Some of San Marco’s hometown heroes shared their Olympic journeys and experiences in the latest installment of the San Marco Centennial Lecture Series.
It was winner take all (bragging rights) as the Merchants and Residents faced off on the diamond in a friendly ballgame last month. Friends, families and neighbors cheered on familiar faces and local celebrities on both teams’ rosters as they took to the Hendricks Avenue Baseball field on Saturday, Aug. 16 as part of the San Marco Centennial celebrations. Fatalities Drive Expanded Enforcement Within the first 10 days of the new school year, three Duval County Public Schools students were struck by vehicles – one accident claiming the life of a young teenager. The tragedy has spurred urgent calls for action from DCPS Board Member Cindy Pearson, who is pushing drivers, parents, and the community to “Do better, Duval!” As Jacksonville marks its 100th traffic fatality of the year, school officials, city leaders, and JSO are stepping up efforts to curb dangerous driving and improve pedestrian safety through expanded enforcement, awareness campaigns, and upcoming town halls.
