War Cup against domestic violence.
As liaison director on the Education Committee, our support of local school children going on to university, or TAFE, will continue with an emphasis on supporting academic

excellence, encouraging those taking up trades and those in financial need.
Contrary to the phrase “beware the Ides of March” from Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, March promises to be an engaging and rewarding month as we celebrate seniors and women. Our week-long Seniors Festival will feature activities and special meal deals. On Friday 6 March, we’ll host our International Women’s Day event, with staff wearing purple shirts to highlight the fight against domestic violence. This year’s theme, “Give To Gain,” promotes generosity and collaboration—a principle that resonates with our Club values. When you give, you gain, and we’re proud to embrace this mindset in everything we do.
April will be a month of reflection and celebration. Good Friday and Easter Sunday—significant dates on the Christian calendar—invite families to gather at the Club for Easter lunches. Later, we pause to honour those who served and died in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. As in past years, I’ll attend our Anzac Day service with directors, members, and veterans. It’s always moving and inspiring to see more young people present. After the formalities, we’ll share drinks, mingle, and listen to stories from days gone by.
After reading my report, you would have realised that time is on the march and passing us by!
Be safe and don’t forget that Mother’s Day is just around the corner, make sure you plan ahead and remember to make it a special day.

CONTINUING A PROUD TRADITION OF COMMUNITY CARE
The spirit of giving was alive and well at Revesby Workers’ during the festive season. The Club’s annual Giving Tree and Health Mates Food Drive once again brought the community together. Thanks to the generosity of our members and friends, hundreds of gifts and food items were donated to support local families doing it tough.
The response was so overwhelming that the Padstow Community Care team needed to make multiple trips to collect donations—a true testament to the compassion and community spirit that defines our local community. Their dedicated volunteers ensured food hampers reached families in need and that children receive a special present this Christmas.
For over 10 years the Club and local community have proudly supported programs that assist vulnerable members of our local area. This initiative is another tangible way that the club, staff, members and local community support those in need. The Club also supports Padstow Community Care’s Christmas Day Community Lunch, a tradition spanning 18 years. With funding provided by the club the event provides a three-course meal, gifts, and food packages for those who would otherwise spend Christmas alone. In 2025, the lunch hosted over 100 guests—a reflection of the growing need caused by rising living costs and social isolation.
Thank you to everyone who donated and helped make this year’s Giving Tree and Food Drive a success. Together, we continue to make a real difference.
SUB CLUB CHRISTMAS - CELEBRATING COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS
The Board of Directors recently hosted the annual Sub Club Appreciation Christmas Event at Revesby Greens— an afternoon dedicated to celebrating the remarkable volunteers of our community. These passionate individuals selflessly give their time, skills, and energy throughout the year to support families and community members through sport, recreation, and social connection.
Club Vice President Christine Benham opened the event with a warm and heartfelt welcome, highlighting the vital contribution our Sub Clubs make to enriching local lives. From Cricket, Swimming, Seniors Golf, Indoor Ladies Bowls, Hockey, Netball, Revesby Writers, and Toastmasters—among many others—each group embodies the strong community spirit that defines our Club.
The celebration also featured a special Bill Bullard Charity raffle, adding an extra layer of goodwill. Thanks to the generosity of attendees, the raffle raised over $500 for the Bill Bullard Charity Committee. These funds will go directly toward

