Our first project opened in 2010 with Pie-Face Pizza Co, which was later renamed to Noble Pie Parlor due to a trademarking issue. Pignic Pub & Patio, as a concept, was born purely by thinking about where we have made our fondest memories and how we like to spend our free time. For us, these memories were made relaxing on a deck or a porch eating BBQ with our closest friends and family while enjoying frosty beer or delicious cocktail. Creating this kind of every day atmosphere with the capability for customizable private and semi private events has been one of our greatest pleasures.

The most inspiring part about the work that we do is that we get to be a contributing member to our greater community. There are so many exciting things on the horizon for Reno. We feel privileged to be doing our part in aiding a more diverse and creative place to dine and entertain. Pignic Pub & Patio is a truly unique environment and bar. There are other places with similar elements elsewhere in the U.S., but there is only one Pignic and it is in Reno, NV where it belongs.

very year, for more than two decades, the Reno News & Review has conducted a Best of Northern Nevada readers’ poll. We ask our readers to vote online for their favorite people, places and things in this wonderful and strange community. Categories range from “best dry cleaners” to “best local comedian,” and from “best dentist” to “best sports bar.” We put a lot of work to curb ballot-stuffing, and this year, 5,093 verified voters cast 99,289 votes among the 344 categories. We announced the winners a couple of months ago, but this winners’ guide is a chance to get to know them a little bit better through our winners’ surveys. Evergreen Carpet Care was started in 1997 by Dale & Nicole Carter. When Evergreen was formed great customer service was always the foundation. In 2003 we started to expand from Truckee to RENO. It quickly went from one machine that I ran to the 20 vans we have on the road today. Still today the foundation is wholly based on customer service and satisfaction. As we have grown that was and is still the top priority!

To this day we are inspired by making Evergreen the best company it can possibly be, and we do that by constantly listening to our customers and also making it the best possible place to work for our many employees.

Well this might be a tough one, we don’t want to give away too many secrets, wink wink! But if there is one piece of advice I could give to other businesses trying to achieve the highest honors it would be, treat your customers right and absolutely treat your employees right. Hire managers etc.....that share your vision, which hopefully is full of integrity and great values.

We feel we may have been Voted Best Carpet Cleaning Company in Northern Nevada because of our constant commitment to our customers. We call every customer back within 48 hours. Whether we were in 35 homes or 95 homes that day, we will call to make sure you were completely satisfied. We don’t claim to be perfect, but if we come up short of your expectations, we will go the extra mile to make you happy.

I started serving food and bartending in college when I lost my job at an equipment company after September 11, 2001. There was a chain restaurant opening up near UNR and I always envied my roommates tips and 5 hour work day as a food server. Soon after, I realized how fun and rewarding this industry could be.

What inspires you to go to Work every day? The creativity this job allows me makes it easy to go to work. Tasting different food and wine from all over the world has really opened my eyes. I like to joke that I just show up to see what 3 lunch specials we have for the day. The people I work with are great and the atmosphere is amazing. I have never had the same day in over 11 years.

What makes your business different than your competitors? We are different from our competitors because we have created an atmosphere that keeps the staff and customers around for years. The people who work here truly love what they do and if they didn’t, I wouldn’t be here telling you about them. Menu aside, the same faces day in and day out are not common in this industry. WE have a handful of servers who have been here 10-20 years. People feel at home here, and it is not an accident.

any advice for people Who Want to make their business “the best”? Try to do something better today than you did yesterday. We have been here 39 years, but we are always finding new and better ways to bring our creations to the public. Resting on your reputation.

wHat inspires you to go to work every day?

18 years now.

It’s really difficult to narrow that down to any one thing. My job is so rewarding on so many levels, the smile on a patient’s face after repairing their child’s cleft lip, the excitement after a patient sees their new look after a great aug or a tummy tuck. The pride you feel knowing a patient trusts you with a very important and personal event- their surgery. No two surgeries are the same, you never stop learning or trying to perfect your craft. Sometimes it’s stressful, sometimes it’s awe-inspiring, but it’s always rewarding.

wHat do you specialize in? My specialty is breast augmentation. I perform more breast augmentations than any other procedure. I take great pride when patients come to my office and tell me that they came to see me because my post-operative pictures were the best they had seen. I love to see patients’ faces light up after their surgery, they love their new shape, and their confidence soars. They feel so good about themselves. It makes my job very rewarding.

DIFFERENT THAN YOUR I have been bartending and managing bars since before I joined the Army in 1992, including a year managing a nightclub in Las Vegas COMPETITORS? and helping to set up a lounge in Shanghai for an American investor in 2001. In 2005 5 Star Saloon, now the longest running LGBT lounge in Nevada, went on the market, and my former partner and I jumped at the opportunity to be involved in a business that represents inclusiveness and equality in the Reno community.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO GO TO WORK EVERY DAY?

What inspires me is how much 5 Star has enabled me to become involved in Reno and to host a Public Space that brings the community together. From our mid-week Karaoke nights with amazing friends, to our wall-to-wall weekend parties offering great music and a safe atmosphere to play, to hosting charity events with our nonprofit community partners, 5 Star is a center of activity for both our LGBT family and the wider Reno community with progressive views and a desire for equality. 5 Star Saloon represents a great many wonderful – and sometimes tragic – memories from over 45 years of history for many in the LGBT community, and is an integral part of the story of America. As I head into my 11th year of ownership in 2017, the ongoing historic positive changes across the nation highlight how far we have traveled together, and keep me excited for the future.

Our focus on active involvement in the Reno community, and our consistent efforts to promote equality and integration, contribute to the culture of positivity for which 5 Star is famous. 5 Star also has very flexible programming: able to morph from laid-back lounge to high-energy dance club with the flick of a switch (okay, ten switches!). Having people go out of their way to let you know that it is the BEST pizza, wings, salad, etc that they have ever had or ever had outside of New York is a truly amazing feeling. It also hurts deeply when people are unhappy with the product. We can’t be everything to everyone, but we take it very personally and we try our best to make improvements on a daily basis.

I believe that the readers and this community have had a huge void in their options for fast, quality food in the downtown area (especially late at night). We take an incredible level of pride to tweaking and

re-tweaking all of the recipes, processes, and scrutiny of which suppliers we use and product we accept. The tomatoes for the sauce are San Marzano. The meats are Boar’s Head and are sliced daily. Our flour in a blend and quality that only our shop purchases (to my knowledge).

WHAT MAKES YOUR BUSINESS DIFFERENT THAN YOUR COMPETITORS? Well for one we are in the shop a lot actually working or just there making sure the food and the service is of the highest quality and consistency. We take a lot of time to hand-make items that other shops get delivered to them. A meatball or sausage that is made from scratch in house tastes a lot different than a meatball that has been made in a huge batch and shipped frozen. Not only is our food a cut above, but we also take time to make sure we have some great artisan beers and hand selected wines mostly from small family owned vineyards.
