Ramped-up Enforcement Underway for Derelict Vessels
The Jacksonville community celebrated the grand opening of the Emerald Trail's 1.3-mile LaVilla Link, connecting Brooklyn to LaVilla and the existing S-line.
The Riverside Avenue resurfacing project is slated to begin this summer, following last year's community feedback to add traffic-calming features in the Avondale shopping district.
New legislation proposing larger fines and shorter removal timelines for derelict or abandoned vessels could be in front of City Council as early as this summer.

The Jacksonville History Center presented its 2024 Endangered Historic Properties list at a brown bag lunch event on Wednesday, May 22 at Old St. Andrew’s Church. The annual list highlights the historic structures in Jacksonville that are at risk of being lost to the community. This year, the list consists of more than 25 structures. Jacksonville History Center CEO Alan Bliss said he was encouraged by the number of people who attended this year’s lunch event, held every May in recognition of National Historic Preservation Month.