STAFF JOIN FORCES TO SUPPORT THE SALVATION ARMY
Club staff members from across the organisation came together this week to support the local area Salvation Army branch by volunteering their personal time. A total of 8 volunteers across 2 days, staff rolled up their sleeves and got to work—assembling food hampers, organising toy donations by age group, and ensuring every parcel was packed with care.
• Providing access to crisis accommodation and pathways to long-term housing.
The Salvation Army relies heavily on volunteers and community partners, and the Club is proud to stand beside them in their vital work.
Adding to these volunteer efforts, the Club donated $20,000 to support several key community initiatives delivered through the Salvation Army Panania branch. This funding will allow the organisation to:
• Provide ongoing emergency relief services to support the increasing number of local families experiencing financial hardship including delivering food hampers and supermarket vouchers to individuals struggling with rising living costs.
• Strengthen financial literacy workshops to empower local residents with practical budgeting and money management skills.
• Expand support for seniors in Panania who are at risk of social isolation, offering more community engagement opportunities through The Village Café
OPENING SPORTING DOORS FOR CHILDREN IN OUT-OF-HOME CARE
A partnership between FosterCare FC and the Club is giving children in Out-of-Home Care across Canterbury-Bankstown the chance to participate in local sport and build meaningful connections in their community.
FosterCare FC, launched earlier this year, is an initiative helping children in care overcome financial and logistical barriers to joining local sporting groups. Many children face emotional and social challenges, and participation in sport offers routine, friendship, and positive role models. Early support from Revesby Workers’ Club helped launch the program locally and enabled the team to secure additional grants in other areas.
Revesby Workers’ Club is now the program’s founding impact partner, funding 40 placements for children in the local area. Within just three months since the partnership, 10 children have already been registered into clubs, receiving uniforms, equipment, and fees.
The benefits are clear - children who have experienced trauma gain confidence, social skills, and a sense of belonging. One Department of Communities and Justice Case Worker said a previously shy child now trains twice a week, plays every Saturday, and is “thriving through sports.” Children are known not as “the foster kid,” but as part of a team—the striker, the bowler, the goal attack.
The program also strengthens community ties. Clubs, carers, and case workers collaborate to support children, while FosterCare FC manages coordination to remove barriers such

as cost, lack of networks, and complex registration systems.
With the backing of local Clubs, FosterCare Sport is on track to reach 120 children nationally in its first year, with hopes to expand further. This partnership is helping children in care feel included, valued, and connected—both on and off the field.
Charlotte’s Wish continues to inspire communities to have open conversations about youth mental health and suicide prevention. Revesby Workers’ Club is proud to stand alongside this movement, reinforcing our commitment to creating a safer, more supportive future for young people.

CLUB STAFF AND COMMUNITY WALK FOR CHARLOTTE’S WISH
In 2024, 12-year-old Charlotte O’Brien tragically lost her life due to bullying, her passing was a heartbreaking reminder of the urgent need to address youth mental health. Over the course of 7 days from November 3- 9, our staff and community supporters raised an outstanding $14,945 and collectively walked 822 kilometres to champion youth mental health.
Charlotte’s Wish is an initiative that unites participants in raising awareness and funds for suicide prevention and mental health support. This year’s campaign has already achieved remarkable milestones:
• Over $45,000 raised toward the $50,000 goal
• More than 6,700 kilometres walked by participants across four countries
• 340 walkers joining together in a worldwide effort to support youth mental health.
The week began with a community walk from Revesby Workers’ Club, attended by Mayor Bilal El-Hayek, and received national attention with coverage on the Today Show and 9 News. On Friday, November 7, Charlotte’s family joined our staff team in wearing purple to honour another young life lost to bullying, Corrine Lee Cheu, and to support the Club’s Purple Friday’s initiative, which raises awareness for victims of domestic violence.
WOMEN IN BOWLS: COMMUNITY FRIENDSHIP AND FUN.
The women of Revesby Workers’ Bowls—both Indoor and Outdoor—continue to demonstrate the power of community, friendship and sport in bringing people together. Across the Revesby Workers’ Ladies Indoor Bowls Club and the Revesby Workers’ Bowling Club (mixed), are players of all ages and skill levels finding connection, confidence and a sense of belonging.
For many, joining begins with a simple decision to try something new. Connie Sorrenti first walked into the Ladies Indoor Bowls Club in 2017 after reducing her work hours and feeling the need for a mid week connection. Despite not knowing a thing about bowls, she was welcomed with open arms by a group of women who ranged in age from their late 60s through to an impressive 92. The Indoor Bowls Club, now over 30 years old, has long provided a warm and supportive environment for women—particularly those living alone—to spend time with friends, share laughter, and enjoy friendly competition every Wednesday. The room is always filled with playful cheers, groans, chatter and celebration, proving that the social side of the game is just as meaningful as the sport itself.

