Lisa Furtado is a San Francisco Bay Area designer who began her residential design firm following a career in clinical research and biotechnology. Her aesthetic is traditionally rooted with a modern edge, striving to balance timeless beauty with fresh, unexpected elements. Guided by the belief that “if everyone loves it, you played it too safe,” her work reflects a confident, thoughtful approach to design. Lisa is known for layering pieces with historical references alongside modern, unexpected elements to create beautifully curated spaces. Lisa was named an HGTV Designer of the Year in 2020 and 2023, and her work has been featured in Domino, Apartment Therapy, Rue, and the cover of Australia’s Home Beautiful.

LISA FURTADO’S VINTAGE LOUNGE
Inspired by the seductive, cinematic glamour of late-1970s interiors, Lisa Furtado’s My Rowe Design space is a study in bold beauty and modern mood-making. Velvet upholstery and expressive pattern unfold in a palette of dusty lavender and rich cranberry, creating a room that feels unapologetically dramatic, yet exquisitely refined. Even before guests step inside, it is easy to imagine the magnetic feminine presence Lisa envisioned as her inspiration: “the kind of woman who walks quietly and slowly into a room, but draws all the attention. She loves bold and artful surroundings, not to impress, but because she knows that design and good lighting can create an experience.” That vision comes fully alive in this alluring setting, where pattern and color combine to create an experience that’s moody, glamorous, and just a bit rebellious.

At the heart of the space sits the Kindred Square Cocktail Table, a favorite of the designer and the conceptual anchor for the entire room. Its substantial cylindrical bases—wrapped in meticulously crafted reeded detailing and crowned with smoked glass—strike a balance between masculine structure and feminine curves. The table serves as a social gathering point, surrounded by pairs of Atticus and Bernie Chairs and a generously scaled 110” Adler Sofa that invite reclining and long conversations that linger into the night.
“The sultry, sculptural cocktail table balances masculine structure with feminine curves.”

As Lisa describes an imagined evening in the space, “vinyl records are playing slow and sultry in the background as [our hostess] sips champagne from a coupe, surrounded by friends who are wildly different but all interesting and interested in each other.” In every layer, her My Rowe Design space channels a vintage sensuality that feels sophisticated and undeniably intoxicating.

I love going to beautiful boutique hotels and bustling cozy cafes, especially in Europe, and studying the materials, transitions and furniture arrangements to determine what makes people so drawn to these spaces.

Design for longevity: a timeless foundation, a sprinkle of trend
Scale before style: if the proportions are wrong, it will never feel right
