In 2016, the historic Goodwin House was disassembled in 2016 after the land was sold to a developer. Underneath siding and additions to the house, the original log cabin emerged. The logs were saved to ensure they are put back in order when it is rebuilt.

The city added approximately 2,000 residents to its population with the annexation of the LaVista Park neighborhood south of I-85 and Executive Park. The City Council voted unanimously Dec. 10 to annex the mostly residential area

that includes 601 single-family homes, two apartment complexes and eight commercial parcels across some 330 acres. The annexation went into effect immediately and city staff lit up “Welcome to Brookhaven” traffic message board signs at intersections into the neighborhood immediately following the vote. “I’m really excited for your energy to See RESIDENTS on page 22

Three years after it was taken apart piece by piece for redevelopment, DeKalb County’s oldest house is sitting in storage somewhere mysterious, awaiting a new home. The 1830s Goodwin House has been replaced with a 3-story medical building under construction on Peachtree Road in Brookhaven. The historical marker erected at the house in 1954 as part of a state’s commemoration of the Civil War apparently was removed during construction. And a former owner worries another piece of local history is being forgotten. “It’s been a few years and I am still really sorry I couldn’t preserve it for the next seven generations, but that’s not how Atlanta rolls,” said Lynda Martin, the great-greatgreat-great granddaughter of Solomon Goodwin, an early owner of the house.