Outdoors at Revesby Workers’ Bowling Club (mixed), members like Leanne Kelly have discovered a new passion in lawn bowls. After years of playing netball and wanting a safer way to stay active, Leanne took up the sport and quickly fell in love with it. In just two years she has already achieved impressive results, including winning a Charity Day event and finishing as runner up in the Ladies Pairs competition. She thrives on the physical and mental challenge—mastering line and length, predicting opponents’ shots, and facing the unpredictable elements of the weather. What she values most, however, is the camaraderie and friendships built within the club, where modern uniforms and a lively social culture have replaced old stereotypes of bowls being a quiet pastime for older players.
Both the Indoor and Outdoor Bowls communities offer women a sense of place and purpose. Players celebrate milestones together, support one another through challenges, and share countless moments of joy on and off the mat. Whether it’s the friendly mid week Indoor games or the competitive and social sessions on the greens— including twilight bowls in summer—each experience strengthens the network of women who proudly represent Revesby Workers’.
Both clubs extend a warm invitation to new players.
The Revesby Workers’ Ladies Indoor Bowls Club will hold an Open Day on 18 February, where visitors can try a game, enjoy free tea and coffee, and meet the wonderful women who make the club so special. Contact Connie Sorrenti 0409 677 755 for further details.

The Revesby Workers' Bowling Club (mixed) at Revesby Greens also welcomes newcomers with access to coaching, equipment and a friendly community ready to help beginners learn the sport. Contact the Bowls office for further information on 02 8707 6995 or email revesbybowlers@ outlook.com
REVESBY WORKERS’ CLUB TAKES A STAND AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ON NATIONAL TV
The Club has proudly participated in a national TV program across the Nine Network, showcasing the Club’s commitment to addressing domestic and family violence and promoting respectful relationships within the community.
The feature will appear as part of a 10-minute documentary on Helping Hands TV, highlighting the Club’s Purple Shirt Friday initiative. Every Friday, Club staff wear purple to spark meaningful conversations about domestic and family violence and raise awareness of the issue within the workplace and the broader community.
Purple Shirt Friday forms a key part of the Club’s Domestic Violence Action Plan, a comprehensive strategy developed to create a safer, more inclusive environment for staff, members, and the wider community. The Action Plan includes education programs, awareness campaigns, support resources and initiatives designed to empower individuals and promote respectful relationships. The Helping Hands documentary will showcase how Revesby Workers’ Club’s initiatives are making a tangible difference—encouraging conversations, breaking down stigma, and demonstrating the importance of community action in tackling domestic and family violence.
The Club has also sponsored an upcoming episode of Helping Hands featuring Biyani House – Revesby Women’s Shelter, set to launch in 2026. This episode will showcase the vital work of Biyani House in supporting women and children experiencing domestic violence, including the reopening of the shelter following a major redevelopment funded by the government. The refurbishment of the main property, along with the addition of four new units, will allow the shelter to

