Organisasie vra dorpe om dit self te doen
AFRIFORUM: (Deur - Alet Rademeyer) Daar is nie meer ’n enkele dorp in die land waar daar nie soveel slaggate is dat inwoners letterlik swenk-swenk bestuur nie. Infrastruktuur en dienslewering onder die ANC-regering het só verval dat gemeenskappe geen ander keuse het as om self moue op te rol om veral slaggate te herstel nie. Slaggate is landwyd ’n groot krisis wat al tot vele ongelukke en die dood van verskeie mense gelei het. Daarbenewens word skade aan voertuie weens gevaarlike slaggate daagliks op die land se paaie aangerig. AfriForum en vrywilligers het die afgelope paar jaar reeds duisende slaggate opgevul en ’n reuseverskil gemaak. Die uitgangspunt is: Jy kan kla, of jy kan deel van die oplossing wees. Vandeesmaand daag AfriForum al sy takke weer uit om te kyk watter tak die meeste slaggate in tien dae in Mei kan herstel. Die taklede en vrywilligers wat die beste vaar, sal met ’n aansporingsbonus vir hul takke beloon word. AfriForum sal ook deurlopend foto’s op sy sosialemedia-platforms plaas sodat die res van die land kan sien hoe dit lyk waar en wanneer gemeenskapslede hande vat. Die vereistes vir die slaggate wat gevul moet word, is groter as 300 mm x 300 mm. Slaggate is nie net in klein dorpies en op die meerderheid van die land se paaie ’n probleem nie. In Johannesburg is dit ook ’n enorme krisis. Burgemeester Geoffrey Makhubo het vanoggend dié stad se Pothole Patrol-inisiatief op William Nicol-rylaan bekendgestel. Die metroraad pak die inisiatief in samewerking met Discovery en Dialdirect aan. Jacob Mamabolo, Gautengse LUR vir paaie en vervoer, het inwoners van die stad verlede maand om verskoning gevra vir ’n enorme gat op die hoek van Beyers Naudé-rylaan en Lewishamstraat in Randburg wat motoriste hoofbrekens besorg het. VKB-Reitz, how ‘green’ can you go?

REITZ: May is National Energy Month in South Africa. “Take a shower instead of a bath. Don't fill the kettle - only boil the water that you need.” This is just something each individual or household can contribute on a small scale to conserve energy, but yet, remember, every bit helps and will make a tremendous difference to a greener and cleaner future. On Tuesday 11 May 2021 the VKB headquarters, situated in the heart of the Eastern Free State, Reitz, showed the public a birds-eye example of how they contribute towards this. As an entity that works daily with nature and most especially its resources, they believe in the popular saying: “Lead by example!” A spokesperson of VKB said: “At VKB we believe in a sustainable future. The solar PV system at VKB’s Head Office produced 206 416 kWh of clean electricity in 2020. This was enough to supply 55% of the building’s total electricity consumption. The equivalent carbon emissions saving is 196 tons of CO2.” Well done VKB!

Courtesy: SABC South Africans will be going to the polls for the local government elections on Wednesday, 27 October. The Presidency announced the date in a media statement on Wednesday evening. This will be the sixth time under South Africa’s democratic dispensation that voters will elect leadership and public representatives at metropolitan, district and local level. “The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs will follow the necessary legal process to proclaim the date and undertake other requirements. The President urges eligible – and especially first-time voters – to ensure they are registered to participate in the elections which provide the basis for development and
service delivery closest to where citizens live,” reads the Presidency statement. The confirmation of the date ends speculation as to whether there would be a postponement of elections as proposed by the EFF. Lately, some opposition parties have been calling for the elections to be postponed, especially the EFF, which had proposed for the election to be held at a later date, due to COVID-19. The EFF said most political parties were unable to properly campaign due to lockdown restrictions on holding gatherings. Political parties were, however, divided on the matter. While some supported the EFF’s call – others slammed it saying it would create a constitutional crisis for municipal governments.
Independent Candidates to contest election Communities will be able to vote this year for the first time for an independent candidate with no political alliance in the upcoming election. This follows last year’s Constitutional Court ruling that the Electoral Act was unconstitutional, a legal move that is set to change the political landscape in South Africa as it opens the door for independent candidates to stand for national and provincial elections without affiliation to any political party. people could now choose influential people in their communities to lead them and depoliticise council. Section 15 (a) of the independent electoral commissions Act of 1996 allows for an organisation or movement to participate in municipal elections in a specific municipality, without being registered as a traditional political party with political party structures. Using this provision, residents can prepare for independent candidates to stand for election in various wards, while also registering as a conglomerate of independent candidates to gain the benefit of the proportional representation (PR) vote.

