With this in mind, we’re shining a spotlight on the foreign born in the US who make up the fabric of our country in the same spirit. What was your journey to the US like?

It was a humbling journey as I always wanted to live in America. They have movies and entertainment all throughout the Middle East, and it also seemed like a great place to live and raise a family.

How old were you when you moved to the US?

What did you miss most about your country of origin?

The journey was exciting, but also sad to leave the majority of my family in Ecuador.

The landscape and the wonders that came along with Jordan. Jordan is very regal and has perfect architecture. I also lived in Dubai, and I miss the beautiful skyscrapers and landscape there as well.

Most surprising/unexpected thing about the US?

I was 49 years old.

What was your journey to the US like?

What did you miss most about your country of origin? The delicious food!

Most surprising/unexpected thing about the US? How clean and organized the US is!

We celebrate a lot of holidays for pretty much anything. National Bestfriend Day, National Donut Day, Boss’ Day...to name a few.

Where do you want to visit in the US that you haven’t yet?

How old were you when you moved to the US?

I like watching travel shows, and I really want to visit the Grand Canyon. It looks beautiful on TV and I want to stand there one day and take it all in!

BONUS Question: What’s your favorite 4th of July recipe? / what do you make on 4th of July? I usually BBQ for July 4th, but my wife makes really good shrimp and vegetable egg rolls.

I moved to the US from Hong Kong with my parents when I was 18 years old.

What was your journey to the US like? My journey was interesting because I was born in Guangzhou and moved to Hong Kong when I was a child. While living in Hong Kong, my parents submitted an application for a US Visa which took 10 years to be approved. We decided to move to New York, because that was where my uncle lived, and I enrolled in high school to learn English. After one year of high school, I wanted to continue my education so I went to community college. Today, I am glad to say my English is much better and I am a business owner!

What did you miss most about your country of origin? I miss my friends and family back home the most. I also miss celebrating Chinese New Year because in China they celebrate for a whole month!

Most surprising/unexpected thing about the US? The thing that surprised me the most 5

What was your journey to the US like? My father was working in New Jersey as an electrician on a work visa, and once he completed his citizenship papers, he sent for my mother and my siblings to come to America.

What did you miss most about your country of origin? I miss the weather and the people (they are so humble, and hardworking). The seasons there are majestic, and each season reminds me of different activities my family used to do.

Most surprising/unexpected thing about the US? Everything in America is surprising! The educational system, infrastructure, and certain freedoms that get taken for granted here are not available in Bangladesh.

I’d like to visit the monuments in Washington D.C. I’d like to see the nation’s capital, and experience the history of presidents.

I usually purchase fireworks, or take my family downtown to view them and enjoy any celebrations in our city!

I moved to the US when I was 18 years old.

It started as a spontaneous trip for a few weeks, but then I decided to stay and start a family.

What did you miss most about your country of origin? I miss my family the most, especially my brothers and sisters.

Most surprising/unexpected thing about the US? Having the opportunity to start a business! Being a business owner was a dream when I was in my home country.
