W Design Collective

Marianne Brown

Salt Lake City, UT

wdesigncollective

Marianne Brown is the founder and principal designer of W Design Collective, a Salt Lake City, Utah–based firm known for crafting enduring, soulful spaces. Self‑taught and drawn to design through her own home renovations, Marianne founded W Design Collective in 2011. Since then, it has evolved into a thriving fourteen‑person studio that specializes in new construction and full‑service design, and recently expanded into product design in 2024. Her work reflects a belief that design is an ongoing dialogue between architecture and atmosphere, between the past and what’s yet to come. That perspective continues to shape W Design Collective’s mission to create enduring spaces and experiences that reflect their clients, honor the principles of sound architecture, and celebrate the soulfulness of home.

The Comforts of Home

W DESIGN COLLECTIVE’S TIMELESS SITTING ROOM

Inspired by the warmth and classic feel of a family home, Marianne envisioned her My Rowe Design as a space meant to nurture everyday moments. Divided into two distinct areas, her design pairs a library/sitting room with a dining area that feels cozy and multigenerational. “I imagine a couple, maybe with a few kids,” says the designer, “spending time together here doing the simple things of the day—whether that’s sitting in the library reading, or eating and chatting in the breakfast nook.” Taupe grasscloth and deep charcoal walls act as a warm, textured backdrop, while brass and marble accents add a refined note. Groupings of artwork with wall mounted lighting and woven rugs in natural shades anchor each space, creating a look that feels both nostalgic and modern.

“The Moreau Sofa is the hero of the room.”

I WANTED SOMETHING THAT FELT

BOTH COZY AND CLASSIC— A SPACE YOU WANT TO SIT IN AND STAY FOR A WHILE.

In the dining nook, a Finch Slipcovered Dining Banquette in family friendly performance cotton sets a casual tone for daily living, elevated by two Odessa Dining Chairs in luxe brown velvet. Just beyond, the sitting area invites relaxed lounging with an eclectic but complementary pairing of our Madeline Chair in tan windowpane plaid and our Emmerson Swivel Chair in brown floral. Marianne notes the Moreau Sofa as a favorite piece in the space, perfectly lounge ready with the comfort of our Bliss cushion and slipcovered in a serene shade of navy with a white windowpane check. “I love how it has character and a nod to a classic piece with the slight roll arm, but it’s a more modern version.”

Sources of Inspiration

I love looking at the past and using it to inspire a new way of interpreting old designs. I love touring old houses and looking through past design books and magazines; I’m fascinated with what still works and what has not aged as well.

Room to Design

The cozy rooms—libraries, small living rooms, craft rooms, and loft areas.

Travel Destination

I have a few: Sun Valley, Idaho; Southern California; Provence and Paris.

Music to Fuel Creativity

I love all types of music, although I lean towards the indie version of genres— indie rap, indie pop, folk and country. I like it all, but if I really need to focus, I put on instrumental or soundtrack music because the words can distract me.

Make it a little weird; I like spaces that have a touch of quirk

Rule of three for accent colors

Use natural materials like woods, linens, cottons, marbles

“I’m loving the custom ottomans and the Othello Octagon Storage Ottoman. I love the unique shape and that it’s a storage piece .”
Othello

40" Octagon Storage Ottoman

Vary your lighting with art lights, sconces, pendants and lamps

Show your personality— don’t hide away accessories, art, books, antiques, photos, dishes and memorabilia, even if they're not “perfect” for the space

Modern Vintage Home

Co founded by Rachel Carosiello and Ann Marie Ryan, Modern Vintage Home is a boutique luxury design firm located in Moorestown, New Jersey. Through a series of entrepreneurial evolutions, this dynamic duo has been working together since 2014 and launched Modern Vintage Home in 2018. As business partners and best friends, the designers view their creative synergy as their superpower and love to create unique spaces that reflect their clients’ personalities and lifestyle. Their work has been featured in Design NJ and has graced the cover of Philadelphia Home + Design.

Cozy Atmosphere

MODERN VINTAGE HOME’S MOODY LOUNGE

Rachel and Ann Marie envisioned their My Rowe Design as a warm, enveloping space perfect for gathering. “We wanted it to be somewhere you would want to spend hours in,” the designers explain, “whether in conversation with family or friends or curled up with a book in front of the fireplace.” With walls wrapped in black sisal and a faux fireplace clad in black marble wallpaper, the room embraces a moody, evocative palette while remaining deeply inviting. Overhead, three bubble chandeliers float above the seating area, their sculptural forms adding a playful, midcentury inspired note that echoes the vintage modern aesthetic of the furnishings below.

