For BOSL readers, travel is as much about discovering design inspiration as it is about exploration. Maybe Tomorrow, a highly cinematic coastal region in Second Life, offers a masterclass in modern, minimalist landscape architecture.
Creating a standout tropical retreat in Second Life requires a balance of clean architecture and natural landscaping. At the centre of this featured build is the KraftWork Playa Pool Deck, a versatile foundation that anchors the entire scene.
I designed the surrounding environment to feel like a secluded coastal escape. Framing the deck are layered tropical plants and swaying palm trees that offer privacy, while rolling sand dunes blend the modern pool structure into a realistic, rugged beach landscape.
Instead of cluttering the space, the decor focuses on high-quality, curated pieces from some of SL’s top creators:
Premium Furnishings: Sleek, modern outdoor lounges and recliners that complement the wooden textures of the deck.
Realistic Details: Thoughtfully placed decor—like tropical drinks, beach bags, and ambient lighting that makes the space feel lived-in.
Immersive Atmosphere: A custom windlight setting that maximises the water reflections and enhances the coastal vibe.
The layout takes full advantage of the Playa Pool Deck’s natural geometry to establish distinct functional zones. By following the structural lines of the mesh, I’ve carved out dedicated spaces for socialising in the lounge areas, fine dining under the palms, and quiet sunbathing with a book and a cocktail on the deck’s edge. To complete the resort experience, I integrated the Trompe Loeil - Zaizia Outdoor Shower, which serves as a stylish, functional transition point where guests can rinse off the chlorine and sand before heading to the bar for evening drinks and dinner in the outdoor dining area.
Just steps away from the pool and all the other zones sits the KraftWork Modern Tiki Kitchen. Positioned perfectly to serve the entire deck, it provides a seamless hub for entertaining, allowing guests to grab fresh tropical cocktails, coffee, breakfast, or a casual bite without ever leaving the resort atmosphere. Combining clean, modern lines with classic island materials, the kitchen ties the entire build together, making it easy to transition from a lazy afternoon of sunbathing straight into evening entertaining.
Ultimately, this scene proves that with the right combination of structural mesh and curated decor, a virtual parcel can rival any real-world luxury destination. The fact that this entire oasis was built and decorated on a sky platform proves that your perfect summer destination can truly be created anywhere, regardless of mainland or ground limitations. By grounding the layout in KraftWork’s architectural foundations and layering in realistic tropical landscaping, this space honours the original artistry of the designers while showcasing our freedom as residents. It’s a testament to how we can take world-class SL designs and re-envision them, proving that once these pieces are in our hands, the only limit to the final scene is our own imagination.

He called her first. That was a good sign, she thought. Robert “Robbie” Skydancer and my friend Missy Buttons had been in an onand-off relationship for years now, but we all thought that the last breakup, which happened during their St. Valentine’s date, would be definitive.
“Everybody deserves a second chance,” she told me over tea and crumpets at her house. “Especially Robbie: he’s so cute and lovable!”
I didn’t dare to remind her of the terrible things she said about Robbie that fateful night, when “jerk” was the nicest term she used to describe him. I knew better than to poke what could become a hornet’s nest, so I refrained and simply took a bite of my crumpet, which, by the way, was delicious.
“What are your plans now?” I asked.
“Robbie told me he would take me to a fantastic sim he found the other day,” she responded. “It’s called the Purrcade, and he says there are lots and lots of things to do there, so we are in for a spectacular date this time!”
I wished her well, of course, but took my leave. I didn’t want to start a debate about the wisdom of
reviving a relationship that had, time and again, proven doomed to fail. Before I left, she gave me a landmark for the sim, in case I wanted to take a look too.
I wasn’t sure I wanted to visit a sim deemed as “fantastic” for dates, given my disastrous record in that department the last few months. It’s not that I haven’t dated all this time; the thing is, the gentleman suitors seem to vanish after just a few dates. I don’t know what’s happening. Maybe someone in the control room messed with my algorithm, rendering me undatable. Who knows? The human soul is inscrutable and more so when made up of bits and bytes.