Through these efforts, the Club is reinforcing its commitment to social responsibility, supporting vulnerable community members, and driving positive change both within the Club and the wider community.
REVESBY WORKERS’ CLUB WINS PRESTIGIOUS LEAGUES CLUB AUSTRALIA JOHN KNIPE AWARD
Revesby Workers’ Club has been honoured with the prestigious Leagues Club Australia (LCA) John Knipe Award in recognition of the outstanding impact of its Tertiary Scholarship Program.
The John Knipe Award, presented by LCA, celebrates clubs that deliver exceptional community or charitable initiatives outside of standard grants programs. It recognises organisations that make a meaningful, long-term difference in their communities, placing Revesby Workers’ Club alongside other clubs nationally acknowledged for their commitment to positive social impact.
The Club’s Tertiary Scholarship Program, which has been running for more than six decades, is one of the longest-standing initiatives of its kind in the Australian club industry. The program eases the financial burden for local students pursuing higher education and supports the development of future leaders across a wide range of fields, including health, engineering, law, science, trades, and the arts.
Since its inception, the program has enabled countless students to access tertiary education, helping to foster skills, opportunities, and leadership within the local community. By recognising academic achievement and supporting young
people to reach their potential, the program has become a cornerstone of the Club’s commitment to education and community development.
SHARPER TOOLS, STRONGER COMMUNITY: $9K BOOST FOR REVESBY MEN’S SHED
Revesby Workers’ Club recently visited the Revesby Men’s Shed to see the positive impact of its $9,000 contribution towards a new safety saw—an essential upgrade supporting the Shed’s ongoing community work and creative projects.
Based in the NSW National Parks & Wildlife building within Georges River National Park, the Revesby Men’s Shed provides a welcoming environment where members can connect, learn new skills, and work on a wide range of hands-on activities. These include engineering, woodworking, stained glass, leatherwork, and model-making, all of which promote both skill development and social connection.
During the visit, Club representatives toured the workshop and spoke with members about how the new safety saw will enhance day-to-day operations. The upgraded equipment improves both precision and safety, particularly across woodworking and restoration projects.
The Revesby Men’s Shed is widely recognised for its positive contribution to the local community, regularly completing maintenance and restoration work at Biyani House – Revesby Women’s Shelter and local schools and community groups, supporting charitable projects, and providing valuable social opportunities for members. The new equipment ensures the group can continue this important work safely and with confidence.

As we closed the chapter on an incredible year, November brought one of our most anticipated traditions—the ClubWide Staff Meeting. The atmosphere was nothing short of vibrant, with a beautifully decorated venue that reflected just how much we value every team member’s contribution throughout the year.
Our Food & Beverage team set the tone with a mouthwatering breakfast spread, ensuring everyone started the day on a delicious note. Their effort never goes unnoticed—thank you for making these gatherings extra special!
This year, we were thrilled to welcome around 140 staff members to the event. More than just a catch-up, these meetings are a heartfelt celebration of our shared successes and an opportunity to look ahead to exciting plans for the future. Together, we reflected on standout initiatives such as the introduction of purple shirts, RUOK Day, Charlotte’s Wish Walk, the Biggest Morning Tea, and our ongoing Mental and Physical Health programs—just to name a few.
One of the most inspiring moments was honouring team members who reached service milestones of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and even 35 years. Their loyalty and dedication to our Club and its values are truly remarkable. A special highlight was the return of Vid Benkovich, who retired in September after an extraordinary 40 years of service. Vid personally presented his brother Joe with his 35-year award—a touching reminder of the family spirit that makes our Club unique.
We also celebrated staff who completed work-related courses this year, presenting them with graduation gifts and announcing the next round of Staff Scholarship applications—because investing in growth and development is at the heart of what we do.
And of course, no meeting would be complete without the thrill of lucky door prizes! The energy was electric as winners raced to claim their prize within 10 seconds—or risk a lively re-draw. It’s always one of the most anticipated and fun moments of the day.
These gatherings remind us why we do what we do: to connect, appreciate, and grow together. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this event so memorable. Here’s to an even bigger, brighter, and more exciting year ahead!

ANZAC day
Saturday 25 April
ANZAC Day is a solemn occasion to honour the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps soldiers who fought and died at Gallipoli in 1915. It also commemorates all service men and women who have given their lives for their country.
First observed in South Australia in October 1915 and nationally on 25 April 1916, ANZAC Day has been a public holiday across Australia since the mid-1920s.
The phrase “Lest We Forget” is recited after the Ode of Remembrance, drawn from Laurence Binyon’s 1914 poem For the Fallen:
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.”
ANZAC Service
10.30am March from Bankstown YMCA down Macarthur Avenue to Revesby Workers’ Club
10.45am ANZAC Day Service at Cenotaph
Following the service, a private function will be held in Presidents Lounge for all attendees.

