we scour for solutions so your bridge doesn’t.

We will work together to deliver the tools and expertise you need to achieve your bridge hydraulics and bridge scour goals.

How can respec help you?

What we offer:

Taking projects from scour analysis and countermeasure design through constructure, we’re your go-to resource for bridge design- and repair-related needs. We have delivered large-scale scour countermeasure implementation projects by quick scour repair designs to address flood damage by using different delivery processes.

We have developed over 200 Plans of Action (POAs) for

scour critical bridges in accordance with Federal Highway Administration requirements, including HEC-18 and HEC-

23 guidance. Our team implements US Geological Survey (USGS) protocols to rapidly estimate scour at highway

bridges based on limited site data. We can provide you with the following services:

// Hydraulic Surveys // Hydrologic Analysis

We currently provide support for multiple state Departments of Transportation (DOTS), including Colorado, New Mexico, and South Dakota.

// HEC-RAS and SRH-2D Hydraulic Modeling // Rapid Scour Analysis

// Detailed Scour Analysis Using HEC-18 // Scour Countermeasure Designs and Cost Estimates // Scour Monitoring Recommendations.

Our scour analysis expertise has led to DOT requests for RESPEC to develop scour procedure documents; scour

countermeasure construction plans, including emergency repairs; and post-flood scour inspections. RESPEC has

designed and provided construction observation services for a wide variety of scour countermeasures, including

grade-control structures, guide banks, bendway weirs, riprap armoring, and slope stabilization.

“RESPEC has provided engineering services for the State’s Scour Critical Bridge program since 2010. In the past 4.5 years have been at CDOT Staff Hydraulics, they have delivered scour analysis and designs for well over 100 bridges located across all five regions of the state. I would highly recommend RESPEC to any agency looking for a dedicated, repsonsive team who delivers consistent, high-quality products with exceptional customer service. —Alfred Gross, PE, Staff Hydraulic Engineer Project Support, Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT)

// flood response projects // south dakota dot (SDDOT) RESPEC is providing on-call hydraulic design services for SDDOT, including bridge scour analysis, bridge scour countermeasure design, and wetland delineation services. For each bridge, RESPEC provides hydrologic analysis, hydraulic modeling, scour calculations and scour envelopes, and a determination of whether or not the bridge is scour critical. For bridges determined to be scour critical, RESPEC provides scour countermeasure designs, wetland mitigation plans, and floodplain permit support.

RESPEC supports CDOT with flood response and recovery efforts in northern Colorado. RESPEC

commenced support work in 2013, immediately after the severe flood

event occurrred. Site investigations and assessments of more than

100 bridges were completed to

evaluate hydraulic conditions and scour/erosion damage.

Using these assessments, the bridges were categorized based on scour severity. Over 60 of the evaluated structures were determined to need some level of scour repair because of

the flood event. RESPEC’s initial efforts focused on providing

design of scour repairs and construction support services for

34 bridges to ensure that construction was completed before 2014 spring runoff. RESPEC completed scour repair designs and developed construction plans for 31 flood-damaged

// New mexico DOT (NMDOT) As part of an on-call contract, RESPEC has provided the following services to NMDOT: // // // // //

bridges located in seven counties. We are providing ongoing construction support while implementing the scour repairs.

// Bridge replacement projects RESPEC has performed hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, bridge sizing, pier

geometry, floodplain characteristics, local channel improvements, and stormwater management plans for numerous

interstates and state highway bridge

replacement projects. We perform designs in conjunction with DOT staff and other

consultants. Some projects completed by RESPEC in Colorado include:

// minnesota dot (MnDOT) MnDOT’s MnROAD pavement test track is used to find ways to make roads last longer, perform better, and have minimal impact on the environment, all in a costeffective and expedited manner. Knowing MnDOT’s need for precise measurements, RESPEC proposed a video monitoring solution called Video GaugeTM. This technology provides measurement versatility far beyond any other technology on the market and has many benefits that ultimately save MnDOT time and money. MnDOT will use RESPEC’s video monitoring system to enhance the way they measure pavement deflections. The system adds the capability to measure surface deflections in more locations on the road (previously, only the edge of the pavement could be measured) and adds the capability to measure lateral displacements (only vertical displacement could be measured before).

// Other dot services RESPEC currently offers a variety of services to DOTs, including program support for CDOT’s Municipal

Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4) permit, information technology services for Idaho DOT, ecological and

hydrologic analyses for Montana DOT, and pavement monitoring services for MnDOT.