Nevertheless, I decided to visit the place on the off chance that I ever get another date. I thought it was the right decision— exploring that place might help me out of my funk. I landed in what looked like a hub: a circle surrounded by teleporters for destinations as diverse as a mini-golf course, a race track area, and a concert stage. Only later did I discover that place was the base of the Eiffel Tower, and that on the upper deck you can find a quaint bistro. Not as quaint as the one I used to visit with Scotty, though. He was a Canadian but hated cold weather, so when he found a Mediterraneanthemed sim, he practically lived there all the time, eagerly absorbing the warm breeze at La Rose Rouge, an open-air café where we usually met.
The memories started to feel overwhelming, so I decided to move on and explore other areas. As a fan of racing cars, the racetrack area seemed a logical choice. Yes, although I’m not a great driver, I love sitting at the wheel and stepping on the gas, intoxicated by the thrill of the road and the adrenaline of the curves. It was Alex, my first boyfriend in SL, who introduced me to the thrill of car racing by giving me a car that I still have after all these years. Funny story: I never saw him again after that afternoon when he gave me the gift. Come to think of it, maybe that
was the start of a pattern I only recently detected. I decided against visiting the racetrack area, wary of stirring painful memories.
I headed to the mini-golf course, a sport I had never practiced and to which I had no emotional associations attached. The last thing I wanted was to bring back more recollections that could jeopardize my already fragile emotional stability.
There were nine holes in the course, and a cursory examination didn’t reveal that the complexity increased from one to the next, which for me was a relief. I didn’t see any board with instructions, so instinctively clicked the ground and, lo and behold, I got a dialog box offering me a HUD. I accepted it, and a HUD appeared on my screen. Acting again on instinct, I clicked the ground once more. This time the dialog offered to rez a ball. The HUD provided buttons to set the direction and the strength of the put. And that’s when I noticed: it was a MadPea game, the huge SL gaming empire.
I couldn’t help reminiscing about my time with Leslie, one of the best boyfriends I’ve had. He was a big fan of all things MadPea, and naturally a member of their group, which gave him access to all sorts of fun stuff. One day he told me he had something special for me and, of course, I thought “engagement ring”. Call me old-fashioned, but I never understood why he never popped the question. We lived together, we played together, danced together, and everyone around us thought of us as a couple, as I did myself. Why he didn’t want to make me an honest woman was beyond my understanding. Anyway, the special gift turned out to be a MadPea plush toy. I don’t remember how I managed to hide my disappointment; months later, after he had disappeared without so much as a farewell note, I noticed that the MadPea toy was mysteriously missing from my inventory. I never even bothered to ask for a redelivery.
I decided it was time to go back home. The last few days, I had received invitations to numerous shopping events, collecting an obscene number of landmarks which I wanted to try. That would distract me and enhance my mood. A good shopping spree never fails to mend a broken heart.
I saw Missy again a few days later, and before I could ask her how her date with Robbie had gone, she told me she had some news I wouldn’t believe.
“Did he propose?” I asked eagerly.
She laughed.
“Of course not... on the contrary,” was her enigmatic reply.
What could possibly be the opposite of proposing?
“OK, I’m going to share this, but for your ears only; don’t you ever repeat what I’m going to tell you.”
I promised I wouldn’t say a word, and took out my notepad.
“Robbie told me he had a crazy idea,” she continued. “I asked, ‘What crazy idea?’ and he said, ‘What if I became a girl?’”
I stopped writing, shocked.
“Wow! Stop the presses! What did you say to that?”
“What else could I say?” she answered. “I told him that if that’s what he wanted, it was not a crazy idea.”
“You really think that?”
“At this point, I don’t think anything. I only feel relieved of the need to look after a relationship that was going nowhere.”