We had over 400 athletes registered, ranging in age from our 5-year-old Tiny Tots through to our 17 year old senior athletes. This is our fourth season at our new grounds at Kelso Park North and we are proud to see our club continuing to maintain strong growth from the previous three seasons.

• Asher Baker broke the 10 Girls Discus record and Shot Put record, both previously set in 1994
• Alana Mellas broke the 11 Girls Discus record and Shot Put record, previously set in 2020 and 1995

A highlight of this season was our inaugural Captains Charity Round, an initiative proposed by this year’s Club Captains Scarlett McGraw and Jacob Poole and Vice Captains Amelia Lukunic and Ruby McGraw. Our Captains organised a purple themed Charity Round to raise funds for Biyani House Revesby Women’s Shelter. Our amazing RWLAC community came together to support this great cause and raised over $1600 for Biyani House. We are excited for this to be an annual initiative where we can support community causes.
We also had 89 athletes compete at the Southern Metropolitan Zone Championships and 68 athletes have subsequently qualified to compete at the Region 8 Championships. We wish them the best of luck in their events.

Due to the Auditorium not being available we only played six weeks this quarter but as we come to the end of another year we reflect on how much enjoyment there has been in meeting up each week and playing our great game.
We held our annual Christmas party at the RWC on Wednesday Dec 17th and what a huge success it was. The smiles, the laughter and the singing said it all. We extend our thanks to Rachel Lumley and the staff at RWC for their service, excellent as always and of course the food was plentiful and delicious.

BOWLS – LAWN
Liaison Director: David Raper
Our year has got off to a good start as we prepare for pennants and begin this year’s championships. But a few comments on events at the end of last year.
Our congratulations to Peter Shean and Peter Chown on winning the Regional Reserve Pairs defeating Belfield in the final. Thanks to all who supported them. They will now represent the region in a State plays-offs in Dubbo in August.
Competition was quite intense in the last months of 2025. The Veteran Singles was played in good spirits with Elizabeth Griffin defeating Peter Chown in the final. Congratulations Elizabeth! The Turnaround Triples proved to be a popular event, and we congratulate Lyn Gallant, Ellie Atme and Peter Chown who defeated Ross Graham, Jan Stiskala and Elizabeth Griffin in the final. Well-done Lyn, Ellie and Peter.
The Ladies Pairs was won by defending champions Sue Semlitzky and Elizabeth Griffin who defeated Fay Shean and Clare Chown in a well-fought final. Sue and Elizabeth now have the opportunity to represent our club in the Regional Champions of Champions later this year. The final of the Men’s Pairs will be played in the coming weeks.
The annual Olsen’s Christmas event was successful once again with teams competing from many clubs on a very hot day. However, competitive bowls, a delicious lunch, a cold drink or two and our traditional raffle ensured an enjoyable day for all. Thank you to Olsen’s for their support of the day.
Twilight bowls each Friday afternoon is an enjoyable and social event for all participants. The Christmas twilight was well attended and promised to be a festive extravaganza - until the weather changed and the storm forced us off the green after three ends. A trivia challenge was substituted (thanks to Amanda) and
a fun night was had by all. Thanks also to Leanne for sponsoring the event.
And what will the new year bring?
The final of the Mixed Pairs between Gail McQuiggin and Robert McFarland and Jan Stiskala and Elizabeth Griffin will be played mid-January. The mid-week Triples begin in February followed by the mid-week Consistency competition.
Regional Open Pennants start in February. Selection games have been organised in preparation for the competition. The Club has entered a team in Grade 5 and a team in Grade 7. We will work hard to make it a successful year for our club.
We were saddened as 2025 closed and the new year began by the death of former players Raylee Cunningham, Geoff Pullman and Dora Westicott. Raylee, Geoff and Dora contributed to the success of our club over many years. We were saddened by the passing of Diane Fitzpatrick, the wife of our Vice President Ray Fitzpatrick. We extend our condolences to RWC director, Christine Benham and her family on the recent death of Christine’s husband, Ray. May he rest in peace.
If you are interested in joining our bowling club you are most welcome. Coaching can be organised for new bowlers. Our focus, apart from being the best bowlers we can be, is social interaction and enjoyment. If this appeals to you, please contact our President, Geoff Went (0407 204 139) or our Vice President, Dianne Oliver (0412 738 320) for further information.