Proper Identification If the unthinkable happens and your little guy or gal gets lost — youngsters in particular are prone to dashing out the door — having proper identification is the key to a happy ending. Start with the basics: a safe collar, and a tag that contains all of your contact information. In addition to an ID tag, microchipping your pet is advisable, because there's always the chance a collar will fall off. The microchip, an electronic device about the size and shape of a grain of rice, is implanted under your pet's skin and can be read by a scanner that pulls up your identification information. A combination of these forms of identification will go a long way to reuniting you and your beloved pet, but only if you keep your contact information up-to-date. Be sure to change your information on file with the microchip if you have a change in address or phone number.

Ingredients •
1 package (16 ounces) dried green split peas, rinsed

(GNB) Why are you making a commotion and weeping? (ESV) Jesus praat hier met die roubeklaers voor Jairus se huis waar sy dogtertjie gesterf het. Dis nie vir hulle nodig om te rou nie, want daar is ’n groter prentjie wat hulle nog nie raaksien nie. Kom ons dink ’n bietjie oor dié tye en situasies in ons lewe waar ons raas en huil en te kere gaan en ontsteld en vies is as ons voel dinge is buite beheer. Daai geleenthede waar ons ’n “scene” maak as dinge skeef loop, paniekerig rondtas as ons iets verloor of iets moet prysgee, uitbars in trane as ons teleurgestel word, ineenstort van verdriet wanneer ons slegte nuus kry. Wat raas en huil julle so, kan Jesus sekerlik vir ons ook vra. Hy het gebid, op sy vriende se ondersteuning staatgemaak, weer en weer gebid en toe gelate oorgegee omdat Hy geweet het dat sy Vader se wil nou verder sal geskied. Ons is nie bekommerd soos mense wat nie ’n goeie uitkoms verwag nie, ons nie bang soos mense wat nie weet waar hulle hulp en vertroosting vandaan kom nie, ons treur nie soos mense sonder hoop nie (lees 1 Tess. 4:13) Ons kan kalmeer en rustig word - Jesus is hier! “Moet jou nie ontstel nie. New Nissan Navara (2021)
Nissan South Africa has released pricing of its eagerlyanticipated Navara bakkie which is now built in South Africa.

South Africa says the order books are open for the locally-produced Navara, with the first customer units scheduled to come off the production line at the brand's Rosslyn facility in June 2021. Local Navara production has been a long time coming and after 2019's R3billion investment announcement, Nissan bakkie fans can finally smile. “With the introduction of the all-new Navara pickup in South Africa, we are confident that the significant technical changes implemented across our extensive lineup, will deliver the ultimate customer experience, with enhanced ride comfort, load carrying capacity, and a powertrain selected specifically for the South African market,” says Haasbroek. "It’s an amazing achievement to see the full set of exciting models for the next generation Navara which offer customers a choice of both single, and double-cab, 2WD and 4WD options, and a choice of automatic and manual transmissions too,”
Haasbroek said. “This is a fiercely competitive segment, and we are determined to meet and exceed customer needs,” he added. What's on offer? The new Navara aims to please buyers looking for a capable workhorse as well as those looking for a leisure double-cab bakkie. With derivatives ranging from single-cab 4x2 to doublecab 4x4, Nissan is trying to cover all of its bases. There's one engine across the range in two states of tune. The 2.5-litre turbocharged diesel 4-cylinder motor offers up 120 kW and 403 Nm, mated to a choice of either a manual or an automatic gearbox. It's also available with 140 kW and 450 Nm, and is available with a 7-speed automatic. This engine replaces the 2.3-litre twin-turbocharged motor in the previous model.