I swear, I’ve never seen Missy that lucid. Besides, there was a glow about her, as if her inner peace were shining through.
“Look, I’m done looking for ‘The One,’ with a capital O,” she continued. “Forget the one; give me twos, give me threes, give me someone who makes me laugh, and I won’t ask for more.”
I had to admit she had a point. That was something I had to ruminate about later. At that moment, I was more interested in the fate of Missy’s and Robbie’s relationship.
“What about Robbie, then? Are you breaking up?”
“Breaking up? Girl! What are you talking about? Now she has an empty closet to fill up, and we’ve been ransacking stores like crazy. I can tell you this: a good shopping partner is way better than a so-so boyfriend!”

When entering a command into its powerful database – “List the most beautiful sites in Second Life” — without hesitation ChatGPT responds: “Luane’s Magical World.” We agree.
But don’t take A.I.’s word for it. See for yourself. Prepare to be amazed.
The mystical journey starts with a massive orb/ disk. Walking through the white bright light is an experience similar to that of The Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy gazed at her new world and noted, “We aren’t in Kansas anymore.” Correct. You are in Luane’s Magical World.
On the other side of the light is a walk through shimmering forests, statues of people, and animated animals found only in dreams. A motto of Luane’s Magical World states, “We all have magic inside us.” This is the place to bring it out.
“I have always been drawn to creating dreamy and magical environments,” says LuaneMeo, who with co-creator Gorba McMahon built this cyber wonderland. “Our atmosphere was part of the vision from the start. Over time, the magical element
slowly expanded and eventually became a full area of its own within the sim.”
She adds, “Visitors step into a soft and magical world filled with glowing nature, romantic scenery, dreamy lighting, and peaceful hidden spaces designed for exploration and quiet moments. The sim blends fantasy and serenity together, creating an atmosphere that feels almost like walking through a beautiful dream.”
Part of the fun is the illusion around every corner. Young unicorns play under the careful watch of their mother while winged horses graze before taking flight.
“I wanted to create a place that feels comforting, uplifting, and emotionally peaceful,” LuaneMeo says. “I always loved fantasy worlds, romantic aesthetics, and environments that feel soft and almost ethereal. Creating this sim became a way to express that side of myself creatively.”
She adds, “The world can often feel heavy and stressful, so I wanted to build somewhere people could escape to for a little while— a place where they can breathe, relax, dream, and reconnect with a softer sense of wonder.”
The builder offers an insider’s tip: “My favorite parts are usually the quieter hidden areas— the little pathways and intimate spaces where the lighting changes softly and everything feels especially peaceful and magical. I love the moments where nature, light, and atmosphere come together in a way that makes the sim feel almost weightless and dreamlike.”
Visitors, especially first timers, express a feeling of calmness that transcends from SL to RL. After exploring the sim, some say it feels like stepping into another world entirely. Others are surprised by how immersive and emotional the atmosphere feels here.
Stretched on a day-bed floating on a pond of aquablue water perfectly matching aqua-blue flowers with aqua-blue butterflies fluttering around me, I see their point. The atmosphere is good here.
Frequent visitor Rhonda Creek echoes over visitors, noting that Luane’s Magical World is constantly revolving so one needs to come back often. “It is never static here. There is always something new.”
Luane adds, “I continue adjusting and refining the sim whenever inspiration strikes because I always want it to feel more immersive and closer to the vision I carry in my mind. The latest larger changes and updates were made in April.”
Luane’s Magical World is part of a four-site teleport managed by Luane and the above-mentioned Gorba McMahon.
“Gorba is an invaluable part of the creative process behind Luane’s Magical World,” says Luane.
“While I am the main builder and creator, he has been a trusted collaborator across all of my sim builds, including the Magical World. He contributes countless ideas, thoughtful feedback, detailed adjustments, and creative refinements that help bring each region to life.”
The other three sites are Le Monde Perdu, landscapes according to season; Luane’s Estates, home and parcel rentals; and the Pose Store, couple and single poses.