WE WANTED TO CREATE A MOOD THAT FELT WARM AND ENVELOPING, IN A SPACE THAT WOULD ENCOURAGE CONVERSATION.

At the heart of the room, a pair of Adler Sofas upholstered in dark brown velvet face one another across a cocktail table, joined by two cozy shearling Pfifer Chairs and a Miles Long Ottoman in a configuration perfectly suited to entertaining. In the corner, a Leander Swivel Chair in garnet velvet offers a quieter spot for solo moments. Layered pillows in linen, velvet and richly toned prints add texture and warmth. “We wanted it to be a space that is beautiful but functional,” say Rachel and Ann Marie of their luxe yet family friendly living room, “the space where everyone would gather and gravitate towards, the place in their home they most want to be.”

Modern Vintage Home’s Favorites

Sources of Inspiration

A lot of times we will see something in a traditional form and visualize how to use it another way. For example, we used a vintage coffee table and turned it into a desk by adding new legs. [Or we might] take a cabinet that is traditionally in a bedroom and use it in a bar.

Room to Design

We love to design family rooms because they are the heart of the home, and it is so fun to make them functional and beautiful at the same time.

Travel Destination

We went to Paris last spring and, oh my, it was amazing! We aren’t even sure what was our favorite part. We loved it all!

Music to Fuel Creativity

In our studio we generally play calming music, Teddy Swims or something similar! Or, when we are cleaning up after a presentation we play dance music to get us motivated.

Don’t follow trends—if it isn’t “in” it can’t go out!

We always mix styles in our designs, hence our name “Modern Vintage”

Wallpaper is our best friend

“The Kindred Tall Cabinet is so versatile you could use it in a bedroom or in a bar! We think it would be cool to put two next to each other to make an even bigger statement.”

We always have warmth and layering

Statement lighting is a must-have! Some people say it is the jewelry. We think it is the crown jewel

Jewel Box

DANIELLE ROSE DESIGN CO.’S ROMANTIC LIVING ROOM

Danielle Chiprut envisioned her My Rowe Design as a richly layered living room that feels both romantic and deeply personal, a “dreamy, cozy jewel box” where texture, color and light come together to create an immersive atmosphere. An earthy color story of blush, burnished brass and natural wood tones creates a space that feels moody yet soft, eclectic and full of soul. Cozy throws and brass lighting add warmth, while a Kindred Cabinet brings architectural interest with vertically reeded detailing, a subtle nod to the fluted wood panels of the fireplace wall.

“ Finishing Touches

OUR GOAL WAS TO DESIGN A SPACE THAT FEELS IMMERSIVE AND TRANSPORTIVE.

Nestled in a cozy corner near the window is the curvaceous Noel Chaise Chair, which Danielle notes as a favorite for its sculptural presence and timeless floral print. “It anchors the room in a soft, elegant way,” she says, “and adds that collected, slightly unexpected element we’re always drawn to.”

A pair of Cassius Chairs in tan bouclé and the stately Bruges Sofa in rich chocolate velvet complete the seating area, rounding out Danielle’s vision of a space designed for lounging, entertaining and unwinding. “It is exactly how we imagine living every day,” says the designer, “[from] slow mornings with coffee in hand and sunlight filtering through layered drapery [to] late night conversations by candlelight with music playing softly in the background.”

Danielle Rose Design Co.’s Favorites

Sources of Inspiration

We are deeply inspired by fine art and fashion. Romantic oil paintings, moody color palettes, vintage textiles, and historic interiors all influence the way we layer materials and shape a room. Travel is also a constant source of inspiration, especially places where patina, texture, and time tell a story.

Room to Design

The kitchen. It is the heart of the home and where beauty meets function in the most dynamic way. We love balancing architectural details, cabinetry, lighting, and materials to create something that feels both elevated and deeply personal.

Travel Destination

Europe. We are endlessly inspired by the warmth, the history, and the way materials age beautifully over time. The layered architecture, natural stone, rich patina, and effortless mix of old and new always influence our work. There is a romance and depth that feels both grounded and elevated, which we continually strive to bring into our own designs.

Music to Fuel Creativity

We gravitate toward vibey folk and soulful rock like Alabama Shakes and Jack White. It is moody, layered, and full of depth, and it often sets the emotional tone in our studio while shaping the atmosphere we design toward.

“We absolutely love the Bruges Sofa we used in this space. We are especially drawn to its tailored lines and the turned legs with casters, which give it such a refined, collected feel.”

Layer, then layer again; texture is everything

Mix metals thoughtfully, but never match too perfectly

Always include something vintage or unexpected

Don’t be afraid of deep color, it creates intimacy

Comfort is non-negotiable, and beauty should always feel livable