This summer season is well underway, with the finals being played in March. Performances have been good, generally, and we are having fun, which is what park cricket is about! Thank you to our wonderful band of volunteers – captains, scorers and managers. Cricket cannot be played without people stepping up to take on these roles.
All our senior players have been doing the Club proud, with some great performances and displaying the true spirit of cricket!
The FORCE – Fathers Of Revesby Cricket Eleven – have not played any matches yet this season, but there is still enthusiasm to get on the park and, indeed, to play in any festivals that come along.

Our three young ones playing in the Blasters Program are having fun on Tuesday afternoons at Johnson Reserve, and will resume in February.
We hope everyone had a very happy Christmas and wish you all a wonderful 2026. Take care and stay safe.

We ended last year with a lovely Christmas luncheon at RWC’s Melham Function Centre. We were regaled with a hot and cold buffet which included
locally sourced prawns and oysters! Live entertainment was provided by forever favourite Russell Churcher. We had a table full of lucky door prizes which included two $50 RWC gift vouchers as well as a $99 Australian Maritime Museum Family Ticket.
During this luncheon President Val Kennedy presented Beryl Betcher with a special Membership Award and a huge bouquet for her valuable contribution to the Garden Club Committee. Beryl joined our club in 2013. It is her smiling face that greets members and visitors now at the Reception Table.
Our February guest speaker will be Maureen Carter, author of ‘Ten Pounds for Paradise’. A ‘Ten Pound Pom’, she covers the effect of migration and family tragedy as she takes control of her new life in Australia.
March marks our Friendship Day. We have invited Paul Sheaffe from the Garden Clubs of Australia as our special guest. He is the GCA Director of Communications and also a committee member of the Caringbah Garden Club. He will be accompanied by some members of said club to help us celebrate.
April’s speaker will be Ann McLachlan who will cover bonsais.
Meetings are held every first Saturday of the month at the RWC. Registration starts at 9:30 am for a 10 am start with the guest speaker. Morning tea follows before regular club business. We have raffles, flower/plant competitions and a seed/ cutting/seedling sales table. Meetings end at 12 noon.

C Grade HCP Champion – Pat Collins
The Lawson Cup against Blacktown Workers Club was contested at Springwood GC and this was not a particularly good result for us as we were soundly beaten by Blacktown Workers 37.1 points to 33.4 points.
In November, we contested the Hogan McKeough Sheild against Canberra Labour Club at Highlands GC. This again was not the ideal result we were looking for, as we were beaten once again by 7 matches to 1.
The President’s Cup was played for at Camden GC on 9-11-25 and was won by the Club President himself, John Varrica. Over 20 years, John had won every championship on offer at least once but needed this trophy to complete the career grand slam. Putting his administrational duties to the side and concentrating on his golf, John was able to finally come through with the win.
The Guzzlers Cup was contested at Wollongong GC on 11-11-25 and the battle for all the qualifiers was fierce. As they say, the cream always comes to the top and Mark Donovan was able to come away with the victory.
Other results to date were:
12-10-25 – Woodville GC – Winner –Santo Sammarco 70 Nett
19-10-25 – Macarthur Grange GC – Santo Sammarco & Matt Campbell 60.75 points 16-11-25 – Camden GC – John Varrica 40pts c/b
23-11-25 – Wollongong GC – Mark Donovan – 41 pts c/b
7-12-25 – Campbelltown GC – Mark McDonald 46pts
14-12-25 – Brighton Lakes GC – Claude Poletti & Dean Heffernan 62.25pts
The 2025 awards presentation function was held on the 14th of December at