But a favorite of the four is the one with the cool brilliant white light beckoning one to visit the other side. For on the other side, the enchantment begins. It is the magic that is Luane’s Magical World— and after one visit, it is your world too.

Second Life is a social world, but that doesn’t mean you have to be social all the time. Like real life, it can bring joy, connection, loneliness, and self-reflection. Loneliness is not always about being physically alone. You can feel lonely in a crowded club, or peaceful and connected while exploring a quiet sim. What matters most is the quality of the experience, not the number of people around you.
This is why I value positive solitude. Spending time alone in Second Life can be restorative. It can boost creativity, reduce stress, and create space to reset. It is a reminder that you can feel complete with or without constant company.
If you’ve ever gone looking for solitude in Second Life and still felt oddly perceived—as if the universe had a group chat open—here’s the trick: go where the people aren’t. Hunt down low-traffic or empty sims, ideally ones with just 0–3 avatars lurking around, and aim for the usual peace hotspots: nature sims, art builds, or private parcels. They’re the digital equivalent of a quiet corner table where no one insists on “just one quick question.”
Then lock the door on the rest of the world. Turn on Do Not Disturb so IMs can’t barge in like uninvited roommates. Make your own sanctuary on your home parcel, or better yet, float above the whole mess in a skybox—because sometimes the healthiest boundary is several hundred meters of altitude!! Hide nearby avatars, silence chat popups, and mute any local noise that’s trying to audition for your attention. In SL, real solitude isn’t just about being physically alone; it’s about claiming enough mental space to hear yourself think without the interface shouting over you.
Being alone only feels good when it stops feeling like a waiting room and starts feeling like a choice. That’s the whole trick: positive solitude isn’t about drifting aimlessly like a lost sock in a wind tunnel— it’s about doing things that actually feed you. One great way to start is to explore with intention. Not just wandering, but absorbing. Visit a beautifully designed sim, slow down, and let the environment tell its story. Curiosity can do the heavy lifting here, replacing the need for constant interaction with something quieter, richer, and sometimes very satisfying.
That’s the sweet spot: alone, but not disconnected. You’re not trying to fill silence with noise; you’re letting the silence become interesting. When you approach solitude this way, it stops being empty and starts feeling almost luxurious— like your own private adventure. Try wandering through a sim at a snail’s pace and actually notice the details: the lighting, the textures, or the weirdly charming corners. Or pick up your virtual camera and hunt for the perfect shot, focusing on mood, atmosphere, and that dramatic beam of light that makes everything look like it belongs in an art exhibit.
You can also make the time your own by decorating your home, building a space that feels like you, or blogging and reflecting while in-world. If you’re feeling especially imaginative, create a solo roleplay
or tiny story arc just for yourself. And if your soul is requesting a softer vibe, just sit back, listen to music or ambient sound, and let the quiet do its thing. In other words: solitude can be calm, creative, and even a little glamorous—just don’t overstay long enough for boredom to crash the party.
The secret to building positive solitude in Second Life isn’t to turn into a hermit with excellent WiFi—it’s to start small and be intentional. Give yourself 20–30 minutes alone, pick one activity like exploring, creating, or reflecting, and resist the urge to wander into a chat spiral or social hop-fest. Then log out before boredom starts making dramatic entrance music, or go to that fab party or runway show. The whole point is to teach your brain that being alone can feel calm, not like an empty room with a fancy avatar.
That said, if being alone in SL consistently feels painful, that’s not a personal failure—it’s a clue with decent emotional handwriting. It may mean you’re craving meaningful connection, not just casual company, or that solitude is spotlighting a gap you’ve been trying to out-scroll. And honestly, that’s useful information. You don’t need to stop being social to enjoy Second Life—you just need to reach the point where you can say, “I can log in, be alone, and still feel complete.” Once that clicks, your relationships stop being escape hatches and start being actual choices.