Revesby Greens Bowling Club. 36 players were in attendance, and everyone had a great time. The food was amazing and was washed down by the members utilizing the free bar tab put on by the committee. Some much needed funds were raised through initiatives such as a raffle, closest coin to the bottle and a chipping competition.
Congratulations to all of the members that won awards, and to the organising committee for putting on such a great day to finish off the year.
Thanks must also go to the Revesby Workers' Club board for their generous support of this longstanding social club which enables it to survive and provide a great outlet for exercise, social wellbeing, great competition and a sense of community belonging.
The committee wishes all the members and their families a Merry Xmas and a fantastic 2026 and see you all back on January 18th at Macquarie Links GC for the start of another great season of golf and camaraderie.
Keep swinging and keep happy,
John Varrica President

Summer Season in Full Swing at Revesby Workers' Swim Club
The summer season is well underway, and Revesby Workers Swim Club swimmers are making waves. Each year, the summer calendar is jam-packed, and this season is no exception. Here’s a look at some of the highlights so far.
Metro South West (MSW) Long Course Championships
Held at the end of October, the MSW Championships saw 41 of our swimmers compete with outstanding results. Collectively, they earned 6 gold, 16 silver, and 24 bronze medals. Special congratulations to gold medallist’s Jasmine Bochenek, Jiazi Chen, Ruby Faanu, and Jamiee Hugo! Across the weekend, our swimmers achieved a remarkable 115 top-10 finishes — a fantastic effort by all.
2025 Metro South West Open Water Championship
Our open water swimmers delivered fantastic performances, including several first-time national qualifiers. Highlights included Lola Pittams winning the girls 15-year 5km swim and earning her first national qualification for open water; Maclaren Derwent took second place in
the boys 16-year 7.5km event; and Aria Simpson secured third in the girls 11-13year 2.5km swim. Impressively, all Revesby Workers swimmers finished within the top 15 of their respective events and age groups.
2025/2026 NSW Youth Metropolitan Championships
At the two-day NSW Youth Metro Championships in November, eleven RWSC swimmers competed with great success. Liliane Crosbie (12 years) earned a gold medal in the 100m backstroke and two silver medals in the 50m butterfly and 200m backstroke—a true testament to her dedication. Overall, our swimmers achieved 16 personal bests during the event. Well done to everyone involved.
2025-2026

2025 NSW Open Water Championships
Our swimmers continued to excel at this high-level meet. Congratulations to Thomas Valassis for taking first place in the boys 15 years 5km and third in the 7.5km, and to Lola Pittams who secured second in the girls 15 years 5km. Other top-10 finishers were Ryder Pittams (4th, 5km, 13 years), Maclaren Derwent (4th, 5km and 9th, 7.5km, 16 years), and Jennifer Tzikas (7th, 5km, 15 years). Sofia Hughes swam amazingly and as a result became a first-time national open water qualifier! We also recognise the strong efforts of Analise Nicotra, Charlotte Saliba, and Aria Simpson.
Looking Ahead
Our swimmers eagerly anticipate the 2026 Revesby Workers Long Course Qualifying Meet on 18 January at the Murray Rose Aquatic & Fitness Centre, Cranbrook School. This meet promises excitement, fun, and some fast times.
The following weekend, our open water
national team will head to Bunbury, Western Australia, to compete at the 2026 Australian Open Water Championships. Best wishes to Jennifer Tzikas, Lola Pittams, Sofia Hughes, Jaimee Hugo, Riona Endo, Maclaren Derwent, Thomas Valassis, and Ryder Pittams.
The highlight of the swimming calendar is fast approaching in April - the 2026 Australian Age and Multi-Class Age Championships in the Gold Coast. This prestigious event brings together Australia’s finest junior swimmers across multiple age categories. We eagerly anticipate strong performances from our swimmers on this national stage.
A Shout-Out to Our Head Coach
Behind every successful swimmer is a dedicated coach. Brendan’s selfless commitment—whether at early morning squads, afternoon sessions, or competitions—ensures our swimmers always give their best. His guidance and support are invaluable to our young athletes’ growth and achievements.
The Revesby Workers' Swim Club sincerely thanks Brendan for his continued dedication.
Until next time!
